1.) Introduction
===================

Howdy and welcome to my guide for Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia. Ar Tonelico
is a pretty interesting game for a lack of a better word. It's basically an
RPG that has some aspects of a dating sim in it. You'll find out exactly what
I mean by that if you play the game. The same people that made Atelier Iris
also made this game, so the game has a similiar look. I still have a soft spot
for 2D and Turn Based RPGs, and this game caught my interest, so here I am.

===================
3.) Basics
===================

-------------
Battle System
-------------

This game uses a semi turn based style of gameplay. Though it's not in real
time, the game doesn't exactly stay true to the Turn based roots. Instead, at
the top, there's a row of character and enemy portraits with a blue bar next
to them. Once the bar is full, it's that characters turn to act. I find that
it works pretty well in the end.

---------
Songs
---------

This is only used by the Reyvateil in the game. In order to use Songs, you
need to press the Triangle button during a battle and a battle menu will open
up for the Reyvateil you're using. Choose to sing a song and a list of
currently available songs will pop up. Using a song will gradually decrease
the MP of the Reyvateil while it's powering up. Once you either decide to use
the song manually, or once the Reyvateil's MP runs out, the song will end
automatically and their attack will unleash.

---------
Reyvateil
---------

As mentioned above, Reyvateils are characters that use songs to attack. They
may be attackers, but they're far from strong defense wise. During battles,
they're stuck in the back. If an enemy hits them, expect to see that Reyvateil
either take enough damage to stick them in the Critical zone, or just die right
there. If a Reyvateil is targetted, the game will notify you, and you're left
to guard them so they don't take damage. This also enables you to counter
attacks.

------------
Grathmelding
------------

Players of the Atelier Iris games will probably already know how this aspect of
the game works. Grathmelding is just a fancy word for Item Synthesis. All
you basically do is gather the ingredients for a certain item you want to make
and combine them together to create the item. However, unlike the Atelier Iris
games, combining different materials will NOT result in a new item. Instead,
using different materials will just enhance the quality of the item.

---------
Diving
---------

Diving is basically when you enter the Cosmosphere of the Reyvateil that's in
your party. It basically means that you enter their own little world, such as
a dream of sorts and you can explore around inside. Don't get any perverted
thoughts, as you can't do THAT.

----------
Camp Tiles
----------

Like in the Atelier Iris games, the Camp Tiles are back, and work in basically
the same way. You can Grathmeld items here as well as rest and save. You can
also start up Conversations with the Reyvateils here as well by picking up the
several Topic items throughout the game.

4.) Walkthrough
===================

NOTE: I'll try to keep this walkthrough as spoiler free as possible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ar Tonelico: Phase 1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Watch the opening scenes, and you'll be thrown into a battle right off the
bat. It's not that hard, since the only choice you have right now is to
attack. After doing enough damage, some more scenes occur. The opening
credits roll as the scene goes on. Don't worry about finding the exit in this
area, as you're taken through it automatically. After the scenes, you'll have
control for the first time.

==============
Viola Forest
==============

Items
-----
Handkerchief
GNode Upgrade Crystal
Seed of Phebes
Blue Stone x5

-Once you're able to move around, get used to the controls and whatnot and
explore around the menu. When you're ready to take off, head to the right to
find a Handkerchief. The path here is pretty straightforward. Follow it and
you'll find a chest that has a GNode Upgrade Crystal in it. Grab the other
two items in this area for a Seed of Phebes and some Blue Stones. Make your
way to the south and use the Camp Tile to save your game. You'll find your
airship. Watch the scenes and you'll be able to leave the forest. Exit and
choose Karulu Village off the map.

==============
Karulu Village
==============

-The first thing you'll most likely notice is that instead of actually
exploring an entire town on foot, you have a menu of where you want to go.
I think it's an interesting idea. Anyways, explore around the town. Some new
places to explore will open up, so go ahead and explore them. Make sure to
visit the General Store. Once you're done, exit back into Viola Forest.

==============
Viola Forest
==============

-----

-Head up to where your airship is and watch the scene. In order to get your
airship back, you'll now have to do some Wolf hunting. The man in the green
outfit that was there earlier reappears, and introduces himself as Jack. He
joins your party now. Make your way back to Karulu Village.

-The path is pretty straightforward here, so follow it and you'll eventually
bump into the Blue Wolves that are giving the good people of Karulu Village a
bad time. You'll enter into a battle now. Try attacking the Wolves and you'll
find out that Lyner's weapons don't work on the Wolves, so Lyner and Jack
decide to retreat. Make your way back to Karulu Village again.

-Go to the inn and watch the scene. After that's done, a new area will be open
on the map. Choose the Tower Guardian and you'll be at the top. Talk with
the female behind the stand on the left and the scene. After it, go talk with
Grandpa on the right and he'll offer to teach you how to Grathmeld. He'll
show you how to make a Healy C. Yummy. After it, he'll want you to make a
Missile. Go to the inn and talk with the innkeeper. Choose Grathmelding off
the menu and make a Missile. Go back to Grandpa and talk with him and you'll
get a couple of items. Before leaving, make sure to have at least 2 Missiles.
When you're ready, make your way to Cello Forest.

Items
-----
White Stone x5
Running Wind

-Continue down to where you fought the Blue Wolves and keep going until you
reach a fork. Go east first and at the next fork, go east again and then go
north to find a bag with White Stone x5. Make your way back to the first fork
and go south this time and follow it. Use the Camp Tile along the way. Save
your game and continue on and you'll find the Blue Wolves from earlier. It's
not a tough fight. Have Lyner use a Missile and it'll pretty much take off
half of their health. Have Jack attack and after one more Missile from Lyner,
the Wolves should go down for the count. Grab the chest after the battle for
a Running Wind. Make your way back to Viola Forest.

-Once you enter, select to enter the main street and a scene will occur,
followed by your first boss battle.

O---------------O
| HP | 60788 |

-Don't worry about the HP total. Since this is your first boss fight, it's
actually pretty easy because of one thing: you have Aurica helping you. She'll
give you a small tutorial on how to use her Songs. Make sure to use them and
let her Red Magic power up as Lyner and Jack attack it. Once Aurica is about
to run out of MP, choose to activate the song and A.B.R should take a lot of
damage. Just rinse and repeat and he'll be gone soon.

After the fight, a new option will appear on your city menu. Choose to enter
the Elemia Church. Watch the scene. After it, head for the Inn. A scene
will automatically start up and you'll recieve a Double Attack Crystal. A
tutorial about Enhancing your weapons is now available, so watch it if you
want. Head up the stairs and talk with Aurica who's just sitting on the floor
looking around. I don't know about you, but I thought that was adorable.
Some more scenes occur. A man will come in asking to see Lyner alone. He
reveals himself as Bourd and tells Lyner to join him. After some more scenes,
you'll have a new place to crash at.

Items
-----
SC Ikaruga
Replica Horn x3
RC Tranquility
Song Stone x5
SC Boss Secret
Rock of Healing

-Watch the scene, and another Reyvateil, Misha, will join your party. Use the
camp tile and choose to Rest. A new option, the Conversation System, will now
become available. Once you're ready, exit the door and head down the hall
into the next door. Grab the item in here for an SC Ikaruga and Replica
Horn x3. Exit and continue on for a scripted fight. Simply have Misha build
up her Red Magic Song and she should be able to take out the majority of their
health. You're also introduced to guarding Reyvateils in this battle. This is
very important, so make sure to pay attention to what Misha tells you to do and
how it works.

After the fight, continue along and you'll find another door. Go through it
for two items bags and a chest which contain the RC Tranquility, Stone Stone x5
and a SC Boss Secret. Now continue along going south until you reach another
door. Continue along to find another door. Go through it. At the three way
fork here, go east and follow the path until you reach a Camp Tile. Make sure
to use it. Continue on and a scene will trigger. Once you regain control,
continue to the south and you'll reach a new room. Grab the Rock of Healing
here and exit and continue down the main path until you find another Camp Tile.
Continue on and watch the scene.

| Ikaruga Mk.I |
O--------------------O
| HP | 6000 |
O--------------------O

-You'll have a new party member for this fight. She wields a Chainsaw, so be
glad you can't piss her off. Ikaruga isn't hard for the most part, but he
has one attack that does some decent damage, so have either your new party
member use Cure Tablet or have Misha use her healing song. If Misha isn't
using her healing song, have her use her red magic song and build it up while
Lyner and our new Chainsaw wielding friend attack. Once the Ikaruga gets low
on health, it will start targetting Misha, so make sure to protect her before
the Ikarugas next attack. Just keep it up and he'll fall eventually.

After the scene, the Chainsaw wielding female runs away. After the fight,
make your way back to the Camp Tile that was on the catwalk and continue to the
west.

-Make sure to pick up the Topic on the ground. Remember, Topics are those
shiny things on the floors. Make sure to pick them up when you come across
them. There's a merchant here that sells Cards. Go ahead. Buy yourself one.
You earned it. Maybe you'll find someone that will duel with you. Okay, not
really. Anywho, continue exploring and you'll find a Dive House. Ignore it
for now and exit the area and choose to go to the General Store. There's a
Topic lying on the ground here so make sure to pick it up. Once you're done
here, make your way to the port.

talking, you can shop with her if you want. After that's done, make your way
back to the Tenba Lab. After the "sexy" conversation, make your way back to
Firefly Alley and enter the Dive House.

Here you'll be introduced to the Cosmospheres that reside in all Reyvateils.
You'll get a small explaination of how to move around inside. Visit the spot
with a star on it and pay 50 DP to enter it. After the scene, you'll learn
Thunder Shot. After that, go to the next star, and you'll learn Thunder Guard.
Go to the next star for a scene, and keep going to where the stars are.
Eventually you'll clear the first level of Misha's Cosmosphere. Now go back
to the Tenba Labs.

with two guards. After they're gone, exit out of this room to the south and
go down to find a chest that as SC Spica's Report 2 in it. Go back and use
the Camp Tile and continue following the path to find SC Spica's Report 1.
Continue along the path and you'll exit the area eventually.

-As soon as you enter, you'll get into a fight. It's not exactly hard. You'll
be introduced to the Ambience Field system in this fight. Just keep attacking
it with Lyner and Misha will eventually use her song automatically and the
battle will end right there.

After the fight, the Chainsaw wielding woman reveals herself as Krusche.
Continue along until you reach a fork. Grab the RC Powerful Medicine and go
east at the fork and grab the Running Ice here. Go back to the fork and go
north this time. Grab the SC Enhance Conquering item in this area and
continue along to the west to find some Running Fire. Backtrack and go north
until you reach a fork. Go west at it and open the chest here for the Defeated
Lovers Charm. Go back and go north this time and use the Camp Tile. Make
sure to grab the Topic on the ground here. Rest up and have some conversations
with Misha. Save your game and continue to the north.

Use the Camp Tile and continue to the west. At the next fork, continue along
to the west and grab the Warrior's Spirit in here. Backtrack to the fork and
go east this time. Grab the Airmetal, SC ABR Secrets 4, and the SC ABR Secrets

generator here and backtrack to the shuttle. Open it and you'll be taken to
the top floor. Exit and at the fork, go west and get the Thundershroom x3.
Go back and go south and east and a scene will occur. Grab the SC Enhance
Conquering 2 here and use the Camp Tile. Board the airship to continue and for
a fight. It's a simple battle. Simply have Misha use Energy Blast and use
Tranquilities on her so she can continue building it up. Have Krusche use Cure

watch the scenes. If you're ready to leave, tell Radolf you are and some

and after the scene, Radolf will join you. Radolf will also tell you of the
Dive House in Nemo. Go visit it and choose to dive into Aurica.

Assuming you haven't ran from any battles, you should have enough DP to finish
the first two levels of Auricas Cosmosphere. During the first level, you'll
recieve the Song Magic Fire Shot, Fire Guard, and Flamia. If you decide to do
the second level, you'll earn your first costume for Aurica, as well as learn
two new Song Magic. Whenever you're done screwing around (no pun intended),

-Grab the Ultimate Fang once you enter and continue along the path until you
reach the Camp Tile. From there, go to the east and break down the Fire Door
with Fire Shot at the end and get the two items inside for a Curing Amber and
a Berserking Power. Go back to the Camp Tile and go west this time and grab
the RC Screw and go back to the Camp Tile and head through the door.

Continue to the west and get the item along the way for the SC Girls Secret 1.
Backtrack and to the teleporter near the entrance and take it. Grab the SC

first and break down the Fire Door with Fire Shot and get the item for a Fiery

-There's a trick to this fight. This A.B.R will absorb any Song Magic that
Aurica throws at it, plus it can regenerate and hit your entire party. What
you should do is use Fire Guard with Aurica to enhance your weapons with Fire.
Now start attacking it and it shouldn't regenerate at all. Use Aurica to heal
up if needed, and just keep attacking it with Lyner, Krusche, and Radolf.

After the fight, watch the scenes and you'll be back at the Camp Tile. Save
your game and head to the west and keep going west until you hit a fork. Go
west at the fork to find a Windy Follower. Backtrack to the fork and go east
this time. At the next fork, go west to find White Stone x10. Go back and
take the middle path to find a Spoonful of MP. Go back once more and take the
east path this time. You'll come across yet another fork. Go east to find a
Vacuum Pipe x5. Go back and go north this time and continue to the north. A
scene will trigger. At the end of it, Aurica will learn Thunder Guard. Then
another fight will occur.

-Thankfully this one doesn't absorb magic nor does it regenerate. Simply
have Lyner and Jack attack it while Aurica should be building up Flamia or her
normal Song Magic. Use a Tranquility on her if needed and keep building up her
magic. Once it surpasses the 30,000% mark, you should be able to finish it
off in one shot with Aurica.

Burnt Root x5
Metal Frame
Dark Solution x10
Large Gear (Cog) x3
RC Revival Machine
Rather Defensive
SC Shop Secrets
Seed of Phebes x10
Rather Fast
RC White Ring

-From the start, continue down the main path going west until you reach a fork.
Go south first and get the Hero's Spirit. Backtrack and go west this time.
Continue to the west to find the SC MP Terror. Continue onward to the east
until your each a Camp Tile. Go east from there and pick up the RC Black
Ring along the way. Once you reach the next fork, go east to find Burnt Root
x5. Backtrack and go west this time. Head east to find a Metal Fragment and
then go back and head west this time.

Continue to the south to find Dark Solution x10. Continue on until you reach
the next fork. Go east and continue on to find Large Gear (Cog) x3. Backtrack
to the fork and go west. Continue along and get the RC Revival Machine along
the way. Keep going west and get the Rather Defensive. Now go back and go
south this time until you reach a Camp Tile. Save your game and continue to
the west to find Bourd. A fight will ensue.

Don't worry about Misha in this fight, as she won't attack. Focus on getting
your Harmonic gauge up to at least Level 3. Have your three front characters
attack the soldiers first, and then focus on Bourd. This fight isn't hard, but
you can get some good items if you can get your Harmonic Gauge to Level 4.

After the fight, Misha will join your party once again. You still have her
Dive Points from when she left, so don't worry about having to gather them up
again.

After the fight is over, continue onward and grab the SC Shop Secrets along
the way. Now continue west for the next few screens, and then turn and head
to the east. Grab the Seed of Phebes x10 along the way and continue to the
west. Once you reach the next Camp TIle, go west at the fork to find a Rather
Fast. Backtrack and go south and then west. Continue west and then turn and
go south. Get the RC White Ring and continue west until you exit the area
completely. Watch the following scenes.

SC L's Tower News 3

-Visit the Restoire to catch up on some conversations if you haven't done any
in awhile. Also head to the shop to find teh SC L's Tower News 3 sitting in
the corner. Make your way to the Temple Grounds and watch the scene. After
it, make sure to get some Healing items. Once you're ready, select the Temple
off the city map.

RC Iron
RC MP Recovery Machine
SC Teru Chief
RC Compass

-You're only going to have Lyner and Aurica for this dungeon, so make sure that
Lyner has his equipment fully upgraded and you Grathmelded enough healing
items. Once you're ready, go west from the start and follow the path as it
bends around to find the RC Iron. Backtrack to the beginning and go down
the bottom right path this time and get the RC MP Recovery Machine. Now make
your way to the southwest teleporter and take it. Grab the SC Teru Chief here
and take the teleporter back down. Take the northwest teleporter this time
and head to the right and follow the path around to find the RC Compass.
Continue following the path until you reach a Camp Tile. Save your game and
continue down the hall and you'll find Flute.

-You'll want to watch out for two things here. The first one is the most
obvious one. If he targets Aurica, make sure to protect her, as the attack he
uses on her is a multi hit one, and considering her defense is pure crap,
she'll wind up dead after it. The other thing you'll want to watch out for is
his ability to Poison you. His attacks may not do much damage, but if he gets
the chance to Poison you, you're going to want to heal it immediately. Have
Lyner use Impulse or normal attacks while Aurica should be using her best Red
Song Magic and let her build it up. It shouldn't take too long to take him
down.

Watch the scene and you'll be at the entrance of the Temple automatically.

Funny Clothing

Dragon Heart
Bushido Spirit
SC Circula Info
Yulastrino

-Do you remember where those worn out ledges were? Go examine one and Jack
will give you a Recipe Card to make Fertilizer to make it grow. Make about 5
or 6. Head for the Southeast Teleporter and fill in the gap. Cross it and
get the Funny CLothing and Sleepy Weapon on the other side. Head back and take
the Southwest teleporter this time. Head east and get the Dragon Heart along
the way. Go back to the first floor now and use the Northeast Teleporter.
Follow the path here. Go south and fill in the gap here and get the Bushido
Spirit on the other side. Now head for the other side of the area and follow
the path. Grab the SC Circula Info on the side and open the chest for the
Yulastrino. Now make the Circula. Once you make it, go visit the Temple.
After the scene, it's time to head for the Ion Plate. You can get there
by selecting the Em Pheyna Gate and talking to the guard next to it.

However, let's do a little catching up with Misha. If you haven't done her
Level 2 Cosmosphere yet, you should have more than plenty of Dive Points to
finish Levels 2 through 5. Make sure to explore around Karulu Village and Nemo
for some more Topics. Once you're ready, enter the Ion Plate.

SC Battle Secrets 1
GDH201
RC Chain 1
SC L's Tower News 1
RC Flashy Ring

Man I love the music that plays in the second part of this dungeon.

-Follow the main path until you reach a Camp Tile. There's a fork nearby as
well. Head east from it to find a SC Battle Secrets 1. Head back and go west
this time. Continue along the main path once again until you reach yet another
fork. Head north and then east to find a GDH201. Go west until you reach yet
another fork. Go east this time until you find the Camp Tile. At this fork,
take the left path and get the RC Chain 1. Make sure to make this, as it's a
good weapon for Krusche at this point and she can use a good upgrade. Now go
back to the first fork and go west. At this next fork, go north and you'll
find yet another effin' fork. Go west to find the SC L's Tower News 1. Go
back and head east this time. Now follow the linear path here as it expands
out for several screens. Grab the RC Flashy Ring at the end and head east.

-Grab the Uber Grade once you enter and follow the path until you reach a fork.
Use the Camp Tile if you desire and then head east to find another fork. Go
north from it and get the Rainbow Fragment and Beak Breath x3 at the end.
Go back to the fork and head east to find a Ultimate Fang. Backtrack to where
the Camp Tile is and head north this time. Watch the scene.

and continue to the west until you exit the area.

Items
-----
SC Virus! 1

-Explore the Inn and Shop for some Topics. Go ahead and upgrade your equipment
here. If you made the Chainsaw from the Recipe Card for Krusche, and you have
some spare Raychiels from previous battles, go ahead and sell the Raychiels.
They sell for a good amount of Leaf. Once you're done, head for the Platina
Great Hall and watch the scene. After it, the Dive House will be open. Grab
the SC. Virus! 1 sitting in the room and talk with the man in charge here.
Well, he certainly does like to add the letter Y to the end of most of his
words. You're then asked to dive into Aurica and Misha to figure out their
codes.

You now have to choose who to download the Hymn Crystal into. The choice is
completely up to you. I chose Aurica, but feel free to choose Misha if you
prefer her. Head back to the Platina Great Hall. Your Reyvateil will depend
on who you downloaded the Hymn Crystal into. In my case, Aurica joined my
party and Misha was left behind. If you downloaded the Hymn Crystal into
Misha, then Misha will most likely join your party and Aurica will be left
behind. Once you're done exploring the entire town, make your way back to
the Altar of Apostles. Enter it from the World Map.

RC Gun 1
Harmonion

-Head north and then turn and go east. At the fork, go south and then head
east. At the next fork, go south and then west to find the RC Gun 1. Now go
back to the previous fork and go east this time. Grab the Harmonion at the
end and make your way back to the first fork and go east. Keep going until you
reach the Camp Tile. Go north at the fork and watch the scene. You'll get
into a fight here with the Virus. It's not a hard fight. Make sure to try to
build your Harmonic Gauge to Level 4. One thing to note about this fight is
that you'll need to use all 3 people to protect your Reyvateil if the Virus
decides to target her. Just keep attacking. If you have any Regeneration
GNode Crystals on your characters, you should be fine.

After the fight, watch the scene.

-Watch the scenes and you'll be thrusted into a fight. It's the same fight as
last time, except the main Virus will spawn 3 minor ones, which are really weak
so go crazy on them. Once they're gone, the main Virus shouldn't pose a threat
still.

Watch the following scenes after the fight.

Items
-----
SC Cosplay
SC Slepnir

-Once you regain control, go ahead and head for the Department section of the
city. There's a SC Cosplay as soon as you enter. Head up the stairs to find
the SC Slepnir. The shop up here has a new recipe card, so make sure to
purchase it. Explore around the rest of the town to find some Topics. Now
select the first option off the city map and talk to the man on the far left.
He'll sell you some stuff now. Go ahead and purchase whatever you want.

Whenever you're done searching around town, head for the Altar of Apostles from
the Platina side. Head down the south path and open the door at the far end.
Go through to find Aurica. Watch the scene and you'll be back in Platina.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

What you're about to make is a critical choice in the game of which Revateils
path you're going to take. I'd suggest making a seperate save slot so you can
play both paths without having to restart. If you want Aurica's path, choose
NOT to join the search team. If you want Misha's path, choose to join the
search team. I chose Aurica, but the choice is up to you.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You'll be back at Platina. Everyone is still in your party. If you wish to
do some diving, go ahead and do it. I doubt you can get into Aurica's Level 5
Cosmosphere yet (I wasn't able to at this point), but you can most likely get
into Misha's Level 6 Cosmosphere. Just a little warning, though. Level 6 of
both Misha and Aurica's Cosmosphere gets a bit graphic and naughty and has some
cleavage shots, so if you're offended by any of that, don't say I didn't warn
you.

Once you're done, head for the Altar of Apostles.

-Simply just follow Lady Shurelia as she ventures into the dungeon. You'll
eventually find a teleporter. From here on out, whichever path you decided to
take will determine your current party. If you chose Aurica's path, your party
will be Lyner, Aurica, and Radolf.

Once you teleport, make your way to the exit (you've been to this area before)
and enter Nemo off the World Map.

SC Good Install 2

-You'll wind up at the Elemia Church automatically. After the scene, head to
Song Stone Park to find the SC Good Install 2. Now go to the inn and head to
Hoshinose Ave. Go talk to the merchant here, and then go back to the inn and
talk with Claire. Now make your way back to Hoshinose Ave. and watch the
scene. Go to the inn this time for another scene. Grab the Topic on the
ground near Claire. This Topic should enable you to enter Level 5 of Aurica's
Cosmosphere. If you do plan on diving into her, you're going to need to make
a certain item to complete Level 7. Go to Elemia Church now and then back to
the Inn to rest and save. Now make your way to Silvaplate.
