Introduction
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Having trouble taking on some of the big boss battles in Sonic Heroes? Hey, Sonic
wasn't too embarrassed to ask for help, why should you be?

There are three kinds of bosses in Sonic Heroes"one of Eggman's giant flying vessels,
one of the rival playable teams (Sonic, Rose, Dark, or Chaotix), and battles against
battalions of robots. This guide tells you how to deal with each of the seven bosses if you
play the game as Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles)"but since every other team's
Speed, Fly, and Power member has basically the same powers, you can apply these strategies
to other teams, too.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boss 1: Egg Hawk
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first boss battle is against Eggman's Egg Hawk, a flying machine that you encounter
again later in the game. Tails is your man"er, fox"for most of this battle.

But before Tails can do a thing, you've got to level up your characters if you want to do
any serious damage. Switch to Knuckles, then run down the first straightaway, killing all
the robots in your path using his punch attack (tap the attack button while on the ground)
for level-up power-ups. Don't worry about the bullets from the Egg Hawk, they're super-
easy to avoid.

Once you've reached the first island, switch to Tails and kill all the flying robots by
throwing your friends at them (tap the attack button either on the ground or in the air)
to get more level-up power-ups. Again, don't worry too much about the Egg Hawk or its
attacks, they look worse than they are.

Now switch back to Knuckles and run down the second straightaway. As you did on the
first straightaway, use Knuckles to kill the robots for level-up power-ups. By now, Tails
should have all three levels, and the Egg Hawk should be a cinch to destroy.

Once you've reached the second island, switch back to Tails"it's his time to shine! Have
him kill the green fliers around the perimeter of the island with his throw attack (tap B).

Once they're out of the picture, use his throw attack to knock out the engines and the
gunners. Don't worry too much about aim"if you throw Sonic and/or Knuckles, they'll
auto-target the ship's weak points.

The game will advise that you switch to Sonic or Knuckles to take out the Egg Hawk, but
you can ignore that advice"just stick with Tails and fire away at the Egg Hawk's "head"
If you've leveled up enough, you'll win in just a few hits. But"surprise!"Eggman isn't
defeated just yet"he escapes from the Egg Hawk as it's exploding. C'mon, what did you
expect? That was only the first boss.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boss 2: Team Rose
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now it's time to fight Team Rose! (Or, if you're playing Team Rose, now's when you
fight Team Sonic" you get the idea). This battle is fairly annoying"be prepared to get
hit by lots of stuff you can't really do much to avoid.

Your first goal, once again, should be to level up your characters. Only this time, there
aren't any robots to kill to get level-up power-ups. There are, however, three power-ups
(one for each character) in plain sight. There are three more in the row of crates
(above)" and three more in the row of crates directly opposite.

While you could grab them all methodically, Amy's team will keep knocking you down
if you move too slowly. The best method is to use Sonic's spin dash (tap the attack button
on the ground) in a chaotic matter, darting back and forth across the arena until you
collect them all. Don't worry, you can't fall off the platform; the game won't let you.

After you're completely leveled up, it's time to strike! Switch to Tails, and have him use
his throw attack (tap the attack button either on the ground or in the air) to hurl Sonic
and Knuckles at Team Rose and knock them out of the air.

Once they're down for the count, you can either continuously barrage them using Tails,
or" you can switch to Knuckles and use his Jump Slam attack (jump, then tap the attack
button to throw Tails or Sonic onto the ground) to barrage your downed foes. Either way
should work fine; the Knuckles method is a little bit faster, but not by much.

If at any point you lose a character to Team Rose's wiles (they'll fall off the platform),
you'll be handicapped, but unlike during the levels, it's not over yet. Simply continue on
with the other two characters" or alone, if it comes to that.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boss 3: Robot Carnival
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This battle is simply a series of encounters against different waves of robots that Eggman
summons.

The first robots are hovering robots, which means Tails is the right character to use.
First, have him use his throw attack to knock down the enemies. Unfortunately, he won't be
powerful enough to destroy them all by himself yet. Switch to Knuckles to take them out
while they're on the ground with his Jump Slam (jump, then tap the attack button).

Use a similar strategy for this next wave. Have Tails knock all of the robots out of the sky
with his throw attack, then have Knuckles finish them off on the ground with his Jump
Slam (jump, then tap the attack button).

For the next wave, have Knuckles use his Jump Slam on the silver lance-wielding ground
robots first before trying to take on the fliers. Then use the same method (Tails first, then
Knuckles) to take out the flying robots on the perimeter.

Use Tails exclusively for this next round against the nine flying robots that appear in a
grid pattern. By now, his level should be high enough that the robots explode when hit
instead of just falling to the ground.

Next wave: four shielded robots and four bomb-dropping robots. First, use Knuckles to
take out the shielded silver robots on the ground with the Jump Slam. Normally, Sonic
would have to use his Tornado attack to strip off their shields, but Knuckles should be
powerful enough to break through their defenses by this point in the battle. After this,
switch to Tails to take out the fliers with his throw attack.

Next comes a ring of fliers, tailor made for Tails' throw attack. Just stand in the middle
and take them out in a clockwise fashion. Simple!

The next wave is again made for Tails' throw attack, but be careful"these hovering
robots will capture one of your characters if you get too close. If Tails gets trapped, use
Sonic's jump dash (jump, then press the jump button again) to try to free him.

This next wave of turtles is probably the toughest. Their shells are very difficult to
pierce, even with a fully powered Knuckles. But that's OK"by now, your Team Blast should
by fully charged and ready to use. Unleash it, and all the robots will be toast.

If you didn't save your Team Blast or don't want to use it, use Sonic's Tornado power
(jump, then press the attack button) to flip the turtles on their backs one at a time. Then
switch to Knuckles and use a Jump Slam while they're down. Don't stay in one place too
long, though"the turtles have a yellow energy wave that can be devastating.

Quickly move to the side before this next wave begins"the four flying robots head
directly for the center as soon as they appear. Use Tails' throw attack to take them out.

The next wave is an eclectic mix. First, use Knuckles' Jump Slam to take out the silver
robots on the ground. Then, use Tails' throw attack to take out the flying enemies with
the bombs. Save the turtles for last"use Sonic's Tornado to flip them on their backs and
then barrage them with Knuckles' Jump Slam.

The final wave is a row of shielded robots that doesn't move. While it may look daunting,
there's a trick"just destroy the gold robot on the left side of the line-up, and all the
rest explode, too!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boss 4: Egg Albatross
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remember the Egg Hawk from the first boss battle? Well, it's back"and seriously
rebuilt with a superior outer shell. This one's gonna be a bit tough.

The battle takes place on a large loop with lots of straightaways and grind rails. Your
goal should be to level up as quickly as possible, so just keep moving forward or else
you'll never get enough power. Kill the robots if you like as you advance, but be aware
that most of them don't give you level-up power-ups this time.

This boss has three forms. In the first form, you only really have to worry about dodging
the yellow circular blasts. All the rest of the boss's attacks are easy to dodge"many
seem to just pass right through you.

Keep moving forward until you come to a glowing grind rail. Hit the switch until the Red
Path lights up. Now have your team grind down the red rails.

Use Knuckles to break all the boxes you come across down this path. This is where a
good number of the level-up power-ups for your characters will come from. Keep going
around until Tails is fully powered"he's going to play the biggest role in destroying the
Albatross.

If you loop around the level to the grind rails again, the Blue Path is a good place to pick
up rings, which are always good to have around in case you get hit. There's also a single
level-up power-up for Sonic at the end of the path. Just be sure to jump the laser fences!

Once you're powered up, it's time to strike! Switch to Sonic and use his dash (tap the
attack button repeatedly while on the ground) to catch up to the Egg Albatross.

Now switch to Tails and use his throw attack to hurl your teammates at the Albatross'
cannons. Once the cannons are destroyed, the exterior of the Albatross will start to
explode".

The Albatross' second form is a sort of propeller-driven zeppelin. There are no wings,
just easy-to-avoid side cannons. Again, just have Tails throw Sonic and Knuckles at the
flying machine until it blows up (it shouldn't take more than a few hits in Tails' powered-
up state), revealing its third form"the Egg Hawk! Remember that? Luckily, it's even easier
than last time to defeat the thing. Again, just use Tails' throw attack. A couple hits
is all it should take if it's fully powered!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boss 5: Team Dark
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You fought Team Rose"now it's time to fight Team Dark, the "anti-Sonic" team made
up of Shadow (Speed), Gamma the Robot (Power), and Rouge the Bat (Fly). The battle is
very similar to the one with Team Rose, but you can take out these troublemakers in a
matter of seconds if you know the trick.

Your first goal should be to level up your characters at least once before taking on the
baddies. The easiest way to get a level is to switch to Tails and use his throw attack (tap
the attack button) to pop the balloons floating along the edge of the platform. There's one
level-up power-up in each.

Next, have Knuckles break the crates supporting the columns of blue boxes. Inside one of
the boxes is a helpful shield that can stave off death.

While you could wear down the team similar to how you took out Team Rose, Team
Dark is notably tougher. Instead, try to knock Team Dark off the platform by using
Knuckles when Team Dark is in Power formation. If Team Dark is in Fly formation, just
jump a lot to avoid their attacks and wait for them to land into Power formation.

Once they're grounded, use Knuckles to Jump Slam Team Dark while Gamma the Robot
is taking the lead. If you're lucky, you'll knock the whole team off the edge of the
platform at once, ending the match in seconds. If not, you'll eventually wear them down.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boss 6: Robot Storm
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sequel to Robot Carnival involves 13 waves of much more difficult-to-deal-with
enemies, including those annoying, giant hammer-wielding robots you started to
encounter in the forest stages.

Wave One is a triangle of flying machines. Have Tails knock them down with his throw
attack (he's still too weak to deal damage), then use Knuckles to pound them with Jump
Slams (jump, then press the attack button) while they're down. You should get several
character levels very quickly from this first wave.

Wave Two involves a bunch of red robots. Just use Knuckles and Jump Slam. Easy!
Another group of robots forms in the sky, leading you to believe they're fliers"don't be
fooled. Stay in Power formation, and use Knuckles' trusty Jump Slam to take them out. If
you can hit the gold one, you'll take them out even quicker!

Once you've defeated Wave Three, the cage holding the warp switch opens. Jump on the
warp switch to go to the next platform.

By now, you should have stored up enough energy to perform a Team Blast. Now would
be the perfect time to use it against these annoying and hard-to-kill turtle robots in Wave
Four.

Several red lance-carrying robots fall from the sky in Wave Five"be sure to jump out of
the way because they immediately charge toward you! Once all the 'bots have landed,
use Knuckles and take them out with a barrage of Jump Slams.

Wave Six is just six magician robots with nothing to control. Use Knuckles in the
traditional Jump Slam fashion, and you'll be rid of them in two seconds flat.

Defeating the magicians activates the cannon. Hop in the cannon with Sonic to get to the
next area. If you hop in with Knuckles, you can get some rings, but you'll bounce back to
the same platform again.

In Wave Seven, airplanes drop shielded red lancer robots into the fray. Knuckles should
be able to take care of them. You can use poor, neglected Sonic to get rid of shields with
a Tornado if you like, but it's not really necessary.

Wave Eight involves one giant hammerbot and some shielded robots; this one's a bit
tougher. The easiest way to take them out is to use your Team Blast, which should once
again be fully charged.

If you want to save your Team Blast for the next battle (also quite a toughie), then handle
this wave like this: first use Sonic to strip the small red robots of their shields. Then,
switch to Knuckles to take them out with his Jump Slam. Finally, tackle the Tails' throw
attack to knock him down. Then, use Knuckles' regular punch attack on the hammerbot's
head while he's down.

Ugh! Three hammerbots! If you didn't use your Team Blast in the last battle, now's a
good time (be careful, though, because you may not have enough power to use it in Wave
13, coming up). To beat them the old-fashioned way, constantly use Tails' throw attack
to stun the moving hammerbots. If you happen to knock down a dizzy hammerbot, use
Knuckles' Jump Slam. But remember, keeping the other hammerbots stunned with Tails
is the key to success" so don't rush!

Wave 10 is Space Invaders! And it's Tails all the way this time. Stay as far back as you
can to avoid the nearly endless barrage of gunfire. Use your throw attack to get the lowest
row first, and work your way up. You'll have to fly and use your throw attack to take out
the top row.

Wave 11 involves two gold "trapper" robots and several rail-riders. As soon as this wave
begins"yes, immediately"have Tails use his throw attack to take out the two gold
robots before they trap your characters. After that, it's easy"just use Tails to take out the
green machines riding around on the rails outside the platform. They aren't much of
a threat without the gold robots.

Wave 12 (almost there!) involves a rain of red robots that fall from the sky. You know
the drill by now for these guys"just use Knuckles' Jump Slam attack again.

Now hop in the cannon as Sonic, and you'll shoot off to the final platform. If you hop in
the cannon as Knuckles, you can find a shield power-up to help you.

The final wave of attackers involves a bunch of gold robots with shields and a
hammerbot. This one is easy"just use your Team Blast to blow 'em all to smithereens
without lifting a finger. You win!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boss 7: Egg Emperor
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now it's time for the final battle"the Egg Emperor, a flying gladiatorial robot and a
major pain in the butt. Expect to get hit a lot"and make sure you always grab at least
one ring every time it happens so you can keep on fighting. Hang in there, you've almost
made it!

The fight takes place on a long strip with two "arenas" on either end. The first thing
you've got to remember while on the long strip in between is keep moving. If the
Emperor gets too far ahead of you, he'll do a "charge attack" that's completely
unavoidable.

Leveling up Tails is the important thing, since he'll be dealing out the damage to the
Emperor when the time comes. The first level-up power-up is easy to find"there's one
for each character sitting on the center strip directly in front of you when you start.

When you reach the first ramp, switch to Tails and use his flying power to reach the
balloon floating in the air. Fly into it, and Tails will get a second level-up power-up.

Switch to Knuckles at the end of the center strip and have him punch the star target at the
end of it. This will launch him into the air and give him a power-up, too.

Now you're at the arena"but before attacking the Emperor, you need to get rid of his
defenses. Switch to Sonic in mid-air after nabbing the power-up. Try to guide your
landing a little to the left to avoid the Emperor's yellow wave beams. Move Sonic in
front of the charging red robots and launch a Tornado attack (jump and press the attack
button). If you place the Tornado far enough ahead of the robots, they'll charge into the
funnel and lose their shields.

Now switch to Tails and use your throw attack to take out the robots. If Tails isn't leveled
up enough, you can use Knuckles' Jump Slam as a second resort.

After the robots are taken care of, go after the four turrets surrounding the Emperor"it
will make it much easier to get hits on the Emperor without being bombarded with artillery!
Again, use Tails if he's powered up sufficiently. As a nice bonus, you can find a shield
inside one of the turrets.

Now it's time to strike! Circle the Emperor constantly, and use Tails' throw attack
whenever the Emperor moves his shield out of the way to reveal the jewel on his chest
(that's his "weak point"). The in-game voices advise "getting rid of his shield" first, but
don't worry about doing that. Keep at it until the Emperor flies away from the arena and
back to the strip.

Repeat until vanquished! Follow the Emperor down the center strip"don't bother
attacking him again until you reach the next arena"and do the same thing on the other
side. After three or four showdowns, victory should be yours.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Chaos Emeralds
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can't beat the real final boss (using the combined power of all four teams) until you
do two things: beat the game with all four teams, and find all seven Chaos Emeralds in
the game. So how do you go about finding the emeralds?

First, you need to beat an even-numbered stage while holding a hidden key. There are
three keys scattered throughout each level inside cages that can be broken with your
Power character. If you get hit, you lose the key you were holding.

If you beat the stage with the hidden key, you'll enter a Special Stage. Most special
stages can be beaten if you play as Sonic and use your dash move constantly while
collecting as many balloons as possible to keep your dash meter up. If you "catch up" to
the crystal before it reaches the end of the tunnel, you get the Chaos Emerald.
