I. INTRODUCTION
- Welcome! This is my first faq/online guide, and I thought I'd make it about
one of my favorite (if not THE favorite) characters: Sephiroth. I am a Final
Fantasy mega fan, especially Final Fantasy VII (wich is my favorite) and
of course, Kingdom Hearts. The faq is fairly short, but to the point and
written in an easy format. It is based on the English version of
"Kingdom Hearts 2", and every name related to weapons, attacks, items,
abilities, etc., are the ones that appear in the English version. What makes
this faq special? Well, Im glad you asked: other FAQ's give you bits and strips
of strategies, how to dodge and evade attacks, boss data, and stuff like that.
Im not saying these FAQ's are wrong or incomplete or anything like that, I
myself have used these type of FAQ's many times, and I still do, but on this
FAQ you actually have a more direct approach way on how to deal massive damage
(taken ofcourse that you have what is needed and you follow the method). It is
a solid, direct tactic that is very effective to deal damage, and also to avoid
it, but my main focus is on dealing damage, while taking the least possible.
I found it worked very well, for me and my ten (10) tries atleast. If you find
some errors in the faq reffering to boss data or anything similiar please email
me; I will gladly look into it. Or if you simply want to make a suggestion, I
welcome all of them. I hope you enjoy this guide as much as I enjoyed
making it.

II. VERSION HISTORY
- v1.0: Finished guide in early April/06. Available online as of July 4, 2006.
v1.5: Started, finished and posted on July 8, 2006. Added the large note in
Section VIII / UnderSection C. (Sephiroths Attack's). Also edited and
reformed the abilities chart in Section V. Corrected some grammar
errors, and made some design changes (ie: ++++ to ^^^^). Edited
Section I ( INTRODUCTION).
===============================================================================
III. WHO IS SEPHIROTH?
- If your asking this question your either: A newbie to SquareEnix RPG's, are
not that big an RPG fan, have just started playing RPG's, you have nightmares
about him, or you just simply deny his existance because he's too cool; but to
those who don't know I have included a section so you can learn a bit about
this God-like figure...Sephiroth. Sephiroth is the main villain in SquareEnix's
Greatest Hit Title: "Final Fantasy VII". He is Cloud's (main character of same
game and pretty cool too) counterpart and they are eternal rivals. He was a
former general in SOLDIER(a special army of the Shinra Comp.),but turned evil.
He had an evil plot in FFVII, but Cloud and company stopped him. He also
appears on the upcoming sequel movie "FFVII: Advent Children". He has long
silver hair, a black costume/suit/coat (something in between), piercing green
eyes, wields a long blade named "Masamune", and goes by the name of -
"The One Winged Angel". If you want to find out more about him, feel free to
email me(contact info on Sec. # IX).
===============================================================================
IV. WHY SHOULD I FIGHT/DEFEAT SEPHIROTH?
- Apart from the fact that: you will be considered a pretty good gamer, you get
to BATTLE him (thats good enough), you can actually BEAT him (better), you'll
be in great awe and amazement, the cutscenes after the battle are awesome, its
SEPHIROTH - not your everyday bozo, he is beyond coolness, and its an
incredible experience just to fight him; defeating Sephiroth gives you an extra
Drive Gauge (+1), boosting the Drive gauge up to 7 gauges, and you get the
strongest (in strength, not magic) keyblade in the game - Fenrir. If you don't
want the glory, you'll probably want the rewards.
===============================================================================
V. WHAT LEVEL, ITEMS AND ABILITIES SHOULD I HAVE BEFORE I FIGHT HIM?
- Sephiroth is the strongest villain in the game. He has nearly fatal attacks,
and is very powerful. You should be in a level ranging from 80-90, infact, the
higher your level is, the better your off. I deafeated him wile I was in level
90, though you still have a pretty good chance of defeating him if your at a
lower level(but not below 80). You should equip alot of ethers (maybe 3 or more
but you should still leave space for other items; dont fill the item slots up
with just ethers), around 2 Hi-Potions (though ethers have more importance than
Hi-Potions, the Hi-Potions are important too), and one Elixir ( this is VERY
important because of Sephiroth's nearly fatal attack HEARTLESS ANGEL - i'll
explain it in detail later). If you have plenty Elixirs, then you might wanna
substitute them for ethers and Hi-Potions, since its 2 in one and in tight
spots it comes in handy. As for Weapons, you should definitely have Ultima
Weapon(check out other guides, they explain how to get Ultima and other
Keyblades), since its the strongest and it has MP Hastega, wich will
restore your MP INCREDIBLY fast. If you don't have Ultima, then you should just
go with the next best thing - Oblivion. If no Oblivion - wich would be weird
not to have it, since you get it by default near the end of the game - , then
just go with the strongest. As for armor and accesories, just go with the
ones that increase your defense, strenght and AP alot, and that have
Fire and Dark resistance. There are a couple, but just so you have an idea:
Ribbon, Cosmic Belt, , Chaos Anklet, Firagun Bangle, Cosmic Arts, Fencer
Earring, Star Charm, etc. (there are also guides that explain how to get
these). In regard to abilities, you should have a good deal of 'em...

VI. FIGHTING SEPHIROTH
a. Where to find Sephiroth
- You can find Sephiroth in "The Dark Dephts", after you revisit
the worlds and Hollow Bastion turns into Radiant Garden (right
after you defeat Sark and the MCP in Space Paranoids). Its
located near the Crystal Fissure, and were you fought the
1,000 Heartless.
b. Sephiroth's Data
- Sephiroth HP is 3,000. He has FIFTHTEEN (15) HP Bars (the one
he starts with and 14 below that one). He gives you NO
experience, he has 42 strength, 24 defense, all Fire, Blizzard
Thunder and Dark magic do zero (0) damage to him, and weapons
damage him x1. This means its mostly a weapon battle, magic
(except Curaga), won't help you here. While battling him, you
can only perform one reaction command: "Block", which deflects
his Flash attack.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
c. Sephiroth's Attacks
Attack Type Description Deflect?
Cut Combo Weapon 7 Slashes Yes, but
Combo continues
Aerial Cut Combo Weapon Upward Slash Yes, but
then 4 aerial slashes Combo continues
Moving Cut Weapon Rapid open Slash Yes, but
Combo continues
Flash Weapon Charges an attack Can only be
and unleashes 13 slashes deflected with
reaction command
Shadow Flare Dark Creates balls of darkness Yes
around Sora, which can be
destroyed.
Firaga Wall Fire 15 pillars of fire No
appear around Sephiroth;
it pulls Sora toward the pillars
Meteo Other Meteors fall from the sky No
*Heartless Angel* Other Leaves Sora with 1 HP No, but can be
and 0 MP. His best attack interrupted,
and very dangerous. which is CRITICAL
NOTE: Sephiroth starts off the battle slowly. By this I mean he starts Studying
Sora and his attacks. He walks the stage, but can land solid powerful
attacks and get close pretty quick. After taking some damage, he run's
instead of walking, and his attacks are fiercer. Later in the battle,
after taking more damage, he just goes all out, and the attacks are at
his best. I have heard some people classify these stances into three (3)
Stages, and in a sense I can agree, but they also claim that in each Stage
Sephiroth gets an additional attack (he starts out with certain ones, and
as he takes damage and the battle progresses, he starts to use different
attacks he did not use before). I can only agree when it comes to the
rapidness, quickness, and intensity of the attacks. As for Sephiroth using
new attacks as the battle progresses, I dont really agree, since out of
ten (10) times I fought him, on four (4) ocassions he used attacks early
in the battle that in other tries he used later in the game, (ie: "Meteo")
So maybe it is true, but in my opinion It differs, though you can come to
your own speculations and conclusions. (I fought Sephiroth 10 times to
collect AI Boss Data)

d. *THE BATTLE*
NOTE: This battle is fought with Sora alone.
*********************************SEPHIROTH*************************************
***************************THE*ONE*WINGED*ANGEL********************************
* - Well, its finally here; Sephiroth. Let's get right down to business. The *
* second the battle starts, QUICKLY press the reaction command button. This *
* attack, FLASH, can not be guarded against or countered, but you can use the *
* reaction command button to deflect the 13 devastating blows. After you *
* deflect the move, quickly start pounding at him with solid combos. What *
* you want to do is pound him with ground combos and when the combo's coming *
* to an end, press the square button to execute the finishing move "Finishing *
* Leap" to launch him into the air, then keep pounding him with air combos *
*(you can also set the finisher "Explosion" and then execute "Finishing Leap" *
* but you risk the chance of knocking him away, and "Finishing Leap" won't *
* work, therefore you can't keep on with the aerial attacks). This is the *
* importance of the Aerial abilities. After you finish the Aerial combo, wait *
* a couple of seconds. Sephiroth will move in to attack with "Cut Combo". *
* Stay as far away as possible (you can use Glide to make it easier), and when*
* he finishes the combo, start pounding at him again, but when you launch him *
* into the air, use "Trinity Limit" to cause some massive damage. When you *
* finish using "Trinity Limit", Sephiroth will either use his "Firaga Wall", *
* "Shadow Flare", or possibly, but he normally uses it later in the battle, *
* "Meteo". If he uses "Firaga Wall", simply Glide away and after it finishes *
* TRY and land a combo on him, but it is hard, so wait till he gets closer. *
* If he uses "Shadow Flare", jump away, and use Reflega if needed, but the *
* Keyblade is a bit more trustworthy; then move in to attack. If he uses *
* "Meteo", then glide or run and jump to avoid being hit too much (your still *
* gonna get hit here or there because its kinda hard to evade the meteors. *
* After all the meteors fall, quickly attack. Its always the same pattern: *
* Ground combo, "Finishing Leap", Aerial Combo (with "Aerial Finish") and *
* "Trinity Limit" (if he hasn't recovered). If Sephiroth starts to glow a *
* light purple color, QUICKLY ATTACK HIM OR USE "TRINITY LIMIT". This attack *
* is called "Heartless Angel". It leaves you with 1 HP and 0 MP. When he *
* starts to glow, he then rises pretty high into mid-air. If your close to *
* him, jump and start pounding at him with Aerial moves. If your quick enough,*
* the attack will fail. If your far away, then IMMEDIATELY use "Trinity Limit"*
* and you'll start attacking him in mid-air and knock off the attack. You can *
* also use this if you think you can spare the MP, but its a good idea to save*
* it for other things, so only use it if your far away. If you can't reach *
* Sephiroth in time, or for another reason you can't stop the attack, run away*
* and DO NOT DO ANYTHING YET. Wait for Sephiroth to get to the ground, 'cause *
* almost always after he finishes this attack, he follows it up with the *
* "FLASH" attack. So wait 'till he hits the ground and prepare to press the *
* reaction command button. If he doesn't attack with flash, then quickly cure *
* yourself. If he does perform "FLASH", then after you Block it, quickly cure *
* yourself. Then if he's still open, keep pounding him. If your quick enough *
* you can cure yourself before he hits the ground, THEN block and attack, but *
* it is risky. At this point in the battle, he'll use any of his attacks, just*
* keep using the strategies to dodge'em, then keep pounding at him with the *
* same pattern. You can get a good Combo on the ground and in the air before *
* he recovers. When he does, just watch for the attack hes going to perform. *
* ALWAYS keep your HP ABOVE half and use your MP wisely, but you WILL use it *
* alot. Also keep your MP up all of the time. This battle is hard, but you *
* just have to keep your HP up, try and take the least damage possible, pound *
* at him CONTINUALLY, but with caution, 'cause he can recover pretty fast, use*
* the "TRINITY LIMIT" to cause good damage and you can also AVOID damage this *
* way (except with "Heartless Angel"), equip "Finishing Plus" to do an extra *
* VERY GOOD final attack, and use your Hi-Potions when you feel your gonna use*
* your MP soon. Always use the pattern and take advantage when he's open. *

e. Victory Rewards
- For defeating Sephiroth, you get 2 very important things.
First: A plus one (+1) boost to your Drive Gauge, boosting it
up to a total of 7 Drive Gauges, which is pretty cool.
Second (but the best): The strongest Keyblade (in strength)
in the game: "Fenrir". Go to the Market Place and talk to
Cloud. He'll then head over to The Dark Dephts. Follow him
there and then the cutscene will start. After the cutscene
"Show Down of Fate 2",Tifa will give you "Fenrir". It has 7
strength and 1 magic {thats why its the strongest ONLY in
strength, I emphasize this cause some people say STRONGEST and
others associate this with BEST, but the magic sucks, so its
not exactly the BEST.I prefer Ultima, but Fenrir is the best
weapon to team up with Ultima in a Form, especially Final
Form}. Its effect is "Negative Combo", which decreases the
number of hits you deal in a ground combo by one (1). All in
all, the rewards are the best, and the cutscenes shed a bit
more light in Sephiroth's and Cloud's story in Kingodm Hearts,
not to mention they are some of the coolest fight scenes in
the game.
