( s1. INTRODUCTION | ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: )
`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~'~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Hello! This is the second FAQ that I am publishing to GameFAQs (and to any
other sites whom have received my permission to use this FAQ). I have been
super enthusiastic about the new Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl games that
were released in Japan recently since the day they came out. I have been
working dilligently on trying to acquire as much information as possible about
the two games, and now, I have decided that it is time to work on writing a
good Walkthrough for the two games.
This task will be a very different one for me, seeing as the games are barely
out in Japan at the time of writing this walkthrough. Please understand that
most all names are going to change when the game hits the USA shores. I have
tried to translating everything to the best of my ability, but unfortunately I
know only limited Japanese, so I cannot guarentee the accuracy of any of my
translations. I will try to spell out the translations of things like Pokemon
and Town Names to help you pronounciate them better (ex., "Sono-oh Town" is
actually "So - no - o - Ta - u - n" in Japanese Katakana, but if I listed it
as "Sonoo Town", English-speakers would pronounce it as "So - New").
All Pokemon names should be the actual English names from now on, however item
names, Town names, move names, and Trainer names are all still just translated
by me. I use my own translations instead of translations provided by other
large sites, so if a move or ability doesn't look familiar to you, it's just a
difference in translation from another site you read it from.
THIS IS NOT A SPOILER-FREE WALKTHROUGH! In fact, this Walkthrough will have as
many spoilers as possible! The game is only out in Japan for the time being,
so in reading this Walkthrough, you're probably spoiling the game for your
country's release of the game anyway. (:
You will not find any pictures (for obvious reasons) or stats on the Pokemon
in this guide.
For pictures of the new Pokemon, you can check out:
http://pokemon.marriland.com/diamond-pearl.php?page=pokepics
Also, since making a text-based Pokedex out of my existing Pokedex just isn't
time-sensible, you can view my D/P Pokedex on my site, at the following page:
http://pokemon.marriland.com/diamond-pearl.php?page=pokedex
I will probably not bother converting the whole Pokedex to text to put into
this Walkthrough. I might someday make a seperate Pokedex FAQ in text-form,
but for now, use that. This is a Walkthrough - not a Pokedex.
Special thanks to pika for allowing use of the sprites for my site.
With that being said, please do enjoy the Walkthrough I have written. I hope
it helps you out through the game, or, if you do not own the game and merely
wish to take a peek at what the game is all about, I hope it gives you a good
idea of what to expect for when it is released in the USA, or wherever you
are from!
Also, please do keep in mind that this guide was written for Pokemon Diamond.
The only real differences that you will find in this guide if you're playing
Pokemon Pearl is that the wild Pokemon in some areas may be different, and
you will catch Palkia instead of Dialga. I will eventually make the guide
fully compatible with Pearl and point out all of the differences, but for now
just bear with me.

( s2. VERSION HISTORY | :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: )
`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~'~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Version 1.30 (3/19/07 - 553KB)
- Replaced ALL of the Pokemon names with their confirmed English names.
- Updated some other names, such as Team Galaxy to Team Galactic, the
Poke Watch to the Poketch, and probably another here and there.
- Corrected Heatran's attack list. It has Scary Face, not Mean Look.
- Made a lot of miscellaneous updates to various sections while I went
through the list.
- Fixed various typoes.
- Added some new questions to the Frequently Asked Questions section.
- Finally added a list of where you can find every single Pokemon for your
Sinnoh Dex! This can be found in section 8.6.! Right now, it just shows
the locations of the Pokemon for Trainers, but I might later extend it
to show where you can actually catch the Pokemon.
- Also added a English / Japanese name conversion section so you can see
both the English and Japanese names for each Pokemon to help avoid some
confusion while you adjust to the English names.
- Changed nearly all of the wild Pokemon encounter tables so they show an
accurate percentage of encounter instead of just an estimated rarity. It
only shows the frequency for encountering Pokemon in the daytime for now,
although future updates should have the other two times as well, in
addition to Surfing encounters and the encounter rates for all three of
the Rods.
Version 1.00 (1/16/07 - 528KB)
- Yes, after over two months, I finally have an update - one that I deem
"completes" the Walkthrough.
- The entire Northeast Island section has been added and covered (sections
6.3.1. to 6.3.11.).
- Updated sections 7.4. (Pokemon Mansion & Proud Garden) and 7.6. (Safari
Zone) to include a little information about there being more Pokemon that
you can catch after obtaining the National Dex. (I still need to add how
to get Rotomu to the Forest Manor section, I know.)
- Added some info on the Pokemon Super Contests.
- Updated the lists of locations and items to reflect the new additions.
- Made a whole ton of assorted other updates over the past two months that
I can't really remember them all.
- DIAMOND AND PEARL WILL BE RELEASED IN THE USA ON APRIL 22nd, 2007!!
- Changed some of the names to reflect the revealed English names.
Professor Nanakamado to Professor Rowan, Futaba Town to Twinleaf Town,
and Perap to Chatot.
- Fixed several typoes (calling Rock Climb "Rock Slide" NUMEROUS times
throughout the walkthrough ... shame on me!)
- Probably other stuff I'm forgetting that you'll just have to hunt down!
Version 0.95 (11/8/06 - 460KB)
- Did some reorganizing of the different sections, now dedicating section
6. to Post-Game, section 7. to Optional Areas, section 8. to Useful
Lists, and the sections afterward have just been post-incremented by 2 to
reflect the new additions.
- Added many of the Post-Game events, covering sections 6.1. to 6.5. and
all subsections, except for 6.3. Still have a lot of Post-Game stuff to
write about, though...
- Most likely going to merge Post-Game and Optional Areas into one section
later on, since several of the Optional Areas are much, much more
interesting after completing the game and unlocking the National Dex,
however they aren't exactly Post-Game because you can access them early
on. Hmm, decisions, decisions...
- Added the Useful Lists section which has an easy to read listing of all
of the Held Items, Key Items, TMs/HMs, Poketch Applications, and
important places and people. Hopefully this will help answer everyone's
questions before they are asked, plus it saves you the time of having to
wade through the Walkthrough to find what you are looking for.
- Fixed a few typoes here and there.
- I feel so sad only adding .05 to the version number after adding almost
100KB of content. Ugh. I'm going to mark this as "complete" and make it
version 1.00 in the next update, where I cover the northeast island.
Version 0.90 (10/30/06 - 370KB)
- Covered sections 5.9.1. (Route 223) through 5.9.3. (The Pokemon League).
Doesn't seem like a lot, but it really was.
- Also added section 5.9.0. to list all of the optional areas you can
revisit now that you can use Waterfall.
- Added Route 210 to the list of locations that you can visit after you can
use Rock Climb (see section 5.8.0.).
- The Walkthrough now covers from the beginning of the game to the end! Not
going to mark it as complete just yet, though. I'm going to add all of
the Post-Game events first.
- Renamed section 2. to "Version History & Future Updates" so I can put all
of the updates I have planned for this Walkthrough in here as well.
- Added two more credits to section 9.
- Oops, I realized I forgot to update the version number in the last
update, ha ha ha, silly me, I knew that would happen eventually.
Version 0.80 (10/25/06 - 331KB)
- Covered sections 5.8.1. (Mio City) through 5.8.14. (Nagisa Gym). This
took close to forever due to all of the events that happen in this part
of the game.
- Added Cave of Doubt (Secret Area) to the Optional Areas (section 6.8.).
- Added a ASCII-rendition of the World Map to the Translation Guide (in
section 4.).
- Fixed numerous things throughout the Walkthrough based on information
that was either sent in via e-mail or checked on my Pearl version's
playthrough.
- Did some slight graphical updates on the Walkthrough, changing the
section headers and such to a new look.
- Added another site to the list of sites able to use this Walkthrough.
- Ran out of time to add more questions to the Frequently Asked Questions
section of this guide. Oh well, I'll try do that in the next update.
- Added two new bits to the Credits section.
Version 0.70 (10/18/06 - 262KB)
- Covered sections 5.7.1. (Tengan Mountain) through 5.7.6. (Kissaki Gym).
- Renamed "Royal Relic" to "Tengan Mountain" to help avoid confusion and
remain more consistant in the recognized names for things.
- Added Route 211 (West) to section 5.2. as 5.2.13., and reordered Hakutai
Gym as 5.2.14.
- Added a bit about the Ruin Maniac's Grotto in Route 214 (section 5.5.4.).
Version 0.60 (10/17/06 - 238KB)
- Covered sections 5.6.1. (Route 218) through 5.6.3. (Mio Gym).
- Added Steel Island to the Optional Areas (section 6.7.).
- Finally designed an AWESOME logo for the Walkthrough in ASCII! Woohoo!
- Fixed, like, one or two typoes.
Version 0.50 (10/16/06 - 216KB)
- Covered sections 5.5.1. (Nomose City) through 5.5.9. (Yosuga Gym). Also
covered all of the optional things you can do after you can use Surf in
section 5.6.0.
- Added Tatara Ironworks to the Optional Areas (section 6.6.).
- Added the location of some items, as well as Pokemon to catch to older
sections that I missed before.
- Fixed the location of the Move Relearner.
- Fixed a lot of typoes. I am ALWAYS getting Kotobuki and Kurogane City
mixed up. Argh!
- Also added ASCII for the Japanese "Yes" and "No" to the Translation
section.
- Decided to up the version number a whole .2 points instead of .1 due to
the fact that I've gotta be at least half way through, plus a lot of
extra areas are covered. 0.40 just didn't seem to do it justice.
Version 0.30 (10/15/06 - 166KB)
- Covered sections 5.4.1. (Tobari City) through 5.4.5. (Nomose Gym).
- Replaced section 5.A. with 5.4., since that is where you're supposed to
go (as I thought). The Pokemon Mansion and Proud Garden sections have
been moved to the Optional Areas (section 6.4.).
- Added the Zui Ruins, Pokemon Mansion and Proud Garden, and the Safari
Zone to the Optional Areas.
- Included where to get the Raising Checker Poketch Application in the
Zui Town section, as a note. (You get it after hatching 5 Eggs.)
- Fixed a few more typoes.
- Added another Frequently Asked Question.
Version 0.20 (10/11/06 - 147KB)
- Covered sections 5.3.10. (Lost Tower) through 5.3.15. (Tobari Gym).
- I can't believe it took me two days just to get from one town to another.
I guess it makes sense seeing as I'm a total information geek and have to
explore every single area before I progress to the next one. I mean, my
play time was at 27:00+ when I got my third badge, ugh! Enough ranting!
- Fixed Hyouta's gender... Sorry, but he looked like a girl. Now he's just
one of many feminine men in Pokemon... with a hardhat!
- Updated a few things earlier in the FAQ. Also changed 5.3.10. from Zui
Town to the Lost Tower and changed Zui Town to 5.3.11., because you can
go to the Tower that early and you might as well pick up HM04 while you
are in the area rather than forget later.
- Added another question to the Frequently Asked Questions.
Version 0.13 (10/9/06 - 111KB)
- Covered sections 5.3.1 (Hakutai City) through 5.3.9 (Route 209).
- Added the Optional Areas section along with the optional areas "Forest
Manor" and "Cave of Doubt", both of which seem to be optional at this
point.
- Fixed a few minor errors throughout the guide. (I mean, come on, it said
that Version 0.10 was made in 10/4/05, haha! My bad!)
- Added a link to the pictures and Pokedex, since a lot of people want to
see that stuff anyway.
- Added some commonly asked questions to the Frequently Asked Questions
section.
- Allowed two new sites usage of using this FAQ.
Version 0.10 (10/7/06)
- Initial release of the Walkthrough. Setting version # at 0.10 since I am,
by my estimations, roughly 10% through writing the Walkthrough part.
- Only the Walkthrough is available for the time being. Other sections will
follow in later releases.
- Covered sections 5.1.1 (Twinleaf Town) through 5.2.13 (Hakutai City Gym).

( s4. TRANSLATION GUIDE | :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: )
`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~'~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
I am assuming that you already know how to play the Pokemon Games (otherwise,
you probably would not have bought this game), so I am not going to go into
explaining the basic game controls. I will only explain any changes made to
game controls, as well as provide a translation of the main menus you will
need to familliarize yourself with.
A button - No changes; still an "Accept" / "Action" key.
B button - No changes; still a "Cancel" / "Back" key; can also hold it in
to run once you have the Running Shoes.
Y button - Use SET item (instead of Select).
X button - Bring up the Menu (instead of Start).
L button - Change Box to the left in the PC
R button - Change Box to the right in the PC
Also, remember, as a general rules, "YES" will always be on top of any boxes
where there are just two options. It has two Japanese characters in it, while
"NO" has three (the first two characters are identical). Remember that well.
The following is an ASCII representation of YES in Japanese:

it's set to the second option, you will not be able to switch between Pokemon.

button act as the A button).
The second-to-last line is Window Type, which can be set to one of 20
different styles by pressing Left or Right.
And lastly, there's the cancel line, which takes you out of the Settings Menu.

( s5. WALKTHROUGH | :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: )
`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~'~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
____________________________________________________________________________
(_| s5.0.0. Getting Started |________________________________________________)
At the beginning of a new game, you will be greeted by Professor Rowan. He will
then let you ask him questions about the game controls, but since it is all in
Japanese, you will probably just want to select the third option down. If you
do find yourself in one of the first two options, keep in mind that whenever it
shows the red DS symbol inside of the text on-screen, you will need to (or,
often times, simply have the option to) use the touch screen to make a
selection.
He will then explain to you about Pokemon, and will instruct you to open a
Poke Ball. A Poke Ball will appear on the touch screen. Simply touch the
center of it, and a Munchlax will pop out. After putting the Munchlax away,
you will be able to choose whether to play as a Male or Female character. Just
highlight the one you want to play as and press A. It makes no significant
impact on the gameplay and is merely personal preference (to my knowledge).
(For the sake of this Walkthrough, I am going to assume that you are playing
as a Male character.) You will then be prompted to enter a name, which can be
up to 5 letters, symbols, or Japanese Hiragana/Katakana in length.
After entering your name, your "rival" will be shown on screen and you will be
prompted to give him a name as well. Same rules apply, except there are
different default names for him. For the sake of this walkthough, I am going
to refer to him as Rival. Yeah, pretty original nickname for him, huh?
You will then be shrunk into the game, and your journey will begin.

(_| s5.1.1. Twinleaf Town |__________________________________________________)
There will be a news article on TV about a Red Gyarados in some mountain. But
the news article will then end, and you will have control over your character.
Notice the Wii in your room. Game Freak and Nintendo are such teases! Proceed
to head down the stairs where you will be greeted by your Mother. She will
instruct you to go and see Rival. On your way out, she'll say something else.
Leave the house and make your way to the northeastern-most house and Rival
will pop out of the door. He'll start to run off, but must have forgotten
something as he heads back inside. Go in after him, heading up to the second
floor, and he'll leave.
Go north, up to Route 201, and you'll find Rival. He'll mention something
about the Red Gyarados on TV and will follow you. Take him over to the west
(you can't go east yet), in to the forest. If you want to save before picking
your starter Pokemon (for trying to get a certain gender, positive stats,
shiny, etc), do so before entering the forest.
Inside of the forest, by the lake, you will see Professor Rowan and Hikari.
After some dialogue between them, they'll notice the two of you, and will then
leave. However, the Professor forgot his suitcase, as you and Rival quickly
discover. As you approach it, though, you are attacked by some wild Pokemon!
Now is the time that you'll be able to choose your Starting Pokemon, so choose
wisely!
.----------------------------.
| TURTWIG (Turtle) GRASS |
'--.-------------------------`._________________________________
| Turtwig, the Turtle Pokemon, is a pretty solid choice. It |
| has great Defense and Attack, although it is pretty slow. |
| Fortunately, it will be able to take hits throughout the |
| game, which is a good thing. It learns Razor Leaf pretty |
| early on, too, giving it a nice offensive attack. Later |
| on, Turtwig will eventually evolve into Grotle, followed |
| by Torterra, which is Grass / Ground and capable of |
| unleashing Earthquake. |
.----------------------------.__________________________________|
| CHIMCHAR (Monkey) FIRE |
'--.-------------------------`._________________________________
| Chimchar, the Monkey Pokemon, is all about doing damage. |
| It learns a wide variety of various Physical-based attacks |
| and it has the Attack stat to use them fairly well. |
| Although it may have difficulty with the first Gym, it |
| will prove to be a strong fighter during the rest of your |
| journey. When Chimchar evolves into Monferno at Level 14, |
| it will become part Fighting-type as well and will start |
| learning Fighting-type moves to utilize its second type. |
| Its final form, Infernape, is also part Fighting-type, and |
| is also quite fast to boot. |
.----------------------------.__________________________________|
| PIPLUP (Penguin) WATER |
'--.-------------------------`._________________________________
| Piplup, the Penguin Pokemon, is, unfortunately, not that |
| great early on in the game. It doesn't learn any strong |
| moves until Bubblebeam, which is Level 24 at it's second |
| stage. However, its forms have good Special Attack, and |
| its final Evolution, Empoleon, is part Metal-type, making |
| it resistant to most any attacks. |
|____________________________________________________________|
You will have to fight against a Level 2 Starly. Just keep using your
Pokemon's first attack and you will win. Rival will take the Pokemon that you
are weak to.
Afterward, Hikari will return and take back the suitcase. Leave the forest,
and then you and Rival will run into Hikari and the Professor again. He will
mention something about the two Pokemon that are missing, but will then leave
and Hikari will follow. You will then be taken back home, and your Mother will
tell you to go to Masago Town, followed by giving you the Running Shoes. Now
you can hold in B while moving to run, woohoo!

Return to Route 201, although this time you can actually proceed east, through
the tall grass. Do so, and make your way east bound until you get to Masago
Town. I would also recommend fighting 2 or 3 battles to get up to Level 6. If
your HP gets below 10, you should return back to your house and speak with
your Mother to heal your Pokemon.
____________________________________________________________________________
(_| s5.1.3. Masago Town |____________________________________________________)
Upon arriving in Masago Town, Hikari will be waiting for you there, and she
will lead you to the Professor's Lab. Rival will then walk out just then and
will run off. Hikari will take you inside. After a bit of scolding, the
Professor will decide to give you the Pokemon you chose as a Present. You can
then give it a nickname, if you desire. Eventually, he will ask you if you
want to travel throughout Sinnoh and catalog information on the different
Pokemon in it. Say yes, and you will receive the Pokedex. After some more
dialogue, Hikari will receive the remaining starter Pokemon.
Leave the building, and then Hikari will take you around the town, showing you
the different features (such as the Pokemon Center and Poke Mart). She'll then
head north, up to Route 202, and won't let you pass.
Return back to your house and speak with your Mother. She'll heal your
Pokemon, and will then give you the Note. Lots more dialgoue here, followed by
Rival's mother walking in, eventually giving you another key item (Package).
She will tell you to go to Kotobuki City to find Rival or something.

Make your way back to Route 202 where Hikari was, and she'll show you how to
catch Pokemon. After she catches a Bidoof, she will give you 5 Poke Balls. I
would reccommend buying five more, though, just in case, as well as 3 or so
Potions (for when it gets rough).
Whenever you're done catching some Pokemon, continue past where Hikari was and
you'll have to start fighting Trainers along your path. The first one will
only have a Level 5 Starly and is pretty easy. Battle your way through the
other two Trainers, and you will eventually reach Kotobuki City.

When you arrive, Hikari will tell you how many Pokemon you've caught and will
tell you to visit the Trainer School. She says that Rival is there. Then, she
leaves.
The Trainer School is the house right to the left of the Pokemon Center.
Enter, and then talk to Rival. You'll give him the Package and inside it will
be 2 Town Maps. He decides to give you the second one. He then sets his sights
for Kurogane City to go to the Gym there. He'll say some other stuff, and then
leave. While you're in the Pokemon School, you can fight the two Trainers on
the blue carpet if you want some exp.

The Abras both know only Hidden Power and shouldn't be too difficult for any
of your Pokemon at Level 8 or above. You can talk to the boy after battling
both of the two to receive TM10 (Hidden Power).
As you try and go past the School, a man in a suit will approach you and will
tell you that he'll give you a Poketch (short for Poke Watch) if you can bring
him three coupons. He'll also tell you that there are three jesters in town,
and each of them has a coupon.
The jesters are wearing a yellow outfit, with a yellow hat that has two little
white balls on the top of it. Each jester will ask you a trivia question. They
can be found in the following locations:
- Behind the Pokemon Center
- Outside of the Poketch Company (west side of town)
- In front of the TV Station (north side of town)
Answer yes to any of their questions and you'll receive one of three Poketch
Coupons.
Once you have all 3 coupons, return to the man (he will be standing by the
Pokemon Center) and he will give you the Poketch. The Poketch has some pretty
handy features that are covered in the Poketch section of this guide.
You can get the Old Rod right now if you head west past the Poketch Company
and talk to the Fisherman in the building. Answer Yes and he'll give you the
Old Rod, which you can use to catch things like... Magikarp. To fish, just use
the Old Rod near a body of water and wait until a "!" appears over your head.
When the "!" appears, press the A button, and you'll start the battle. You can
try it out by exiting the building onto Route 218, although there really isn't
anything else there other than a dock ... for now.
Anyway, if you want to get in a little extra training, go north of Kotobuki
City to Route 204. Otherwise, now that you have the Poketch, head east to
Route 203.

As you enter Route 203, you'll run into Rival, who will challenge you to a
battle. He will use a L7 Starly and then a L9 of the Pokemon that he started
with. The Starly should be pretty easy, although the Starter can be a bit
more challenging. If you picked Piplup, you're probably not going to be
having a fun time against the Turtwig he will use since it likes to use
Withdraw a lot. A Starly of your own at Level 9 or higher (for Wing Attack)
is a good way to counter that.
After beating him, he will run off toward Kurogane City to try and challenge
the Gym Leader there.
Now, there's quite a few Trainers to fight along the way. They're all pretty
easy, though, but will give some good EXP for your Pokemon, so I would
recommend fighting all that you can, running back to the Pokemon Center in
case you get weak.
Make your way through the Trainers and you'll find a cave entrance. If you
don't have any Water- or Grass-type attacks in your Pokemon Movepool, you
should definitely go back and heal before you enter. I'd recommend doing that
anyway, just to be on the safe side. There be Trainers in the tunnel!

Snag the Defender to the right when you enter, then descend down, deeper into

It's a real pain to catch, so if you intend on catching it, make sure that you
lower its HP to the red zone, and be prepared to throw 10+ Poke Balls at it.
In the second area of the mine, take a left when the path branches and jump
down the ledge. Pick up the Escape Rope, and then fight with the Worker there
if you want to. Keep going and then talk to the guy with the hardhat on.
He'll use Rock Smash on an adjacent rock, and then introduce himself as
Hyouta, the Gym Leader. He'll then invite you to come to the Gym to challenge
him. Woohoo. Pick up the Potion, and then fight against the Worker (optional).

Alright, here it is, the Kurogane City Gym! The Trainers in here all use Rock-
type Pokemon, which is pleasant if you started with Piplup or Turtwig.
However, if Chimchar is your Starting Pokemon, then you might have a bit of
difficulty. Definitely make sure that you train your Chimchar to Level 14 or
higher so it will evolve into Monferno and learn Mach Punch. If you have a
Level 13+ Budew, you will stand a much nicer chance, because its Mega Drain
will do a ton of damage to everything in here. Definitely use one (catch one
if you don't already have it) if you ran into any difficulties in the Mine (or
cannot handle the Trainers in the Gym).
After getting past the two Youngsters, you'll get to go head-to-head against
the Gym Leader that you met in the Mine, Hyouta.

Hyouta starts off by using two Pokemon that you should be somewhat familliar
in fighting by now: Geodude and Onix. The Geodude knows Stealth Rock, although
I don't quite know what it does, because it didn't seem to do anything to me.
Against Geodude, use Bubble (not Metal Claw, if you have it), Razor Leaf, or
Mega Drain. If you have none of those attacks at your disposal, use your
strongest Special-based attacks. Onix comes out next, although fortunately its
stats make it fairly tame. Just give it the same treatment you gave Geodude
and you'll be fine, although avoid using Mach Punch or any other Physical-
based attack here, because Onix has ridiculously high Defense (Razor Leaf will
still cut it, though). Lastly, Hyouta brings out his Cranidos, which is like
a Rock dinosaur thingy. Be careful, because this thing has INSANELY high
attack (at least 40) and is capable of doing a lot of damage with its Headbutt
attack. Take it out with Mega Drain, Razor Leaf, Metal Claw (or Bubble, if
your Piplup hasn't evolved yet), or Mach Punch. Those attacks will do the
most damage to it.
After your victory, he will give you the Coal Badge, which will allow you to
use Rock Smash (remember that?) outside of battle, and TM76, which contains
Stealth Rock.
Heal up at the Pokemon Center, save your game, and then head back to the
Kurogane Gate. Rival will bump into you and tell you that the next Gym in in
Hakutai City. The path to Hakutai City from Route 207 had an earthquake or
something, so it's impossible to take that route, but you can take the path
from Kotobuki City to get there instead.
So, looks like it's time to go back to Kotobuki City!
DETOUR ALERT: You can take a quick detour to Route 207 to the north of
Kurogane City to find two Poke Balls and catch a Machop. (See section 5.2.1.)
On your way through the Gate, you can take the north path and use Rock Smash
to find a basement area with two items (TM70, which contains Flash, and
Stardust, which you can sell for cash). You can do more here later on, so keep
that in mind.

This is your first Double Battle, although it's really easy. For those of you
that are unfamiliar with Double Battling, you basically just get to select
which Pokemon you're attacking now, and there are two Pokemon on each side of
the field. Fortunately, Hikari's Pokemon is way stronger than either of the
Team Galactic Grunts, plus you still have your Pokemon, so these two should be
a piece of cake.
After the battle, they'll run off. Apparently they were talking to the
Professor about Energy sources. After some more dialogue, the two will leave,
but you'll then be approached by another man who tells you that the TV Station
is now open and will give you an Accessory Container. You can collect little
accessories that you can use to dress up your Pokemon with inside of the TV
Station. You can then display them in a gallery. It's actually a pretty fun,
albeit pointless, minigame.
Before leaving, you might as well check out the TV Station. Inside, you will
find an old cameo from R/S/E: Gabby and Ty. If you talk to Gabby, she'll ask
if you want to battle to show off your skills, and if you say yes, you'll
enter a Double Battle. Be careful: they're strong!

attack that can become a problem if you don't KO it right away. Definitely
focus your attacks on only one Pokemon at a time to make the fight easier in
the long run. After winning, you'll get a TON of money.
You can find the Dress Up Room on the 2nd Floor. It's in the room in the wall
(by the stairs). Before entering, though, talk to the man in the hall to
receive a Mask of your Starter for your Accessories. Now you can go into the
room, and just talk to the guy guarding the door and answer "Yes" three times
until you get to choose one of your Pokemon. Choose one, and then dress it up!
After dressing it up, you will need to give it a title.
On the 3rd Floor, you can find a whole ton of Records and stuff. The 4th Floor
has absolutely nothing of interest, so don't even bother.
Whenever you're done dressing up your Pokemon and whatnot, head back to where
you encountered the Team Galactic dudes and head northbound back to Route 204

I'm not going to list any of the Berries you get in this walkthrough. Just
pick 'em and go, ok?
There's not a whole ton to do in this town right now, but there are some items
you can pick up. For starters, go inside of the red house that's directly
north of the entrance to town and talk to the girl inside. Answer Yes to her
question, and she will give you TM88 (Pick At).
Inside of the Flower Shop, talk to the lady on the left to receive the Psyduck
Pail, which you can use to water Berries to make them produce more when you
pick them. If you talk to the lady on the right, she will give you a random
berry (once per day, I believe). Lastly, talking to the blonde-haired lady
will let you purchase accessories for your Pokemon for Dress Up. Hehe.
However, you need a certain currency in order to purchase any of the
accessories.

When you enter, this one chick, Momi, will say something about Team Galactic
and then will join your party. Yep, every encounter in this forest will be a
Double Battle. She uses a Level 15 Chansey that knows Egg Bomb and Softboiled.
Egg Bomb does a surprisingly high amount of damage, actually. Anyway, how wild
Double Battles work is you can only catch throw a Poke Ball when there is one
Pokemon left. Chansey can unfortunately make this a bit of a burden, because
it will often times Egg Bomb the wrong Pokemon and use Softboiled even if it
doesn't really need to.
One interesting point is that you will be fully healed after every single
battle while Momi is with you, which makes Training here pretty cool,
actually. And, Chansey doesn't seem to leech any of the EXP you get from
fights.
This place is actually somewhat of a maze, so I'll help with directions. Start
by going east, then north, battling the Bug Catcher and Miniskirt. Keep going
along the path, until you find two Psychics. They both have Abras with Hidden
Power, but they're pretty easy. Then, keep going south until you see two Bug
Catchers. If you want the EXP, fight 'em the go north at the next branch;
otherwise, go north and take the first right. Then, go north through the
Psychics if you want to fight them, or west if you would rather not. Either
way, make your way to the northeastern area of the forest, then go north. Now
head west, a bit more north (some Sweet Honey is west, though), then east and
Momi will thank you for taking her out of the forest and leave. Too bad.

Ah, finally, the city of your Second Gym Battle. Before you rush to the Gym,
you might want to take some time to check the town out, because there's a bit
to do here.
You can change your Pokemon's Nickname by talking to the old man inside of the
tall building next to the Poke Mart (southern side of town).
You can also pick up the Examination Set by talking to the old man in the
building to the right of the Pokemon Center. You can use this to dig into the
ground (outside, of course) and play some weird mining mini-game. Apparently
the mini-game is Wi-Fi Enabled, although I haven't had ample time to really
experiment with this.
If you explore the northern area of town, a gothic-looking chick will stop you
and notice your Pokedex. She'll ask you if Professor Rowan gave it to you.
Apparently her name is Shirona. She says some other stuff too, but eventually
gives you HM01 (Cut). You can't use this yet, though; you have to beat the
Hakutai City Gym Leader first.
Further along that path, you'll find a shop that sells those really cruddy
Energy/Herb items that decrease the Happiness of your Pokemon. There's also a
statue of Dialga (or Palkia if you're playing Pearl).
If you keep going, you'll eventually stumble upon a Route with some Trainers
and a cave and an item, which is covered in section 5.2.14.

Talk to Natane, the Gym Leader standing by the door, and she'll tell you that
you have to take her challenge before battling her, which consists of finding
four Trainers.
The first Trainer, Lisa, is located by the Leader Area (north of start). You
can find her in the first branch to the left, then moving south a little bit.
The second one, Manae, can be found by making your way down the left-most
corridor, at the dead-end.
The third, Yukino, is hiding behind the three small trees near the entrance to
the room.
And lastly, Youko, the final Trainer, is in the very northeastern-most corner,
which is accessable by taking the first right from the entrance all the way to
the end.
After defeating all four of them, Natane will appear in the northern area of
the room. Heal up, save your game, and get ready to earn your second Gym

Cherubi is pretty easy. You should be able to take it out with little

Roseraid is quite tricky to beat, though, because it's both strong and at a
high level. I had my Onix use Screech against it until it was Knocked Out with
Magical Leaf (and the Reflect wore off). Roserade likes to start out by
Paralyzing things with Stun Spore, so watch out and administer Parlyz Heals or
Cheri Berries as required.
After beating her, you will receive the Forest Badge, which lets you use Cut

On your way through the building, if you have seen at least 35 Pokemon, talk
to the scientist guy and he will give you the EXP. Share. This is a very
helpful item for raising new Pokemon, because you can even train weaker
Pokemon without fear of them getting Knocked Out or without having to switch
your Active Pokemon every fight.
There are a ton of Trainers down Cycling Road, which you must use a Bicycle to
ride down. They use a variety of types, so just kind of use whatever works
well on them. You'll get a good amount of money, as well as EXP, for beating
all of them, so I would definitely do so.
Eventually, you'll reach the bottom of Cycling Road. You can talk to the
blonde-hair girl in the station to receive a Flag for your Accessory Case (can
be used for Dress Up), but I'm pretty sure only after you've beaten all of the
Trainers on Cycling Road.
Route 206 is right outside of the building.

head south if you don't mind missing out on a chance to catch some new
Pokemon.
In the area, you can find several Pokemon that you haven't seen before (or, at
the very least, haven't encountered in the wild). Bronzor is a pretty hard-
to-find Pokemon, but makes a great tank. Ponyta is also a really good Fire-
type Pokemon, and if you started with either Piplup or Turtwig, you will
probably feel lacking in the Fire department (no joke there). You can also
pick up the Poison Barb to help boost the power of your Pokemon's Poison-type
attacks.
Near the back of Route 206, you'll find a cave. The cave is called the Cave of
Doubt, and unless you're feeling like exploring a frustrating dungeon maze
without too great of a reward, I'd advise staying away from it. If you are
really feeling up to it, please see Section 7.2. about the Cave of Doubt. On
the bright side, you can stop inside to have a better chance of finding a
Domirror, in case you were looking for one.
Whenever you're done in Route 207, just return to the exit of Cycling Road,
take a few steps south, and you're already in Route 207.

There really isn't anything much to do here for the time being, although after

On the other side of Tengan Mountain, Route 208, there are some more Trainers
for you to fight, and three of their Pokemon should be entirely new sights to
see (Combee, Mime Jr., and Bonsly), so you will probably want to fight the
said Trainers to add them to your Pokedex. You can pick up an X Speed by
taking the first bridge north, after fighting Black Belt Gouta. You can also
pick up a Poke Ball if you have a Pokemon with Rock Smash on you after
crossing the second bridge to the east.
After crossing the bridges, you'll reach some tall grass with some more
Trainers in it. You can catch Psyducks and Bibarels, which are the evolution
of Bidoofs, here. You can also talk to the Black Belt in the southeast corner
of the tall grass to receive the Keystone.
There's also a house in the area, by a patch of berries. Inside of the house,
you can talk to the Old Man to receive a berry (I got a Sitrus Berry; it might
be random, though). If you talk to the little girl and say Yes to the question
she asks, she'll give you a new Poketch Application, the Berry Searcher. The
Berry Searcher will show you a mini map of Sinnoh and will point out any berry
patches with berries in them. The lady in the house will also sell you
different kinds of soil that apparently helps with growing berries. Not quite
sure exactly how, though.
After you're done here, make your way through the building to the east and
enter Yosuga City.

As you enter town, a Buneary will run right at you and its Trainer will chase
after it. She'll apologize, and put the Buneary back in its Poke Ball, then
leave.
Yosuga City is a pretty large city. It's all about Pokemon Contests, and all
of the inhabitants are crazy over them. Some of them have even traveled from
Hoenn to participate in the Contests!
Inside of the Pokemon Fan Club, which is located directly to the east of the
Poke Mart (it has a red roof), are some Pokemon fanatics. Talk to the
President (the guy in the suit) and you'll receive the Pofin Case, which
allows you to make Pofins (Bread made from berries; think Poke Blocks from
R/S/E). You can find the Pofin House in the house adjacent to the Poke Mart.
This is where you go to make Pofins. Unfortunately, I do not have any
information on the minigame, so you're on your own there for the time being.
Enter the building next to the Pokemon Fan Club and go up the elevator. Talk
to the girl up there, and she will give you the Shell Bell, a very useful Hold
Item which restores your Pokemon's HP whenever it damages a Pokemon. Very
helpful.
Another noteworthy mention is Mizuki, the Bill/Lanette of Diamond and Pearl.
You can find her in the house to the right of the Pokemon Center. She doesn't
really give you anything after talking to her, but when accessing the PC, the
Pokemon Box system will now show up as "Mizuki's PC".
Talk to the person with purple hair standing outside of the Contest Hall. She
will introduce herself as the Yosuga City Gym Leader, Melissa. However, she'll
just leave, and won't even return to the Gym for now.
Enter the Contest Hall, and you'll see your Mother and your Sister. They will
give you the Glitter Powder Accessory. Your Sister will then leave toward the
waiting room, and then your Mother will leave out the entrance.
You can try out a whole ton of fun Contest stuff if you want to at this point.
There's a lot more you can do with contests, but that won't be covered until a
later update in the walkthough.
As you try to leave Yosuga City, Rival will appear and will challange you to a
battle.

Looks like he's caught a few more Pokemon. Fortunately, you should have a
pretty fair team of Pokemon yourself now, so you should be able to handle
whatever he throws at you.
After beating him, he'll tell you about the next Gym, which is in Tobari City,
and will then run off.
On your way out of town (to the east), talk to the Hiker guy, and if you have
room in your Party, he will give you an Egg. Eggs hatch into a Level 1 Pokemon
after a certain number of steps. This one in particular will hatch into a
Happiny Egg after 10,420 steps, so you might want to carry it with you if you
have room for it. Happiny will eventually evolve into Chansey.
Before leaving east, you might want to check out the Contact Plaza to the
north to pick up some useful items.

(_| s5.3.8. Contact Plaza |__________________________________________________)
In the Contact Plaza, you get to spend some quality time with one of the cute
Pokemon in your party. You will need to have one of several "cutesy" Pokemon
such as Pikachu, Clefairy, or Buneary (there are others, too) in order to get
in. The receptionist will hold onto all of your other Pokemon and let that
Pokemon follow you around. You can talk to your Pokemon by facing it and
pressing A, as you would anything else, and there's a chance that it will give
you an Accessory for your Accessory Case.
There are also a few helpful items scattered around the area. You can find
TM45 (Attract) in the northern part of the field, and you can find TM43
(Secret Power) in the southern part. In the northeastern corner, there will be
two stone buildings that you can enter. The one on the left has an Amulet Coin
hidden inside, and you can find a Spectral Plate outside of the building on
the right.
