Shamans are the spiritual advisors of the Horde. The shaman is a versatile and
flexible class that fulfills many roles in an adventuring party. While other
classes are pure fighters or spellcasters, the shaman enjoy a happy medium in
between. The shaman is an effective spellcaster, but can also fight extremely
well with mace and staff.

The shaman has good health and melee power, as well as spells designed to
support the shaman in combat, such as instant-cast offensive spells and weapon
buffs. It also has strong attack spells and health.
The shaman's line-of-spirit spells enables it to perform a variety of useful
non-combat actions. It can resurrect allies, turn into a ghost wolf for
increased movement, or instantly teleport to a town.

The shaman's unique power is totems. Totems are spiritual objects that a
shaman must earn through questing. Once earned, a totem enables a shaman to cast
totem spells associated with that totems element. Totem spells can be purchased
from a trainer, although in order to cast a totem spell, the appopriate
elemental totem must be carried in the shaman's inventory.
Casting a totem spells places a temporary ward on the ground that creates a
spell effect in the area. This ward can be attacked be enemies, and the totem
spell ends if the ward is destroyed. Totem spells can provide buffs, debuffs,
healing, and they can attack enemies.
There are four totems. The first you can earn is earth, while the others are
fire, water, and air. A shaman can have one totem from each element in effect at
a time. Casting another totem spell from the same element as an exisiting totem
causes the previous totem to disapppear.
Earth totems tend to be protection spells, such as the stoneclaw totem that
taunts monsters off the shaman, and the stoneskin totem, which reduces melee
damage done by monsters. Fire totems, in contrast, tend to be offensive in
nature, with spells such as searing totem, magam totem, and fire nova totem
dealing damage to nearby enemies. Water and air totems offer several useful and
miscellaneous spells. The mana spring totem (water), for instance, confers a
large mana regeneration boost to the shaman and its allies, while the grounding
totem (air) absorbs harmful spells cast by the enemy spellcasters.

As a Shaman, one must use the powers of nature to aid oneself. This power is
contained in entities called totems and the quests for Shaman allow them to get
totems of the four elements: Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind.

- Techniques -
==============
Depending on how you speced your character, many different tactics can be used
in PvE and PvP. A typical way to initiate PvE is with a lightning bolt and then
a shock spell for quick damage. A stoneskin totem should help you win easily
since it provides a nice cover on damage, just use shocks when you can since
they are instant. A lightning shield adds a few extra hits and could make the
difference in a tougher fight.
If you decide to use a 2-hand weapon, be sure to use windfury, the flurry of
high damage is devistating if it connects. The Frost/Fire brands are good for
a faster weapon since it adds the extra damage to make up for the speed. In the
latter part of the game though, a dagger such as Gift of the Elven Magi with
windfury is devastating since the speed allows windfury to proc a lot.
If you have gone the restorative way and have Nature's Swiftness and the Mana
Tide totem, you can take monsters that are a much higher level then you. Start
off the same, but work a Mana Tide in at 20% mana left and let loose a shock.
If your HP is low use a heal obviously, but a Nature's Swiftness heal is a nice
touch since it's instant and you won't incur damage while waiting for the heal.
The tactic above also works well with PvP, instant heal with Nature's Swiftness
when your low or use it to finish off your opponent with a Chain Lightning. The
finishing blow is best used with a Earth Shock followed by the Chain for a quick
1500+, if you don't get a critical hit that is.
In a party a Shaman should boost the parties defense and provide additions to
attack with Windfury Totem. More melee attackers should result in Healing Stream
Totem and more ranged/mana consuming attackers should use Mana Spring/Tide
Totem. When attacking use Frost Shock or Flame Shock, Earth Shock will pull
mobs off of the tank because it draws a lot hate. Unless you're an off-tank
don't use a shield, get in there and pummel away with a 2-hander to deal the
damage. Most mobs will try to run and get help when they are near death, drop
the Earthbind Totem and a Frost Shock to slow it down a lot so the group doesn't
wipe. Don't forget to back up heal the main assist (person doing most of the
damage) because the healer is focused on healing the tank more then the damage
dealer. It sounds complicated but just check the parties HP every now and then
and use Flame Shock and Frost Shock as much as possible.

reduces the effectiveness of the heal by 80%, and the spell will jump to up
to two additional targets.
