Introduction
PC: Q3DM0
DC: Training Only
Key Items:
Shotgun
Plasma Gun
Armor

This small map is just here to give you a feel for the basics of Q3A. Crash, the bot for this
level, is generally kind, even on the hardest of settings so you shouldn't have any
problems.

Grab the Armor before you warp into the main area. From the warp you can turn right
and grab another Armor, go through the door to nab the Shotgun, or swing left for the
Plasma Gun.

Overall the Plasma Gun is probably the best overall choice for this map; the tight
hallways lend well for splash damage.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arena Gate
PC: Q3DM1
DC:
Key Items:
Rocket Launcher
Plasma Gun
Shotgun
Heavy Armor

This map can turn insane with more than two players in it at once. The Heavy Armor is
the most important item in this map and the Rocket Launch is the ideal weapon. The
Rocket Launcher beats out the other guns in this map since the area is open with few
places to avoid rocket blasts.

The bot here, Ranger, has poor aim even on the higher settings, but he is pretty skilled at
evasion. If you're going toe to toe with the Range in the single player mode stick to
hoarding the Heavy Armor and mowing him down with the Plasma Gun.

If you are in a server that uses this map for Free-For-All (FFA) you're going to rely on
fragging freshly spawned targets. There are only a handful of spawn points on the map,
either near the Rocket Launcher or near the Plasma Gun and Heavy Armor.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

House of Pain
PC: Q3DM2
DC:
Key Items:
Rocket Launcher
Plasma Gun
Shotgun
Armor
Heavy Armor
Haste

This map is well suited for two player games and FFA games with a solid array of
weapons and armor. The Rocket Launcher is the most dominant weapon, but this map is
tight enough to give the Shotgun some respect.

The bot here, Phobos, has a pretty solid game, it's wise enough to hoard armor but it
seems to prefer the Plasma Gun to the Rocket Launcher most of the time. Phobos is fairly
versatile so expect an assault from any location on the map with just about any weapon.

Controlling this map is all about controlling the Armor and the Heavy Armor - keep the
armor spawn cycles (about 25 seconds) always in mind and keep your opponent off these
bad boys! The player that controls the armor controls this map.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arena of Death
PC: Q3DM3
DC:
Key Items:
Grenade Launcher
Rocket Launcher
Plasma Gun
Rocket Launcher
Heavy Armor

This square arena is both easy to learn and master. Like all the maps in Q3A, the Rocket
Launcher is king, but this map balances this by spawning it and the Plasma Gun in the
same location randomly. Given this, it is hard to dominate the Rocket Launcher, so keep
yourself versatile at all times. The Grenade Launcher is tucked away across from the
Rocket Launcher; if you're skilled with this weapon you can score a few kills with it, but
overall it should be a last resort. You get to the Heavy Armor from the second level; just
cut across through the middle and you'll see it tucked away.

Obb and Mynx are the bots here. Of the two, Obb is consistently stronger while Mynx
tends to be rocket fodder. Obb tends to prefer the Rocket Launcher or Plasma Gun while
Mynx leans on the Shotgun. Obb's smaller size tends to make nailing it a little hard but
Obb also makes a lot more noise than the standard character so you should be able to
track and anticipate its moves.

This map is another solid one-on-one map that really isn't suited well for FFA games.
The Rocket Launcher is king, but there are no ammo packs for it, and combined with its
semi-random re-spawn, you may find yourself relying on the Shotgun and its abundant
ammo supply. The Heavy Armor is the single most important item on this map so any
time you see it grab it immediately - it is even worth the damage of a Rocket Jump to
launch up and seize it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Powerstation 0128
PC: Q3TOURNEY1
DC:
Key Items:
Quad Damage
Regeneration
Rocket Launcher
Shotgun
Armor

This is a fun and solid one-on-one map but isn't really equipped for FFA games. Anytime
the Quad Damage is present in a map it is the single most important item on the map,
hands down. This map spawns the Quad and Reintegration randomly so you can't hoard
just the Quad. The Rocket Launcher is arguably the best weapon in the level, although it
is rather tucked away. So if you predictably chase it down you may become frag bait.
There is only one piece of armor on this map so expect it to become a common
congregation point - expect to pound this area down frequently.

If you're going the single player route you'll engage Sarge here. Sarge is pretty well
rounded but this map prevents him from covering everything at once. Sarge is also prone
to dive for the Rocket Launcher so expect to slam him in that closed space frequently.

This level is going to be a test of your intelligence against a skilled opponent; the map is
small enough that if your actions are discernable you will be cut down consistently. The
Quad is your first goal, from the start of the game it will spawn once every two minutes,
controlling it is the only way to control the map.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Place of Many Deaths
PC: Q3DM4
DC:
Key Items:
Quad Damage
Shotgun
Rocket Launcher
Plasma Gun
Red Armor

This map earns this name for a reason; its tight spacing, Quad brutality, and strong
weapons will make it nearly impossible to dominate. If you're playing a FFA game here
don't worry about your own deaths, just try to secure the Rocket Launcher and the Quad
as often as possible. This is a map that will also demonstrate the strength of the Plasma
Gun when combined with the Quad, the more populace the map the more likely you'll be
to mow a stream of players with the combination. The Heavy Armor is at the base of the
tentacles while the Rocket Launcher is at the top of the staircase near the tentacles. Once
you nab the Rocket Launcher drop down to secure some rocket ammo and potentially the
Quad.

Obb, Bitterman, and Grunt are your bots here, four players is almost too many for this
map so expect a bloodbath. The bots aren't prone to take the time to climb the stairs to
the Rocket Launcher, keep this in mind and try to control it. Typically these bots will
favor the Shotgun, and while the Shotgun is well suited for this map well aimed rockets
should bring these guys down.

With the Quad present, controlling it and knowing its spawn cycles is imperative to
dominating this map. Human opponent's are going to be every bit as greedy when it
comes to the Rocket Launcher so you may need to fall back on the Plasma Gun and or the
Shotgun to score some frags. The warp on this level warps to an area that people tend to
flock to, keep this in mind and jump through with full health and rockets ready, you may
not only score a harsh sneak attack, there may be a Telefrag available as well!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Forgotten Place
PC: Q3DM5
DC:
Key Items:
Rocket Launcher
Plasma Gun
Shotgun
Grenade Launcher
Heavy Armor
Armor

This map is a little unbalanced for one on one play, the armor is simply too easy to
dominate. The Armor is located between the Rocket Launcher and the Plasma Gun, you
can collect it and then go up the stairs and along the path to gather the Heavy Armor.
That path is rather inefficient, just grab the Rocket Launcher, Rocket Jump to the Heavy
Armor, and then b-line it to the Armor and you've successfully hoarded all the armor in
the least amount of time and swiped up the invaluable Rocket Launcher. This level has a
lot of twists so it is possible to ditch rocket freaks and cover your tail in the process.

Daemia and Hossman are the bots that frequent this map in the single player game. Of the
two Daemia is the serious contender, on the harder settings she may frag Hossman so fast
you never even get a chance to hit the frag limit! There are no power-ups on this map so
dominating the armor while balancing your offense is the easiest way to own the bots.

Since this map is well suited for FFA games you should learn a fast route to control the
armor. The armor items are fairly centralized so you'll see a lot of player congregating to
these areas, pound these areas and the rocket den with rockets constantly. Also never be
afraid to Rocket Jump to the Heavy Armor, this gem is the most important item on the
map.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Camping Grounds
PC: Q3DM6
DC:
Key Items:
Quad Damage
Mega Health
Personal Teleporter
Heavy Armor
Armor
Rocket Launcher
Railgun
Shotgun
Plasma Gun

The designers obviously knew players would camp on this map thus the cute name, The
Camping Grounds. If you're not fluent in Quake slang, "camping" is essentially the
"turtling" of the FPS world. If you're "camping" you're typically staying in a single area
either sniping it because frags are easy or waiting for a key item to re-spawn. In this case
the Quad is the central point on map and is fairly easy to camp around with either the
Railgun or the Rocket Launcher. The Rocket Launcher is located right above the Quad
area, just take the bounce pad up and score the big boy. Rocket ammo is pretty abundant
so you should make this or the Railgun your weapon of choice. The Railgun is tucked
away along the edge of the map; you can nab it by springing off the bounce pad. As
stated before the Plasma Gun is the ideal Quad weapon, it's outside of the hallway near
the Heavy Armor and Mega Health. The Heavy Armor and Mega Health are almost on
top of each other at the towers, you can bounce up or walk around for the Rocket
Launcher to get here. The Heavy Armor/Mega Health point is a key location on this map;
you have the two most important defensive items easily accessible along with a Personal
Teleporter, to sum this spot up in a single word, loot! The Armor is between the main
staircase near the Shotgun.

Since this map is a great wide-open FFA map you will fight a horde of bots here, Orbb,
Hossman, Daemia, Bitterman, and Grunt all join the fray. Hossman's Plasma Gun tactics
tend to help him gun down the bots the most so he will typically lead the pack. Don't
worry about the current frag totals of the bots, concentrate everything on camping the
Quad, Quad combined with the Plasma Gun will mow down the field and put you easily
on top. The bots tend to flock near the lower levels so when you're bearing the Quad drop
down and give them some sweet loving!

Human opponents are going to be a lot tougher than the bots here; they too will camp the
Quad so expect a bloodbath in that area. Your best bet to nab the Quad is to grab any
defensive items you can, hoard the Rocket Launcher and pound anyone that comes into
the Quad pit with rockets from above. Ideally you want to hover on the level just above
the Quad, once you grab the Rocket Launcher drop down and air control yourself in.
When you camp this area you also have a near unlimited supply of rockets, each time you
run low bounce back up and refill. Players with sharp aim will find that this level suits the
Railgun well, it is open enough to run the gambit with sniping and tight enough to keep
erratic motions to a minimum.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Proving Grounds
PC: Q3TOURNEY2
DC:
Key Items:
Rocket Launcher
Lightning Gun
Shotgun
Armor

This is a strict one on one map in most players' opinions, it is just too small and too
massive FFA games, though smaller FFA games could be conceivable. This map is tight
enough that both the Rocket Launcher and the Lightning Gun can be viable and deadly
weapons. The key to dominating this map is controlling the two units of Armor, both near
warp gates. You can effectively duck between the gates and nab both of them at a steady
rate to push yourself to 200 points of armor.

The bot here, Hunter is going to show you just how effective precision aim and the
Lightning Gun can be. The Lightning Gun's rarity makes it a slightly underrated gun, if
you fight Hunter on a higher setting you'll see just how much respect this gun deserves.
The key to beating Hunter is dominating the armor, keep going through the warps to
collect it as often as possible. You're not going to keep Hunter off the Lightning Gun no
matter how hard you try so don't bother, stay focused on the armor and pound her with
the gun of your choice.

Few human players will be as adept with the Lightning Gun as our lady Hunter is so
you'll see more Rocket lovers here than anything else. Aside from that, treat humans like
you would treat the bot.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Temple of Retribution
PC: Q3DM7
DC:
Key Items:
Quad Damage
Mega Health
Personal Teleporter
Heavy Armor
Armor
Rocket Launcher
Railgun
Shotgun
Plasma Gun

With a moderate stock of armaments this map is well designed for FFA games. This level
is large enough that you should be able to easily hide from a Quad empowered player but
keep in mind that its dominance is always key to controlling a map, the Quad is located at
the end of the gargoyle statues near the Railgun. The open area near the Quad makes it
slightly harder to camp, hang around too often and you may become Railgun bait. In the
pit of lava below the Quad and the Railgun you'll find a passage to a warp gate, the Mega
Health is behind this gate. Armor is also in abundance here; there are three units of
Armor, one at the base of the lava pit, another near the Rocket Launcher away from the
bridge, and the final one at the top of the bounce pad near the Rocket Launcher by the
bridge. This combined with the Heavy Armor in the pit by the Rocket Launcher at the
bridge makes it impossible to hoard armor here. To get in this pit press the button at the
top of the bridge, once down there you can score a lot of health and ammo! There are two
Rocket Launchers here as well, the first is at the top of the bridge and the second is in the
area near the exit of the Heavy Armor pit. The Railgun is before the bounce pad leading
the Quad. The Plasma Gun can be found after you pop through the warp gate, hang on to
this bad boy and get slaughter happy with it once you nab the Quad. The Shotgun is with
the Armor on top of the bounce pad near the bridge. All in all this is a well-equipped map
with tons of defense and offense generating items.

In the single player game you'll fight a collection of fierce bots, Daemia, Wrack, Grunt,
and Slash compose the bot horde. Typically the ladies will dominate but Grunt does
climb up there as well. Against the bots you have one strong advantage, they lack the
brains to open the pit that leads to the Heavy Armor, so you should be able to keep the
Heavy Armor on your side perpetually. The bots tend to swarm near the Quad and near
the Rocket Launcher at the Heavy Armor pit exit. Blanket these areas with rockets and
plasma to beat this posse down.

Human opponents will get the Heavy Armor and any other item they can put their paws
on, do your utmost to keep the armor flowing with you. Despite its visibility human
players tend to overlook the Mega Health behind the warp, keep this in mind and frequent
this area. Typically human players will flock to the Rocket Launchers and armor items
throughout the level, keep this in mind and centralize yourself at the Quad as often as
possible. Any level with the Quad present requires its application for control of the level.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hell's Gate
PC: Q3TOURNEY3
DC:
Key Items:
Battle Suit
Heavy Armor
Armor
Rocket Launcher
Railgun
Plasma Gun
With more than three players here this map gets a little insane so it is clearly reserved for
one on one matches. Armor hoarding is imperative at this map; you can effectively nab
one of the armor units, race to the next, grab it, and then rinse and repeat. The Heavy
Armor is in the pit near the Railgun, while the Armor is across from it in the pit near the
Plasma Gun. The Railgun is out in the open near the top of the level. The Rocket
Launcher is tucked away across from the Railgun. The Plasma Guns are below the
Rocket Launcher on both sides. The Battle Suit spawns in the center of this arena, but
controlling it is hardly key to winning this map.

The bot here, Klesk, will fall on any difficulty setting as long as you continually
dominate the armor. Focus on going from one unit of armor to the next while engaging
Klesk in between.

The same tactic applies to human opponents, realistically no matter how good you are it
is a serious challenge to beat someone with 200 points of armor while you have none,
you need to control the armor to control this map. Hopefully you've been more than just
a Rocket Launcher freak up to this point; the Railgun is the dominant tool here. This map
is open so you won't need to worry about constrained areas forcing splash damage on
you, stay away from your opponent and pick them off with rails.

Lost World
PC: Q3DM13
DC:
Key Items:
Quad Damage
Mega Health
Med Kit
Heavy Armor
Armor
Rocket Launcher
Grenade Launcher
Lightning Gun
Shotgun

This map is well suited for smaller FFA games with the Rocket Launcher on the Quad
being the focal points of the map. The Quad can be reached from the bridge in the center
of the map, or you can Rocket Jump to it from a lower level, the Quad will be focal point
of this map, so know its cycles and seize it! You have to drop down to the Mega Health
from the second level, if you use the bounce pad near the Shotgun you can get there
quickly. You can get the Med Kit by walking around from the second level or by using
the bounce pad on the base level, if you use the bounce pad just jump onto the pad and
hold left to land on the platform, doing this will instantly score you the Med Kit. The
Heavy Armor is tucked away in the center of the arena, drop down in the small crevasse
on the second level by the bridge, this is another focal point on this map. If you go from
the bridge to nab the Rocket Launcher and then drop down and grab the Quad, you can
sing over and drop down and get the Heavy Armor as well. Once you do that, jump
through the warp and head straight down the hall to grab the Armor on the second level.
The Rocket Launcher sits centered on the bridge on the upper level, it will play the
dominant role here so expect human opponents to seek it out constantly. The Grenade
Launcher sits across from the Med Kit, this level features a lot of vertical game-play
mixed with tight halls so it possible to use the Grenade Launcher effectively. You'll find
the Lightning Gun at the top of the tentacle staircase, despite its strength the Lightning
won't come into play on this level, there are just too many twists and turns to keep it
tracked on an opponent for any duration of time. The spacing of this map provides
cramped corridors that serve the Shotgun well, you will find two Shotguns here, one in
the room with the bounce pad next to the Mega Health and the other at the bottom of the
lava pit.

Visor, Razor, and Stripe are the crazy bot posse that frequents this map. The unusual
placement of the Quad and the Mega Health keep the bots off them so you should be able
to hold these two items constantly. The bots do however hoard the Heavy Armor so you
may not be able to sit on top of it easily. Since the bots congregate in this area, cover it
with Quad rockets to score easy frags. All in all rely on the Quad and the Mega Health to
win this map.

Humans will naturally hoard every item on this map so know your spawn cycles well to
beat them down. Players also tend to camp near the Heavy Armor, they can easily stuff a
rocket in your face each time you drop down so don't even consider jumping in unless
you're well armored and sporting the Quad. You can Rocket Jump into the Heavy Armor
area from the lava pit but over reliance on the element of surprise may not be consistently
effective. Keep in mind that you can use the Grenade Launcher to pry out Heavy Armor
campers. Since the Rocket Launcher and the Quad are accessed from the bridge you'll
find it hard to camp this area; one mistake will drop you into the lava. All in all this is a
very fast paced map, there are a ton of short cuts and power weapons here.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fatal Instinct
PC: Q3TOURNEY5
DC:
Key Items:
Quad Damage
Armor
Rocket Launcher
Plasma Gun
Shotgun

This map is really too small and too basic to really warrant a detailed explanation. The
Rocket Launcher at the center of the map is the focal point here, in terms of both tracking
your opponent to it and getting it yourself. The Quad is at the end of the upper path, but
with the poor visibility at this map it is pretty easy to hide from a Quad powered player.
The Armor is on the base level close to the Quad, you start this map with 50 points of
armor automatically so this Armor will put you at 100. Both the Plasma Gun and the
Shotgun can be found be trailing around the outer rim of the arena. If you have great
reflexes the Shotgun can be strong here, the poor visibility will force players to fight in
the Shotgun's ideal range. The Plasma Gun isn't a serious weapon here, but anytime this
weapon and the Quad are present you know you're really for a fragging spree.

Uriel will be your opponent in the single player game. Uriel tends to favor the Rocket
Launcher and will predictably head there consistently. Uriel is adept with the Rocket
Launcher and is also adept at jumping over incoming rockets, this demonstrates a vital
skill any high level player should strive for. To defeat this you'll need to predict his
landing point and put a rocket there in anticipation, yet another vital high level skill. Uriel
is one of the few bots that will Rocket Jump, but he still doesn't seem interested in the
Quad, know the Quad spawn cycle and use it well.

Aside from blatant Quad lust, humans won't be too different from Uriel. This map
teaches you one of the most vital tracking elements in Q3A, sound based tracking. With
poor visibility you'll need to understand the sounds your opponent make when they move
around and interact with the world, knowing this and controlling your own sounds is vital
to controlling the map. You should have the run/walk toggle available at all times, when
running your movements are very audible, however when walking or crouch walking
your make far less noise. Keep in mind that weapon fire can also make noise, if you have
a moderate stock of rocket ammo consider randomly blasting them across the map, an
opponent reliant on sound tracking may lose their fix on you by doing this.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Bouncy Map
PC: Q3DM16
DC:
Key Items:
Heavy Armor
Armor
Railgun
Rocket Launcher
Shotgun
Plasma Gun

This map is a Railgunners paradise! If you stick to the surface areas and have precision
Railgun aim you should be able to rack up frags and a steady rate, but if your Railgun
aim is a little lacking you may want to fall back on the Rocket Launcher or the Shotgun
to generate your kills. The Heavy Armor is below the Railgun, or you can walk around to
it from the mid level. The Armor is on the opposite side of the map just below the Rocket
Launcher. You can climb the stairs or use the bounce pad at the end of the base level to
grab the Railgun, but both these routes can be deadly if a talented Railgunner is sitting a
top this area. The Shotgun is near the Rocket Launcher, just drop down on the side away
from the Armor. The Plasma Gun is on the surface area just below the Railgun.
The bots here are pretty skilled with the Railgun and you're going to need to be equally
sharp with it or pretty adept with the Rocket Launcher to beat them down on harder
settings. Most of the time the bots are too busy tangoing with each other that they forget
about hoarding the armor, keep this in mind and rely on it to pull ahead. Doom, Cadavre,
and Bones compose the bot posse here, typically Doom's Railgun skills make him the bot
to beat.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Longest Yard
PC: Q3DM17
DC:
Key Items:
Quad Damage
Mega Health
Heavy Armor
Railgun
Rocket Launcher
Shotgun

This level is yet other Railgun paradise well suited for players skilled at railing on the go.
The Quad Damage can be reach from the bounce can facing out into space or by Rocket
Jumping on to the accelerator pad from the upper levels. The Mega Health is reached
from the bounce pad in the center of the bounce pads, reaching out for this item is a tad
risky, you're serious rail bait up there. The Heavy Armor is in the middle of the bridge,
all the warps on this level lead here, but keep in mind that this zone in an easy target for
Railgunners camping on the Railgun platform. The Armor can be reached from the
accelerator pads on the upper level; Railgun campers tend to spend more time covering
the Heavy Armor so you may be able to score the Armor safely. The Railgun is tucked
away on a Platform you can reach via the accelerator pad, it is pretty easy to camp this
spot and snipe players from a distance, but if a player with the Shotgun makes out there
with you you're pretty much dead meat. There are two Rocket Launchers here, both on
the mid level near the warps. There are two Shotguns here; both on the upper levels near
the accelerator pads. Major, Sorlag, and Doom is the bot horde here, over them Major's
skills tend to shine through on the harder settings.

If you make you way out to the Railgun platform you shouldn't have any trouble with the
bots here; they are usually so busy fighting each other that they fall victim to a skilled
Railgunner.

Humans will also fall victim to a skilled Railgunner, but they will certainly find ways to
knock you off the platform so you need to stay moving at all times. If your aim isn't good
enough to rail on the go then stick to the Rocket Launcher and do your utmost to hold the
Quad and the Heavy Armor. Even though this map is fairly open there are areas that the
Railgun cannot hit from the Railgun platform, know these areas well.
