NHLPA 93' Author: DJ Tigresa and MC Pantera Email: djtigresa@classicgaming.com, mcpantera@classicgaming.com The Free Site Introduction ------------------------- Electronic Arts? quest for the perfect hockey game continues with NHLPA Hockey ?93, a brilliant sequel to NHL Hockey. NHLPA ?93 doesn?t have actual NHL teams or logos but it does have actual players: Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Jeremy Roenick, and hundreds more. It also has several game-play improvements over the original: smarter computer opponents, computer-controlled goalies who make spectacular new saves, new defensive moves, player injuries, detailed statistics, and (as the clich? goes) much, much more. Attacking -------------------------- -There were plenty of ways to score against the boneheaded goalies in the original NHL Hockey, but the keepers in the NHLPA are a lot smarter. Here are a few techniques to try against them. -Skate towards the goal and hit a wrist shot to one side of the net. The goalie will (hopefully) deflect the puck. Quickly grab the rebound and pop into the other side of the net before the goalie can react. What?s weird about this technique is that it works for players that have a weak, slow shot-the goalies find it difficult to deal with slow wrists shots, but can block hard slap shots almost every time. -Stop just behind the blue line and hit a wrist shot without aiming it. This chip shot is very difficult for the goalie to defend and he?ll end up deflecting it almost every time, leaving you a perfect opportunity to slam it home. This technique works better when the opponent?s goal is at the top of the rink. -Skate past the blue line slightly to the left of the opponent?s goal. Press up/left for just a moment, then quickly use a slap shot up/right. This technique also works better when the opponent?s goal is at the top of the rink. Defending --------------------------- -Use every method of defense at your command. Holding is a good strategy against a passing team; by holding your man, he might be out of position to receive a pass, allowing your team to steal. Reaching in with your stick is an even better strategy, and you?ll come away with the puck frequently. Checking should be the last technique you use, since you get called more penalties for checking than anything else gets. When you check, hit your target from the front, not from behind, or you may get a Hooking call. Face-offs ----------------------------- -When you win a face-off in the opponent?s blue-line area, quickly hit a slapshot at the far side of the net. You might catch the goalie napping. LOL! Fighting --------------------------- -Fighting was fun, but unimportant, in the original NHL Hockey. In NHLPA ?93, you?ve gotta fight to win, because the loser of the fight sometimes get injured and knocked out of the game. One good fighting method is to stand still and let your opponent skate towards you; whack him with alternating high and low punches. Another method is to stick and move; skate backwards when your opponent takes a swing, then skate forward and clobber him.
