Credits -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- What is a Wavedash? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Wavedash-Air-dodging diagonally toward the ground, as close to the ground as possible, will result in a movement that abuses the games physics by allowing a player to make themself slide across the ground. Most obvious with Luigi, Marth, Roy, Mewtwo, and Ice Climbers. You can turn around more quickly by wavedashing in the opposite direction of your run, then picking up on the momentum. (Thanks to the Newbie FAQ for that) Basically it is a move that abuses the physics of the game. It makes it look as if you slide across the ground, when really you are airdodging. It looks like you are sliding, but really it is just using a low angled air-dodge to stop your jump so close to the ground that it is impossible to see. You need fast fingers to wavedash, so those who play fast characters (Falcon, Falco, Fox) may already have the speed to pull one off. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Learning the Art -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Try picking Luigi in training mode, go to Final Destination (or another flat bottomed stage) and set the speed to 2/3 of your normal speed. Before attempting to actually wavedash, jump and Air-Dodge straight down. If done correctly, you will barely be able to see you rise. But if you are reading this you probably wont have the reflexes to do this yet. So practice untill you do the above. Now first off, there are two things that affect your wavedash's speed and length. First is Angle. If you hold the control stick to high your wavedash will either be short and slow or it won't occur at all. If it is low enough you will wavedash niceley. But, if it is to close to the bottom of the Control Pad, it will be a very short wavedash. The Second thing that effects your wavedash is the speed you press the L/R button. If you hit it late your wavedash will not occur or you will see the jump animation. If it is nice and fast you will just see a slide. A slide with the jump animation is still a wavedash, but doesn't provide you with the speed and agility needed to do things with the wavedash. Now that you read that long and boring bit, try jumping and airdodging on an angle, if you are still seeing the jump animation go back and do the straight down jump. If you complete a wavedash, you will know. Luigi slides back very far. If you cannot do that 5 times in a row, try crouching first, then go back to the normal wavedash. If you complete it five times try dashing one way and wavedashing backwards. Also try wavedashing backwards so you hold onto the edge. Congratulations, you learned to Wavedash. But you may still be wavesheilding, (having your sheild come up after). You must trust in your wavedash to be successful when you just tap the L/R button. Try it, and believe. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Uses of the Wavedash -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Mindgames: If the opponent you are playing isnt used to wavedashes, it can really psych them out. Try dashing at the opponent and wavedashing back and then come back for a frontal assault. Use wavedashes as a retreat. Put wavedashes in random spots, it makes you look faster than you actually are. Moving: Wavedashing can work better than some rolls (Like Jigglypuff's, Samus's and Yoshi's.). You can use it to replace short dashes, retreats and it will get you there in less than a second. It is dead useful in almost all situations. Wave-Attacking: Wavedashing can allow you to use any attack during the slide. Which leads to Wave-Smashes, Wave-Tilts and Wave-Neutrals. Maybe even Wave-Specials. Wavesmashes are probably the best, you pull off a wavedash, which psyches them out and then you come in with a big C-Stick attack. It can also be used during juggling combos, to move backwards to where the body is. For Fox and Falco you can Shine-Cancel and Wavedash immediatly after that. Wavesheilding helps to. Wait a second, didn't I tell you to stop the wavesheilding? Well if you do it on purpose to get close without being hit, you should use it often. Wavedashing is one of the top moves to put in combos and attacks, even in defense. Edge-Hogging: Wavedashing backwards onto a ledge works faster than short hopping backwards. It looks better to. Watch out, if you mess up you can end up Air-Dodging off the edge, with no recovery unless you are Samus or Link (using R and A). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Wavedashing Notes -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -Wavedashing with different characters give you different results. Some cannot wavedash at all, some go very far, some go very short. Some characters (such as Bowser) require a little lag before they can Wavedash, because it takes them longer to leave the ground. You actually are leaving the ground, you just can't see it. -If you want to see professionals wavedash, check out www.ssbm.it. Or download DC+++ Hub. -Some Characters can do a "Super Wavedash", which is a wavedash performed by falling, not jumping. -The Debuggers actually found this, but left it in the game for us. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Credits -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- : The Newbie FAQ, for some information : http://www.freewebs.com/xiffer/wavedashing.html for some information : Me for writing this Guide : Hal and Nintendo for making this wonderful game.
