===================================DISCLAIMER==================================
I have decided not to allow websites other than Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com),
IGN (faqs.ign.com), Gamerhelp (www.gamerhelp.com) & Gamespot (www.gamespot.com)
to host my FAQs from now on.
Please don't ask, because I will not grant permission. It's just that too many
sites don't keep their version of my FAQ up to date which makes for a lot of
hassle in my mailbox.
So if anyone sees this FAQ on any site other than those mentioned above, please
let me know and I will take care of the situation, thanks.
Just to make things crystal clear for some people, this FAQ is not to appear

(C) WALKTHROUGH
###############################################################################
Bricklayer J. Gastronomy
You will find the walkthrough for the game in the sections below.
Although the stages have a physical layout, in almost all cases it doesn't
matter because you are just attacking whatever enemies spawn nearest to you.
They do this almost constantly and pretty randomly in most cases.
###############################################################################
(C-01) A STRANGER IN TOWN
###############################################################################
Use "R1" or "circle" to dodge/deflect the 2 enemies' shots, then attack them
[you will quickly learn that dodging constantly helps out a lot]. Kill another
enemy just ahead and one to your left, then kill a knife enemy and his friend
on the stairs.
Slash the wood below the trio of enemies to bring them down to the ground, then
finish them off. Use your power attack on a group just ahead of you, then pick
up a crate and kill the enemies by the stairs.
Attack a large group up ahead until your master gauge is filled, then press
"L1" to enter ultimate master mode. Kill the rest of the enemies in this mode
to finish the stage.
###############################################################################
(C-02) A PRAIRIE BREEZE
###############################################################################
Decide how you want to distribute your stat points [I recommend dumping them
all into Defense] and pick any accessories that you want to use, then press
start to begin the stage.
Kill the enemies on the lower floor and activate ultimate master mode when your
master gauge fills. Kill the enemies on the stairs and a few upstairs, then
return to the ground floor and finish off the rest to end the stage.
There's nothing terribly tricky about it, just keep moving while dodging almost
constantly and watch your radar.
###############################################################################
(C-03) A BLOODY WIND
###############################################################################
-------
Part 01
-------
In this part of the stage, your biggest threat are the enemies that have
tommyguns. You can't deflect all of their bullets, so your best bet is to
dodge to either side as they shoot, then slash them to death.
Otherwise follow your radar to find out where the action is, slash wooden posts
to drop most high enemies and use ultimate master mode when you can.
-------
Part 02
-------
The boss here taunts you before firing a burst from his chaingun. You want to
dodge and counter with 2-3 slashes, then repeat until your gauge is full.
Once in ultimate master mode you should lay into the boss with longer combos
and dodge if he starts to block your attacks. Otherwise the battle should be
over fairly quickly by this point, as well as the stage.
###############################################################################
(C-04) THE DYING
###############################################################################
This stage adds giants with boomerangs as well as shotgun enemies into the mix.
Otherwise you fight normal gunners, tommygun enemies and some with explosives.
The basic idea is the same though, keep moving while dodging or deflecting and
attack the enemies to build your master gauge, then use ultimate master mode
and repeat.
###############################################################################
(C-05) THE INVITATION
###############################################################################
This stage is quite a bit harder than the ones that you've seen so far, so I
recommend re-playing some of the older stages to build your level up to at
least 10.
This stage has the same enemies that you've seen so far, but there's more of
them.
You want to fight your way through the hall and down the stairs, then up some
other stairs. Work your way back down and kill some more enemies, then Jean
should show up.
This time he swings has massive chaingun in a circle or straight down, instead
of firing it in bursts. You want to dodge this attack and get in 3-4 slashes,
[use ultimate master mode when you can] then repeat until the stage ends.
###############################################################################
(C-06) A WHIRLWIND
###############################################################################
This is a pretty short stage but it has a lot of tommygun enemies, so you'll be
doing a lot dodging. As long as you keep an eye and ear open for their shots,
you should be just fine though.
Some of the crates can also be thrown to find some gold coins, just don't slash
them instead or they'll explode in your face.
[If you want, you can finish the stage again with at least one custom rule, to
unlock Extra Stage 6].
###############################################################################
(C-07) A WANTED MAN
###############################################################################
-------
Part 01
-------
For the first part of this stage you should just follow your radar [switch to
the bigger view] and kill the enemies until the boss battle begins.
-------
Part 02
-------
This boss either fires a single shot, or a quick burst of about 6 shots. Other
times he will roll forward towards you.
He always rolls if you attack him from the front, so dodge his shots and get in
3 hits or so from the side or back. Quickly run away and doge after this combo
because he will likely try to roll into you.
Otherwise repeat and try to get some long combos in once you activate ultimate
master mode.
###############################################################################
(C-08) REUNION
###############################################################################
-------
Part 01
-------
There's no surprises here, just fight off the usual enemies that you've faced
many times before until the boss battle begins.
-------
Part 02
-------
This boss runs a lot and either does a shotgun blast or a sweeping machinegun
burst. Dodge either attack and try to counter with a long combo [and of course
use ultimate master mode when you can]. The machinegun attack is easier to
counter, but they're both possible.
###############################################################################
(C-09) BREAKTHROUGH
###############################################################################
I recommend building up to at least level 20 before playing this stage. It
also helps a lot if you build your master gauge up on the way to the bottom,
then use it on the bosses.
-------
Part 01
-------
For this part of the stage you don't even need to kill everyone, you just need
to make it to the bottom of the mine.
So climb the stairs and enter the mines, then go left at the first fork. Go
down the ramp and through the passage guarded by four enemies standing in a
row.
Go left at the next fork and follow the tracks off a ledge, then head right and
follow the tracks to start the boss battle.
-------
Part 02
-------
These guys are VERY annoying, because one of them basically follows you around
trying to slash you while the other one fires a shotgun.
The best strategy is to build your master gauge before the battle, then
activate it and beat the tar out of the two bosses.
[If you want, you can finish the stage again with at least one custom rule, to
unlock Extra Stage 9].
###############################################################################
(C-10) BREAKOUT
###############################################################################
-------
Part 01
-------
In this part of the stage you need to defuse 7 bombs, so the enemies are not
your main concern. You can tell when you're near a bomb because you will hear
children's voices calling for help.
Go right at the first side street and climb the stairs to find the first bomb,
then slash at it like crazy to defuse it. Return to the main path and climb
the stairs on your left to reach a tommygun enemy and the second bomb.
Continue along the main path as you pass through a gate, then look right at the
broken down house to find an explosive enemy and the third bomb. Cross the
wooden bridge up ahead and look for the fourth bomb in the corner, at the left
end of the stone wall.
Keep going until you reach the graveyard, then go left to the building at the
top of the hill. Look left of the stairs for the fifth bomb, then leave the
graveyard through the gate [NOT the way you came in].
Jump the fence on your left to find a small outhouse, a clothes-line and the
sixth bomb. Finally, enter the nearby building and defuse the last bomb in the
bathtub.
-------
Part 02
-------
This boss still loves to run away and use his machinegun to attack you. It's
best to chase him down and dodge the bursts of bullets as he fires from one or
both of his guns. Quickly counterattack with as many hits as you can manage,
then repeat [and of course use ultimate master mode when you can].
[If you want, you can finish the stage again with at least one custom rule, to
unlock Extra Stage 10].
###############################################################################
(C-11) A HANGING
###############################################################################
This stage is the usual deal, fight off all the enemies and don't forget to use
your ultimate master mode when you can.
###############################################################################
(C-12) DUEL IN THE WILDERNESS
###############################################################################
-------
Part 01
-------
This part of the stage is the usual deal, fight off all the enemies and don't
forget to use your ultimate master mode when you can.
-------
Part 02
-------
For this boss you should avoid his barrage of bullets and counterattack with
3-4 hits. Otherwise stick with a 3 hit counter after he swings his gun and use
ultimate master mode when you can.
###############################################################################
(C-13) A LOST SOUL
###############################################################################
This stage is the usual deal, fight off all the enemies and don't forget to use
your ultimate master mode when you can.
[If you want, you can finish the stage again with at least one custom rule, to
unlock Extra Stage 13].
###############################################################################
(C-14) AGAINST THE ODDS
###############################################################################
This stage is the usual deal, fight off all the enemies and don't forget to use
your ultimate master mode when you can.
###############################################################################
(C-15) FALLING CHERRY BLOSSOMS
###############################################################################
It help a LOT if you can save your ultimate master mode for the boss battle in
this stage, also using the Hyakki Yako sword at level 5 or better.
-------
Part 01
-------
This part of the stage is the usual deal, fight off all the enemies [the
explosives are the most annoying] and don't forget to use your ultimate master
mode when you can.
-------
Part 02
-------
This boss is VERY difficult and really annoying, I strongly recommend building
up the Hyakki Yako sword to level 5 or better.
The boss fires either 1 or 2 shots at a time and sometimes he does a jumping
roll with a flurry of shots. If you get close, he will also bash you with his
guns, so don't stay close for long.
It's pointless to attack the boss directly, but you can dodge one of his
attacks and quickly counter with 1-2 slashes of your own before dodging away
from his gun-bash counter.
The Hyakki Yako sword makes this battle easier because the few shots that you
land do a lot more damage than the default sword. It is also extremely helpful
to have your master gauge filled before this battle.
###############################################################################
(C-16) SAMURAI SPIRIT
###############################################################################
I say that you stick with the Hyakki Yako sword for this stage, but the choice
is yours.
-------
Part 01
-------
Simply fight your way up the stairs and left up some more stairs, then follow
the path until you reach the sword. This starts a short cutscene and the final
boss battle, so hopefully you built up your master gauge beforehand.
-------
Part 02
-------
This boss isn't nearly as bad as the one from stage 15. Basically he either
fires his small pistol or his larger gun and either one can be easily dodged.
Get in close and counter with a medium to large combo, then dodge out of the
way of his melee attack.
Remember that you can leave the room at any time to fight minions and build up
the master gauge, though it definitely helps to have it built up before this
fight.
After this battle, you're done the game!
[If you want, you can finish the stage again with at least one custom rule, to
unlock Extra Stage 16].
You can play through hard mode now if you want and replay the stages to unlock
all sorts of things.
###############################################################################
(D) WANTED POSTERS
###############################################################################
Once you finish the game on normal, you will unlock hard mode. When playing
this mode, a wanted poster gets added to each of the 16 stages [and the 5 extra
stages]. You need to find this wanted poster and collect it to unlock a new
character that you can play as.
In order to get the wanted poster you must be playing on hard mode [except for
extra stage 16] and in some cases you need to be using a one-handed sword that
allows you to double jump.
These swords are either the Daihan'nya or Akitsu, and I recommend the Akitsu
because it has more power [it's up to you though].
I have listed where to find the wanted poster in each of the 16 stages.
--------
Stage 01
--------
Unlock: Ripper.
Double Jump: Not required.
Midway through stage you will see a large saloon [on the left side of the
path]. Climb the staircase that's left of the front doors of this saloon.
Jump across the ledge above these doors and walk across the rope with the
coloured flags hanging off it. Try 1st person view "L2" if you are having
trouble, then collect the wanted poster up ahead and finish the stage.
--------
Stage 02
--------
Unlock: Oaf.
Double Jump: Not required.
Check under the staircase that's to the right of the stage [left of the bar] to
find the wanted poster, then finish the stage.
--------
Stage 03
--------
Unlock: Eve.
Double Jump: Not required.
Turn around at the start of the stage and follow the path until it ends by a
white covered wagon. Look for the "South Station" building right a bit from
this wagon. Check the alley to the left of this building to find the wanted
poster, then finish the stage.
--------
Stage 04
--------
Unlock: Vile.
Double Jump: Not required.
Head for the graveyard and cross the wooden bridge in the corner, then follow
the path to find the wanted poster out in the open.
--------
Stage 05
--------
Unlock: Little Baby.
Double Jump: Not required.
Go down the staircase in the main room and cross to the other side, then follow
the stairs up to the wanted poster at the very top. You can also just
double jump over the railing to get there much faster.
--------
Stage 06
--------
Unlock: Bart.
Double Jump: Not required.
Go down the stairs from the statue and the main doors, then look for the open
gate straight ahead of you. Look to the right of this gate between the wall
and the hedge to find the wanted poster.
--------
Stage 07
--------
Unlock: General.
Double Jump: Not required.
Go right to the "South Station" train station and look farther right for a
building that's open on both ends. Walk inside this building and take the
wanted poster from inside.
--------
Stage 08
--------
Unlock: Faceless Boss.
Double Jump: Required.
Since you are likely being shot at while you attempt this poster, you should
kill any tommygun enemies before you jump to the chain.
Go up the stairs to the second floor and go to the end that's to the right of
the stage below. Look for a short bridge of sorts and find the lower chain
that leads to the large chandelier. The wanted poster is on the chandelier and
you need to walk across this chain to get there.
So double jump up to the chain and cross to the chandelier [use 1st person
view to cross easier], then take the wanted poster and finish the stage.
--------
Stage 09
--------
Unlock: Nathan.
Double Jump: Required.
Climb the stairs at the start of the stage and double jump onto the roof to
your right. Go to the right end of the roof and rotate the camera until you
see a small slide sticking out below with the wanted poster at the top of it.
Slowly inch yourself off the roof so you land on this slide, then run up the
slide to get the poster.
Unlock: Joey.
Double Jump: Required.
Enter the mines and go right at the first major fork, then grab the crate on
the bridge as you cross to the other side. Follow the path right to a dead-end
as you see the wanted poster above you, then drop the crate and double jump up
to the wanted poster.
--------
Stage 10
--------
Unlock: Anne.
Double Jump: Required.
Go to the graveyard and look to your right to see the wanted poster up in a
tree. Grab one of the big tombstones and bring it over to this tree, then drop
it by hitting square. Jump on the tombstone and double jump from there to
reach the wanted poster.
Unlock: Brat.
Double Jump: Not required.
Destroy the small outhouse on your right that's between the starting area and
the graveyard to find this wanted poster.
--------
Stage 11
--------
Unlock: Donald.
Double Jump: Required.
Follow the main path until you reach the area with the "South Station" [same
place you found the poster in stage 03]. Backtrack a bit and check along the
row of buildings until you see the one with the white/red/blue flags hanging
from the balcony. Double jump up to the balcony and take the wanted poster.
--------
Stage 12
--------
Unlock: Jean.
Double Jump: Required.
Head for the bridge at the edge of the chasm, then run right up the left wooden
post. Double jump right at the top to grab the wanted poster that's floating
in the air.
--------
Stage 13
--------
Unlock: Faceless.
Double Jump: Required.
Check just beside the left side of the stage with the piano, right above a pipe
on the wall to find this wanted poster [use a double jump to reach it].
--------
Stage 14
--------
Unlock: Lanky.
Double Jump: Not required.
Turn around at the start of the stage and follow the path up a hill to find the
wanted poster.
--------
Stage 15
--------
Unlock: Rando.
Double Jump: Not required.
Hug the right wall at the very start of the stage and follow a narrow path
along the cliff's edge to reach the wanted poster.
--------
Stage 16
--------
Unlock: Goldberg Clothed.
Double Jump: Not required.
Work your way to the middle staircase up high as if you're climbing to the top,
then look under the final set of stairs that lead to the open door above. The
wanted poster is floating in the air so just jump to it.
Unlock: Ralph.
Double Jump: Required.
Hug the left wall at the start of the stage and double jump up the pipes to
reach this wanted poster.
Unlock: Sweetheart.
Double Jump: Not required.
Play this stage on Normal and climb the main staircase, then head right at the
fork until you enter the room with the large table. Jump over the painting in
the far left corner to find this wanted poster.
--------------
Extra Stage 06
--------------
Unlock: Goldberg Unclothed.
Double Jump: Required.
Work your way inside to the main doors and jump up the large statue in front of
them. Face away from the doors and double jump to reach the wanted poster
floating in the air.
--------------
Extra Stage 09
--------------
Unlock: Killer.
Double Jump: Required.
Turn around at the start and double jump onto the nearby roof, then jump up to
a second roof. Turn left and walk/jump across the rope to the other side, then
grab the wanted poster on your left [just above the mine entrance].
--------------
Extra Stage 13
--------------
Unlock: Claudia.
Double Jump: Required.
Go right at the first major fork and drop off the bridge, then look up under
the bridge to see the wanted poster floating up there. Rapidly jump against
one of the wooden pillars at that end of the bridge to effectively climb it
and reach one of the horizontal sections, then carefully jump to the wanted
poster.
Unlock: Harvey.
Double Jump: Required.
Go right at the first major fork and cross the bridge, then climb the steps and
follow the tracks. Grab a box and carry it into the next room, then look right
to see the wanted poster on a ledge. Carefully double jump from your box to
reach the wanted poster.
[You can also reach this area by working your way up the ledges and steps from
the ground where you fight the bosses.]
--------------
Extra Stage 16
--------------
This is the only wanted poster that you must play on Normal Mode instead of
Hard Mode to collect.
Unlock: Urchin
Double Jump: Not required.
As soon as you start the stage you will see the wanted poster above the rocky
hill ahead of you. So walk on over there and jump to the top to get it.
###############################################################################
(E) TIPS
###############################################################################
Although jumping attacks are slower, they are quite strong and can protect you
from explosive attacks that would otherwise damage you on the ground.
Almost every enemy has a small stream of smoke rising above them before they
fire their weapon, so watch for it and react accordingly.
Bosses show up as purple dots on the radar, just in case you're having trouble
telling them apart from their minions.
You cannot be harmed during ultimate master mode and you kill all minions with
one hit. You also run constantly and can do much longer combos against bosses.
The gauge also refills as you kill enemies, so use it wisely and attack
everything that moves to get the most out of it.
You should dodge constantly as you move, especially in later stages. It allows
you to reach enemies faster without being knocked back and lets you perform
proper counters [which do double the damage of normal attacks] easier.
Don't forget to equip the accessories that you find. It's impossible to wear
all of them at once, but they definitely increase your stats and help make
fighting easier.
You can replay a stage with custom rules after you finish it once. The five
rules provide extra challenge while you play the stage. By finishing the stage
with these rules, a multiplier will increase both your score and your EXP after
the stage is over. This helps a lot for leveling up, or trying to beat high
scores.
Although it's tempting to put your points into other stats while you gain
levels, you should dump them ALL into defense. The other stats are easily
raised by accessories and your weapons as they level up.
###############################################################################
(F) ITEMS
###############################################################################
------------
Silver Coins
------------
Every time you get 10 of these, your weapon goes up one level.
----------
Gold Coins
----------
These coins temporarily raise the stats on the accessories that you are
wearing.
----
Meat
----
This restores some of your HP when picked up.
------
Bottle
------
Collecting one of these will build up some of your master gauge.
-----
Boots
-----
You run much faster for a few seconds after collecting these.
------
Barrel
------
You have VERY powerful attacks for a brief period, when you pick up one of
these.

(J) EXPERIMENTAL
###############################################################################
For a little while now I've had a paypal link in all my FAQs at the very bottom
here. Mainly as a small experiment since a few other FAQ authors have also had
the same idea.
I had a few people email me before I put this link in because they wanted to
send money, so it's here for those people.
For the record I've received about $87 (which works out to a bit more in
Canadian lol) last I checked, so I've been getting cases of pop and making some
excellent progress on a few FAQs.
If you don't want to send money or can't then send me an email, it's nice to
hear what people thought about my work and there's always room for improvement.
My email address is fecalord (AT) gmail (DOT) com, and the paypal address is
listed below.
For those that want to contribute, you can use paypal at the following address:
fecalord2002 (AT) yahoo (DOT) ca
Many thanks, and I hope you continue to use my work!
