I INTRODUCTION I
----------------------------------\ \___/ /----------------------------------
\_______/
This game is fantastic! Capcom has brought us some of the most addicting
combat I have seen in a game. Bloody combat has never been so brutal and so
much fun in an action game! This walkthrough is designed to get you through
the main game of Shadow of Rome and to help you find all the extras that are
contained within. All the Salvos, and all of the game's secrets are listed
below the walkthrough. Each of Agrippa's Arena stages has a Gold Ranking
Strategy to help you out on gaining those gold medals and each of Octavianus'
stages have coin locations for each area. Please note that everything is
written for normal mode. As in my other walkthroughs I have stayed away from
anything dealing with the plot, but if you consider boss names a spoiler, then
tread carefully.
Please enjoy this FAQ and give me an email if you have any questions, comments,
or if you find anything that I missed. Any comments, suggestions, questions,
etc. are always welcome. Email me at berserker_kev@yahoo.com. Also, if you
find any errors in this FAQ (I don't care how little of an error), then please
email me about it.

II CHARACTER CONTROLS AND WEAPONS II
----------------------------------\ \___/ /----------------------------------
\_______/
=========================
= CHARACTERS CONTROLS =
=========================
-----------------
AGRIPPA'S ACTIONS
-----------------
Auto-target - Hold R1 while an enemy is on the screen to auto-target them. Use
the right analog to switch between opponents. This makes stealth kills much
easier in the first few stages.
First person view - Hold R2. This can be used for stealth kill as well, or
just looking around.
Block - Hold L1. You can block at any time, but if you have a weapon equipped,
the block will be more guaranteed.
Appeal to the Crowd - Press X + Square. This will only help you in the arena,
but feel free to use as a taunt outside of the arena.
Punch - Press X or Square while weaponless to make Agrippa punch. Press X or
Square with a weapon equipped to perform a variety of different moves depending
on the weapon. See the weapons section for more details.
Shoulder Ram - Hold R1 and press toward your opponent and X.
Power Attack (Charge Attack) - Press and hold X or Square to charge an attack.
Most attacks can be charged.
Supra Attack - Hold R1 and press toward your opponent and X.
Kick - Hold R1 and press away from your opponent and X or Square.
Enemy Shield - Stand behind a stunned opponent and press Square to use them as
a shield to oncoming attacks.
Suplex - Stand behind a stunned opponent and press Square to grab them, then
keep tapping either Square or X to suplex them. On the Salvo list this
referred to as the Human Catapult.
Attacking Enemies on the Ground:
-- Stomping - Press X over a fallen opponent.
-- Grab - Press Square over a fallen opponent.
-- Weapon Attack - Hold R1 and press Square over a downed opponent.
Stealing weapons from enemies:
-- Grab and struggle - While weaponless, stand next to an opponent that is not
attacking or taking damage and press X to initiate a struggle for his/her
weapon. Tap X or Square to pull the weapon out of your opponent's hands.
-- Snatch - While weaponless, press X the moment right before a weapon attack
connects to instantly snatch the weapon from the enemy's hands.
Dropping Weapons or items:
-- Drop weapon (right-hand) - D-pad right.
-- Drop weapon (left-hand) - D-pad left.
-- Drop helmet - D-pad up.
-------------------
OCTAVIANUS' ACTIONS
-------------------
Pick up, Examine, Talk - Press O. Do not pick up a weapon in front of a guard
while disguised or your disguise will be ruined.
Use an Item/Weapon - Press either Square or X depending on which hand the
weapon is held in. Like Agrippa, Octavianus can handle two weapons at a time.
Hiding an Item/Weapon - Press and hold both L1 and R1 to hide your current
weapon behind your back. Make sure to keep your front side to your foe.
Octavianus will automatically lock on to the closest foe while the buttons are
being held.
Whistle - Press both Square and X together. This move is priceless, and must
be used during certain stages of the game to lure guards toward a specific area
to quickly knock them out or get by them - don't forget about it!
Walk - Hold L1 while moving. You will have to walk a bunch when guards are
present whether you are in disguise or not. Running will ruin you disguise.
Crouch - Press and hold L2. This can be used for sneaking by enemies or to
knock them out quickly.
First person view - Hold R2. Just like with Agrippa, this can be used to make
your aiming better.
Auto-target - Hold R1. Use this before striking an opponent with an object to
make sure you hit him/her correctly. Use the right analog to switch between
opponents.
Dropping Weapons:
-- Drop weapon (right-hand) - D-pad right.
-- Drop weapon (left-hand) - D-pad left.

=============
= WEAPONS =
=============
-----------------
AGRIPPA'S WEAPONS
-----------------
>> BARE FISTS <<
Agrippa's bare fists are not too damaging, but he does have quite a variety of
attacks while weaponless
Moves and combos:
-- Square, Square, Square
-- X, X
-- Square, Square, X
-- Square, Square, X, Square, X - Fists of Fury.
-- Toward + X - Ram Supra Attack. A charged ram is an excellent way to make
the enemy drop their weapon.
-- Back + X (or Square) - Kick. This can also be done with a weapon equipped.
-- Press X right before an enemy's weapon attack - Agrippa will snatch the
weapon directly out of the enemy's hand and knock them him down.
-- Press X when next to an enemy with a weapon - This will start a struggle in
which Agrippa will attempt to steal the weapon directly out of the enemy's
hands. Tap X when the struggle for the weapon starts. The enemy must not
be in the middle of an attack while attempting to steal. The best time to
do this is while the enemy is blocking with a weapon.
>> GLADIUS (Normal, Guardian, or Power) or SAI (Roma) <<
The Gladius is the most basic weapon in the game. The Sai can cut off an arm
from an opponent with a charged hit, but still pales in comparison to the
Scimitar.
Moves and combos:
-- X, X, X - Sword slash combo.
-- X, X, toward + X - Sword slash into thrust combo.
-- Toward + X - Forward thrust supra attack. This can be used to finish
opponents off for some extra Salvos or when you need to get a quick strike
on an opponent.
-- Triangle - Throw the Gladius. It will impale an opponent if thrown for the
final hit.
>> MACE (Normal, Power, or Grand) or GERMAN AXE <<
The Mace is the most powerful of the one-handed weapons and can break helmets,
shields, or other weapons rather quickly.
Moves and combos:
-- X, X - Overhead strike into mace uppercut.
-- Toward + X - Overhead smash supra attack. If charged, this will crush an
opponents head for the final strike.
-- X, toward + X - Overhead strike into overhead smash.
>> SCIMITAR (Normal or Power) <<
The Scimitar is easily the most deadly of the one-handed since it can cut off
an arm or head very quickly without even a charged hit.
Moves and combos:
-- X, X, X, X - The main combo for the Scimitar. This combo can easily cut an
arm for your opponent. The many hits of the combo can be charged to
guarantee and amputation.
-- Toward + X - The reaper.
>> MORNINGSTAR and WAR CHAIN <<
This is the ultimate weapon for a crowd since nothing can get to you during the
X swing.
-- X - This will swing the whip around, and can be done continuously as long as
the weapon last. One hit with an X swing while the enemy is stunned will
automatically break an arm.
-- Toward + X - A powerful overhead strike with some pretty good reach. This
will crush an opponents head very easily.
>> MAUL (Normal or Power) <<
Moves and combos:
-- X - Overhead smash. This will crush an opponent's head for the final attack
if charged.
-- Charge X then tap X - This will add an extra hit known as a Tee-Off to the
overhead smash.
-- Toward + X - Maul Thrust. When charged, this move can break an opponent's
arm.
-- Square - Horizontal Strike. If you charge this, it will break an opponent's
arm just like the thrust move.
>> DAGGER (Normal or Claw Shard) <<
Not too useful by itself but it has a most deadly instant behind/stealth kill
that can be performed any time that an opponent staggers.
Moves and combos:
-- Square, Square, Square, Square - the only combo for the dagger. Not too
useful by itself.
-- Square from behind a staggering or weak opponent - This is the dagger's
instant kill move entitled "Stuck Pig". The animation will differ depending
on which gladiator you do this to.
>> MAGNUS SWORD <<
This is where the party's at! This weapon will allow you to totally strip any
opponent of their limbs in seconds.
Moves and combos:
-- X, X - the basic combo. When charged, this move can take out an arm per
slice. If the enemy is weak, the first strike and second strike will either
chop them in half or chop off their head.
the second strike will chop off their head.
-- X, X, toward + X - the above combo with an added jumping overhead strike.
-- Toward + X - Overhead strike.
-- Square - horizontal strike. When charged, this move will almost always cut
off some attachment. If the opponent is staggering it will cut them in half
when charged.
>> SPEAR (Normal, Apollo, Gedo, or Zedo) <<
A powerful weapon with good reach, though not as deadly as the other two-handed
weapons. The spear can be the best weapon for pressuring techniques and can
break an opponents weapon pretty quickly when using its charge supra attack.
Moves and combos:
-- X, X, X, X - basic spear combo
-- Square - Spear strike.
-- Toward + X - Spear thrust supra attack. Do this for the final hit and it
will impale the opponent.
-- Charge Toward + X, tap X - This will impale the opponent and throw them.
The animation will vary depending on the size of the opponent.
-- Triangle - The spear takes a bunch of damage when thrown and will impale an
opponent for the final hit.
>> SHIELD (Roma, German, Parma, Spike, or Guardian) <<
The shields are quite useful, whether you have a weapon in your other hand or
not. The Square, X combo can really help out for pressuring opponents.
Moves and combos (without weapon):
-- Square, X - Agrippa will hit his opponent with the shield and then ram them.
Moves and combos (with weapon):
-- Square, X, X, X (w/Mace) - Agrippa will hit his opponent with the shield and
then start a three hit Mace combo.
-- Square, X, X, X, X (w/Gladius) - Agrippa will hit his opponent with the
shield and then start a four hit Gladius combo.
-- Square, X, toward + X - Same as above, except he will end with the equipped
weapon's supra attack.
-- X, Square - Agrippa can cancel into a shield ram at any time during a normal
weapon combo before the final hit of each combo.
>> ROCK <<
You are totally open to an attack when grabbing a rock and while throwing it,
but a rock hit is a guaranteed weapon drop. Keep that last part in mind.
These are mainly used for loading catapults.
Moves and combos:
-- X - Rock toss.
>> BARREL (Empty or Oil-filled) <<
It can be risky to go after these during an arena battle, but if you manage to
hit an enemy with a barrel full of oil, they will be a sitting duck for a torch
hit. Some barrels do not contain oil though, so it is a gamble. Throw oil-
filled barrels at enemies with torches for some instant fires.
Moves and combos:
-- X - Barrel toss.
>> SLING (Stone or Oil) <<
A sling can be useful from a distance if the enemy sits still long enough, but
for the most part it is totally useless. Preparing to throw a rock from a
sling will leave you wide open to an attack.
Moves and combos:
-- Square - Stone (oil) toss.
>> BOW (Normal or Flame) <<
The bow is good to wear your enemies down with from a distance and for constant
pressure, but it is not too damaging. For the fire bow, it is much like the
regular bow by itself, but if the enemy is consumed in oil, this weapon is
priceless.
Moves and combos:
-- Square - Shoot an arrow.
>> TORCH <<
This weapon is basically useless unless the enemy is consumed in oil. It can
be used to light pools of oil into flames also. It only annoys enemies by
stunning them for a few seconds otherwise.
-- Square - Wave the torch.
>> ROSE <<
Roses are only used to boost your Salvos. You can attack, appeal to the crowd,
or throw a rose to the crowd for some extra Salvos.
Moves and combos:
-- X - Thorns of the Rose. The Rose's "attack".
-------------------
OCTAVIANUS' WEAPONS
-------------------
>> APPLE or STONE <<
These are basically used to get the enemies' attention, but you can also throw
them at the enemies for fun. Sometimes it is required that you throw them.
>> BANANA PEELS <<
Put a banana peel in a foe's path for an instant knock out. The foe will not
notice the banana peel on the ground and will slip on it.
>> JUG, OLIVE OIL POT, HONEY POT, WINE FLASK <<
Strike a guard or foe with this to knock them out. After they are knocked down
Octavianus can steal their clothes or take valuable items from them. The Olive
Oil Pot and Honey Pot can take out multiple foes with the liquid it will leave
on the ground, which will cause them to slip if they pass through it. While in
the maid outfit, Octavianus can carry a jug around freely without being
noticed.
>> DARTS or PENS <<
These are mainly used for distracting your foes. Use the first person button
(R2) for more precise aiming.
>> FROGS or RATS <<
These animals can be used to frighten off maids or waitresses found in the
game. Lay them down with the appropriate direction on the directional pad and
they will move toward the maids or waitresses or throw them in the direction of
the maids or waitresses to make them run.
>> FLOUR <<
This is only found on one stage, and it is extremely useful when combined with
a jug. Tap Square to throw flour at your foes, then strike them with a jug as
they stumble around blindly.

-- FIRST BATTLE --
CITY ARENA -- Practice Round -- Elimination
o-----------------o
Gold - ------
Silver - ------
Bronze - ------
o-----------------o
This first arena battle is designed to get you familiar with the controls.
Agrippa must start without any weapons so you will basically have to take what
you can get when you first start out. Immediately run up and grab the Gladius
and start taking down your opponents. Use Agrippa's ram attack to make the
gladiators drop their weapons or try to use the X button when in close to steal
the weapon right out of their hand when your Gladius breaks. Wear them down
with a weapon, then try to do something special to finish them off as they
stagger. Bash their head in with a supra attack from the mace, suplex them,
throw a weapon at them. Show off with the final hit and appeal to the crowd in
the hope of getting a powerful weapon.
In the second room grab the Shield and use it combined with a smaller weapon to
defeat the gladiator in the back with the bow. Two more gladiators will storm
into the arena from the back. Try not to let them get ahold of any big weapons
if the crowd throws them to you.
In the third room you must kill unarmed prisoners to please the crowd. They
will simply drop to their knees exposing them to a one hit kill or run around
the arena in a panic. The Roman guard to the side can be killed as well if
your bloody frenzy is not satisfied with just the prisoners. When killing the
prisoners, be sure to appeal to the audience to get some better weapons for the
fight ahead. After disposing of the prisoner a big gladiator will come through
the gates. He's not too much of a problem if you have any kind of weapon. The
main move to watch out for is his ram attack, which can be avoided by running
to the side. His Maul swing can be easily avoided by stepping back out of the
way as he starts to swing. Get behind him and hit him if he keeps guarding
your attacks. Defeat him to finish the stage.

-- FOREST OF GERMANIA --
> Germanic Camp
Objective: Mobilize your troops
Break the boxes around the area for a few item pickups. Be sure to grab the
Roma Shield from the set of two boxes off to the side. The helmet inside the
box in the cave is useless since your current helmet is much stronger. Walk
down the path in the upper east portion of the map and talk to the Roman
soldier.
Three barbarians will attack. Wear them down with your current weapon and pick
up one of their weapons when your current weapon breaks. Hit them with the
shield first and then do a weapon combo for some extra hits. If they start to
stagger from weakness, use a charged supra attack for an instant kill with any
weapon.

-- FOREST OF GERMANIA --
> Germanian Forest
Objective: Invade the Germanic Fort and capture their leader
Sneak up behind the first few barbarians down the trail and target them then
throw a weapon at them (Triangle) to take them out quickly. Don't pick up
their weapons, your Gladius is much stronger. Once the bridge next to the
waterfall is reached, get behind the wrecked wagon. Use the R2 button to get
the barbarian up above in your sites and throw your Gladius at him for another
instant kill. There is another barbarian behind the crate to the left side
across the bridge. Make sure you have a weapon before you enter the next area!
Take the meat with you if you do not need it just yet. Climb the ladder and
enter the cave.
> Fort Rear Gate
Stay to the left and sneak up behind the barbarian guarding the front gate.
Crouch behind the trees and he will not notice you. Throw a weapon at him for
an instant kill. If he notices you, two other barbarians will join him and
make getting inside the fort much harder than it should be. He will leave you
with the GERMANIC TRIBE FORT KEY.
> Germanic Tribe Fort
Don't go down the corridor just yet. Wait by the wall and a barbarian will
pass by in the distance. Quietly sneak around the corner and throw a weapon at
him. There is some meat in the crate further around the corner on the left. In
the area where the barbarian came from you will run across one more barbarian.
Once you get further into the fort, your men will storm the camp. At this
point you can either help out your fellow soldiers or run by them. A few
barbarians will stand in your path, but the main threat will come from the
archers up high in the later area. Throw a weapon (preferably and axe) at them
for a one-hit kill. In the second area, try to carry either a Roma Shield or a
piece of meat in your left hand for the battle ahead. Keep moving until you
arrive at a cell that is holding a captured Roman soldier. Do not grab the
meat in the crate just yet if you do not need it. Defeat the barbarian
guarding the cell to get the FORT PRISON KEY. Use the key to open the cell
door.
===============================================================================
> Boss - BARCA
Recommended Weapon: Anything you can get ahold of.
Thanks to the little space you have to maneuver around in, this battle can be
pretty tough your first time through. If your fellow soldiers manage to draw
his attention then hit from the back as he attacks them. His main attack is
his axe swipe, which is blockable if you have a shield. He also has an
overhead strike that he will sometimes do after the first swing. When he
starts his ram attack, run to the sides to avoid it. Try to hit him sparingly
as he recovers from his attacks. Use any weapon that you can find lying on the
ground. It is possible to knock his axe out of his hand, and you can actually
use it if you can grab it quickly - throw a Mace at him to make him drop it,
then grab it quickly. It takes off a good chunk of life if you charge each
swing, but the weapon is very weak in strength causing it to break easily.
Step in and out from his attacks and you should be able make him swing and be
able to avoid it in the process. Attack him while he recovers from each attack
and you'll whittle his life down in no time. After his axe breaks, or after
you steal his axe, he will go for the weapons lying around on the ground. He
is completely open to any type of attack at that time. If you haven't gotten
it before the battle, there is some meat in a wooden crate near the cell and a
Gladius in the other crate.

| |----|_|---------\__ __ _/ OCTAVIANUS \_ __ __/---------|_|----| |
\/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/
-- PANSA'S HOUSE --
Objective: Find a way inside the Senate Storehouse.
You might want to familiarize yourself with the location of Octavianus' Room.
From the area you start, enter the room behind you and jump on top of the
cabinet. Drop out the window and down the boxes to find the door to his room.
You may also want to enter the Storage Area right next to Pansa's House for
some extra coins. Collect the Silver Fortune Coins around the area and head
for the Forum.
Coin Locations
- On the floor to Pansa's left.
- Directly in front of the entrance to Octavianus' Room.
- To the left above the entrance to the Storage Area. Lean against the wall
from the wooden platform of Pansa's House or from the crack in the wall in
the Storage Area (2F).
> Storage Area
Coin Locations
- Climb up the ladder and it will be at the top.
- Lean against the wall after you climb the ladder and it will be at the end
near the exit.
-- THE FORUM --
Talk to the Senator and the guards. It seems that the Roman guards are being
underpaid for their duties...how unfortunate. Leave the Forum area and head
for the Senate Gates
Coin Locations
- As you enter the Forum, turn right and run all the way to the first two small
pillars on the right. Look in between them.
- On top of the speaker platform, to left of the guards and the Senator.
- In front of the doors of the big building in the back.
-- SENATE HOUSE --
> In Front of Senate
Save your game in front of the Senate Storehouse and talk to the guard. If you
did not visit the Forum and talk to the guards, then you will not be able to
get inside. Talk to him and when he asks you to state your business, tell him
"I come bearing important news.", "There's trouble in the Forum.", "The Army's
gone on strike.", It's about negotiations for unpaid wages." Any answer will
suffice for the remainder of questions and he will give you a silver coin.
Enter the Senate Storehouse as he runs away.
Coin Locations
- Persuade the guard to leave and he will give you one.
> Senate Vault
Walk down the left hall and walk behind the crate when the guard enters (you
don't need to duck). After he walks over to the area in the back, go toward
the door that he was guarding and enter. Crouch and move behind the wooden
furniture and follow the guard in the back as he enters the next room (stay
behind him, though not too close). Walk around the side of the bookshelves.
Go to the far side and you will see a door off to the left. Make sure the
guard has his back to you and enter the room. Grab a jug from the table behind
the Senator (O) and strike him with if from behind (X). Stand beside his body
and take his toga (O). While in disguise, you must only walk and you cannot do
any of Octavianus' stealth moves (crouching, walk clinging, running) or you
will arouse suspicion. If you grab an item you must hide it behind your back
(R1 + L1) and keep your front side to each person. Leave the Senate Vault and
walk across the street to the Senate House and talk to the guard.
Coin Locations
- To the right of the first crate off to the right when you first enter.
- On the right side of the room with the three guards.
- Knock out the leftmost guard in the room with the three guards (gold).
Getting the Gold Fortune Coin
This is a pretty hard gold coin to get. The guard on the left side of the room
with the three guards carries it. Don't worry about the first guard that walks
down the corridor. Walk into the room with the Senator, but do not strike him
just yet. Pick up either jug and walk into the area with the pacing guard.
Walk behind the bookshelf and wait till the guard walks toward the door with
the Senator. Strike him when he reaches the door and steal his armor. Drag
the unconscious guard's body behind the bookshelves to the side of the room.
Go back and grab another jug. Walk near the room with the three guards, and
just before you get to the doorway whistle - this will lure the closest guard.
Stand behind the bookshelves and wait until he enters the room and leaves, then
quickly jump out and strike him as he walks back through the doorway. This is
where it gets hard. IMMEDIATELY drag his body behind the bookshelf before the
guards in the other room enter. Run to either room and grab another jug. This
time stand right next to the door entrance and whistle - this will lure another
guard. Hide behind the bookshelf and strike him as he walks away like the last
guard. You will have to hide his body just as quickly as the last guard's body
since the other will come to check out the noise. Now, grab another jug and
strike the other guard to get your gold coin. Go back and strike the Senator
and take his clothes like you normally would do.
> Senate House Courtyard
Walk by the guards and enter the Senate House.
> Senate Hall South
There is a guard guarding the door in which you need to enter. Grab a jug and
stand to the left of the statue and whistle (X + Square) to catch his
attention. As he walks around one side, go around the other and sneak up
behind him and strike him. Take the HALL OF POMPEY KEY and the Gold Fortune
Coin. You can also take his armor if you want. Use the key on the door that
the guard was standing next to.
Coin Locations
- Knock out the lone guard (gold).
> Hall of Pompey
Once you walk down the hall, go into the meeting room and save your game on the
pedestal in the back. Enter through the next door in the hall.
Coin Locations
- On the far left as you enter the Meeting Room
- On the emblem engraved in the floor of the Meeting Room.
- Behind the second torch in the hall.
> Senate Hall North
Duck and peep through the door (L2 + O) to hear a conversation between Cicero
and Marcus. Walk further down the hall until you see some rope to the right.
Wait for the guard to turn his back, pick up the rope, and sneak behind him to
strangle him (press Square, then tap Square). Walk back to the doorway with
the Roman soldier is guarding and sneak up behind him and strange him. Walk
into the Library and strangle the guard behind the left bookshelf. Leave him
behind there. The door in the back has a guard behind it. Stand next to the
vase and whistle to get the guard's attention. Hide in the vase and wait until
he searches and starts to walk off, then jump out of the vase and strangle him.
Inside the room there is letter to Caesar from Vipsanius on the table. Climb
over the wooden closet and open the red door.
> Getting the Gold Fortune Coin
There are two ropes on the pedestal so this shouldn't be too hard. Walk past
the room with Cicero and Marcus and strangle the pacing guard for a Gold
Fortune Coin.
Coin Locations
- Strangle the pacing guard down the hall from the room with Cicero and Marcus
(Gold).
- In the Library on top of the cabinet next to the far left bookshelf.
- On top of the right bookshelf. Climb the left bookshelf and go across the
stone beam to reach the top of the right bookshelf.
- Right next to the table with the letter.
- After viewing the letter, hop onto the cabinet and climb up the side of the
wall. Walk over to the top of the bookcase to find it.

-- THE FORUM --
Objective: Prevent Vipsania's execution.
To start things off, you will have to fight two Roman Soldiers with Spears.
Dash around them and wait for them to strike, then attack them as they recover.
They are very weak so you should be able to take them out rather quickly.
===============================================================================
> Boss - DECIUS
Decius is extremely hard in this battle and will give you little chance to hit
him. The only way to strike him is to hit him directly after one of his
attacks - whether it is his lunge attack or during his combo he will be open
for a slight second. Any other hit, besides a counter, will be deflected by
his Sestuses. Grab the Spear on the ground for a better chance at hitting him.
This battle is one-sided - whether you win by taking 25% of his life or lose by
having him taking all of yours, the outcome will be the same.

-- SYRACUSE PRISON --
> Syracuse Prison Entrance
Objective: Find Vipsanius
Walk down the path ahead and climb on top of the yellowish box near the end.
Climb on top of the rock wall and jump down to the other side. Through the
door you will find all types of utensils for knocking out guards. Grab the
rope and head through the doorway. Duck and hug the railing to make your way
across to the door. There are guards near the windows so be wary. Open the
door and walk over to the doorway on your left. Strangle the guard inside with
the rope (do NOT use a jug) and take his armor. Grab the PRISON KEY 1F on the
table. Open the double doors in the back using the prison key.
Getting the Gold Fortune Coin
Inside the area where you get the Prison Key, the rightmost guard has the coin.
Strangle the first guard in the room next to the key and drag him toward the
rock hall with the door. Stand next to the right of the doorway to the room
and whistle. Hide in the hall and wait for the guards to search around. As
they leave, grab the last one and strangle him with the rope. Drag his body to
the rock hall as well. Whistle again in the same area and strangle the last
guard in the same manner and he will have the Gold Fortune Coin.
Coin Locations
- When you first enter, walk through the right doorway (made of rock) and it
will be inside the prison down the right side.
- Climb on top of the yellowish wooden box and climb onto the rock wall. The
coin will be near the end where you can jump off.
- Once on the other side of the rock wall, it will be in the back on the left
side.
- In the far south of the rock corridor on the west side. Look at the map.
- Knock out the rightmost guard in the room with the key (gold).
> Syracuse Prison 1F
Climb up the crate to the east. In the back, duck down and fall through the
hole in the wall. The first door is locked, but the second is unlocked. Walk
to the second room and pull yourself to the top of the stone platform. Duck
and enter the small crawlspace. After you drop down, unlock the door in the
room and go up the stairs.
Coin Locations
- Behind a small crate in the stack of crates on the east side.
- On the west side behind the furthest rock.
> Syracuse Prison 2F
Walk by the guard and head for the door furthest to the left beside the Break
Room door. The Break Room door is locked for the moment. Stay away from the
guard since he will usually see through your disguise without questioning.
Keep your distance from the prisoners - the first one gets rowdy. There is a
ladder next to the empty cell.
Coin Locations
- In the furthest cell to the right.
- To the left as you step onto the prison walkway.
> Syracuse Prison 3F
Save your game and walk down the hall.

Boss - Roman Soldiers with Flame Bows
Run to the nearest torch and grab it. Hide behind the bridge. One hit from
any arrow will kill Octavianus so you must be sure to take cover often. You
must hit the ropes that hold up the bridge in order to win this battle. Only
step out from the cover of the bridge while they ready another arrow and hit
each rope no more than two times during each trip. You may have to step out
every now and then to get them to fire. It should only take one torch to burn
all four ropes.
===============================================================================
After the battle climb the wooden planks on the wall across the bridge and walk
down the corridor. Open the door to end this segment.
Coin Locations
- Before going across the bridge, look in the back behind the rock on the left.
You will have to run against the camera angle.
- To the right of the bridge before going across it.
- Once on the other side of the bridge, it will be on the floor of the
corridor.

-- SYRACUSE PRISON --
> Syracuse Prison 3F
Objective: Escape Syracuse Prison
First things first, save that game! For the rooms that are to follow in this
segment you will have defeat the Roman guards in your path and protect
Octavianus in the process. If Octavianus dies, you die. All you're basically
doing at this part is backtracking through the rooms Octavianus just visited so
you should know your way through the prison pretty well. Charge through the
door in front of Agrippa and begin your escape. Take the weapons of each
soldier you kill if your current weapon is damaged. The third soldier will
have a shield for you. The gate across the bridge is now open so the stairs to
the second floor can now be reached.
> Syracuse Prison 2F
There are plenty of soldiers here that can be snuck up on so be sure to stealth
kill (target and throw your weapon from a distance) if the option is available.
Start out with a shield hit and then chain that into sword strikes to take out
the Roman soldiers quicker. At the end of the prison kill the guard with the
Spear to get the BREAK ROOM KEY. He also has a Roma Helmet and, of course, his
Spear. The crate to the side contains a piece of Meat. When you leave the
room, be sure to break the large crate at the end of the hall for a Halberd.
Charged X swings with the Halberd will cut the arms of your enemies - a charged
supra attack (toward + X) will do the same thing. Travel down the stairs to
the side.
> Syracuse Prison 1F
The first Roman soldier with the Spear has the CELL BLOCK KEY for the door at
the end. In the next room a soldier with a bow will shoot you from up high as
three other soldiers charge you. Kill the first three quickly and work your
way to the stairs to get rid of the one with the bow. Stay next to the wall
and the soldier with the bow won't be able to hit you. The red door at the top
has a crate with a piece of meat inside. Carry it in your left hand and a
sword in the other if you think you might need it. Go through the double doors
at the top to reach the next area.
> Syracuse Prison Entrance
A soldier to the right will immediately attack once the room is entered. Be
sure to take the right path on your way out and you will be able to surprise a
few guards with a thrown weapon from the back. Run toward the area where
Octavianus started his last mission.
-- FOREST --
Objective: Defeat the Bandits
When the cutscene ends, bandits will attack both Agrippa and Claudia. Don't
worry too much about Claudia, since she is immortal for the moment. Look for
the bandit with the Maul and attack him first. Defeat him and take his Maul.
Use a charged Square swing (or charged supra attack) to break the arms of
whatever enemies are in front of you. Once an enemy is crippled, that will
limit his attacks greatly. Grab a dagger to finish off a staggering bandit
from behind with a throat cut. There is some meat in the crate to the side.
This battle is merely a preview of things to come in the arena.

-- UNDERGROUND ARENA --
Objective: Prove yourself to Sextus
> Round 1 - The basics of one-handed weapons
The first round is designed to get you used to one-handed weapons. You will
start without a weapon and will need to either steal a weapon or break one of
the crates for one. If you get a Scimitar, use charged swings (X or Supra
attack) to chop off the arms of your opponent. Use a charged attack while they
stagger for a special kill. Pick up your enemy's severed head and throw it to
Sextus to show him that you are indeed worthy of becoming a gladiator - you
don't have to, but it doesn't hurt to show off early.
> Round 2 - The basics of two-handed weapons
Two-handed weapons are where the fun begins. A charged swing with any of the
heavier two-handed weapons is basically a guaranteed head/arm crush/cut
depending on the enemies' life. The Spear has the longest range of the two-
handed weapons. It's supra attack can reach incredibly far. Also, try to do a
Tornado Maximus swing with the Halberd for some intense damage.
> Round 3 - The basics of one-handed weapons with shields
A one-handed weapon with a shield can make for a very excellent combination for
one opponent both defensively and offensively. The shield alone is quite good.
Use Square to attack with the shield, then chain into an X attack for some good
combos. For this round, Sextus will want you to perform a Human Catapult
(suplex). Wear your opponent down until he starts to stagger then get behind
him and press Square to grab him. Tap X or Square to suplex him. An enemy can
also be used as a shield after the grab if you do not press any buttons
afterward.
> Round 4 - Impress Sextus with your abilities
Basically the more Salvos (or points) you earn for doing special kills, the
more the crowd (or Sextus in this case) will appreciate your performance.
After doing enough special kills or Salvo moves (see Salvo List), you can
appeal to the crowd (Square + X) to double your Salvo points and possibly get a
more powerful weapon.
> Round 5 - Fight Claudia?
===============================================================================
> Boss - CLAUDIA
For this battle you will only have the option to use a wooden sword. There are
two pieces of meat lying around on the arena floor if you start to run low in
life. Claudia's attacks consist basically of kick combos and an occasional
roll and stab. Wait until she finishes an attack then combo her, or charge a
supra attack as she finishes an attack or kick combo to immediately counter
her. It's good to fight her with a wooden sword in your right hand and a piece
of meat in your other hand so you can take a few victory chomps after knocking
her down. Sextus will throw you a new wooden sword as your first one weakens.

CITY ARENA -- Round I -- Battle Royale
o-----------------o
Gold - 65,000
Silver - 40,000
Bronze - 25,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Kill all of your opponents.
2) Get at least 15,000 Salvos.
Just like the first arena battle, Agrippa will start out without a weapon in
this one as well. The first objective is to retrieve a weapon from somewhere.
The statues on the side near the area where you start hold a Scimitar and a
Mace, and the background statues hold a Maul and Halberd. The crowd will toss
a few weapons into the arena at the beginning as well. Try to ram an opponent
to make him drop his weapon or steal it right from his hands. Once you get a
weapon, I would recommend going to one of the statues in the back and getting
either the Maul or the Halberd from either statue (break it). Once you get
ahold of either one, use it to wound your enemies so they can't fight back too
well (break their arms). Try to go for the big gladiators first. Look for any
weak opponents and take them out with a charge attack for a special kill, then
appeal to the crowd. The hardest part about this battle is getting a weapon,
but if you manage to get a big weapon and wound some of the other gladiators
then this round is yours.
Gold Ranking Strategy
Salvos, Salvos, Salvos! You will need to perform many different types of Salvo
moves in order to get a gold ranking here. From the start, go over to the
Scimitar statue immediately and break it as fast as you can. Use the Scimitar
to cut off the limbs of any gladiator that comes up to you. Appeal to the
crowd with their head or throw their arms into the crowd if you there aren't
too many opponents around you. Once the Scimitar breaks, find a Maul or
Halberd - hopefully, the crowd has thrown one by now, if not, then get one from
the statues in the back. Use a staggering opponent as a shield if you find one
limping around the arena. Use the bigger weapon to start breaking or cutting
off arms. Stomp your opponents as they roll in agony to boost your Salvos. Do
not break the big guys helmets! You will need those helmets to boost your
Salvos once they die. If the audience throws a rose, grab it and appeal to
them with it for three times the Salvo points. Pick up a Scimitar when your
opponents get really weak and start chopping off heads. Try equipping
different types of helmets and weapons for some extra Salvo points (See Salvo
List).
CITY ARENA -- Round II -- Elimination
o-----------------o
Gold - 65,000
Silver - 40,000
Bronze - 25,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Defeat all of your opponents.
Start out with whatever weapon of your choosing and immediately run up and hit
the gladiator with the shield. Knock him down, then run and climb the ladder.
Defeat the female gladiator or make her get down off the platform. Get rid of
her on the ground if she climbs down and take out the male gladiator with the
shield as well. On the other side, there is a big gladiator with a Halberd and
normal size gladiator in the back. Run to the other side and try to get up the
ladder as best you can. If the gladiators knock you off, hit them and run back
to the ladder. Get to the top and make the female gladiator retreat or kill
her. If you are weaponless when you make it to the top, then ram her, steal
the bow and climb back down. After both females have been disposed of the rest
shouldn't be much of a problem. Appeal to the crowd and they may throw you a
Magnus Sword, which will help out greatly. Wound the big guy and he shouldn't
bother you too much.
Gold Ranking Strategy
Start the battle without a weapon. Run up to the male gladiator and grab his
weapon and knock him down with it. Climb the ladder and defeat the female,
then get rid of the male below. Run to the other side and climb the ladder to
get rid of the other female gladiator. Knock the other opponents around and
perform as many Salvos as you can. Appeal to the crowd and they should throw
you a Magnus Sword if you have done enough bloodshed. Use a charged X, X combo
with the Magnus Sword to totally amputate the limbs of whatever enemy is in
front of you and stomp on him as he falls. Do the same to a second enemy. If
you cut off his head then quickly grab it and appeal to the crowd. They should
throw a second Magnus Sword by then. Chop down the rest of the gladiators with
what is left. If you take off any arms then smack the enemy with one and throw
the arm into the crowd afterwards. The key to a gold ranking lies in the
Magnus Sword for this round.
CITY ARENA -- Round III -- Beast Hunt
o----------------o
Gold - 9,000
Silver - 5,000
Bronze - 3,000
o----------------o
Requirements:
1) Finish off all the beasts.
As long as you have a weapon, this battle should be a piece of cake. Start out
with whichever weapon of your choosing and slash away at the tigers. Make sure
to keep an eye on their actions. If they jump back, they are about to lunge at
you so be ready to dodge. Try to work on one at a time and you should be able
to take them out pretty quickly. Appeal to the crowd after performing a few
Salvo moves and they will throw a spear to you.
Gold Ranking Strategy
Start the battle without a weapon as usual. The crowd will throw a Gladius to
you right at the starting before the tigers even start attacking. Grab the
Gladius and perform combos and charge attacks to boost your Salvos. After
performing enough Salvo moves, appeal to the crowd and they will throw you a
Spear. Throw your current weapon at a tiger and grab the Spear. Combo and
charge attack with the Spear as you did with the Gladius. If you appeal to the
crowd after some more Salvo moves they might throw a Maul to you, which will
open up a whole new set of Salvo moves for you to obtain. Be careful when
attacking with the Maul however since the attacks are very slow and will leave
you open to a tiger lunge.

-- PANSA'S HOUSE --
Objective: Find a way inside of the Senate House and search for Cicero
Make your way to the Forum.
Coin Locations
- On the wooden area overlooking the streets of Pansa's House.
- Inside the room that allows you to jump through the window to get to
Octavianus' Room, at the foot of the bed.
- As you lean against the wall when coming out of the space that leads to
Octavianus' Room, the coin will be by the higher area across from the
merchant.
> Storage Area
- In the area with all the rats near the ladder.
- On the wooden platform above the rats. After climbing the ladder, lean
against the wall and cross the board.
-- CITY GATES --
> Merchant's Area
- Inside the pub next to the right counter.
- Right in front of the stolen goods merchant (To get back there to him, you
will need to lean against the wall near the middle of the area (west side),
by some boxes and squeeze behind some buildings).
- Up above the merchant in the middle area (east side) (You will have to climb
a box to the left of the merchant).
> City Gates
- As you enter, it will be to the far east.
- Look for a space in between the left and middle corridor right before the
exit.
- Beside the women on the second floor of the east house (throw a frog or rat
near them to get it).
-- THE FORUM --
Talk to the citizen to the west as you enter the Forum. After talking to him,
you need to speak to the people, so go to the soupbox...er, speaker platform
and walk to the edge and press O to talk to the people. Convince them to storm
the Senate House. There are a variety of speeches you can use to enact them
into doing so. Talk to the Senator with the beard afterwards to get a Silver
Coin. Leave and go to the Senate House.
Coin Locations
- On the west side of the entrance wall.
- In the far east right before you exit next to a pillar.
- Up the stairs, behind the third pillar from the left.
- After talking to the people and getting them to leave, talk to the Senator
with the beard.
-- SENATE HOUSE --
> In Front of Senate
Just look at the mess you've made! Why someone could sneak right into
the...exactly! Sneak inside the Senate via the door off to the left as you
enter this area.
> Front Garden
Objective: Follow Cicero
For the following areas, if Cicero sees you, then the game is over. Follow
behind Cicero but keep your distance and stay hidden behind the hedge (crouch).
After the first cutscene stay out of the Senator's site and follow Cicero into
the building.
Coin Locations
- In the far east behind a tree. You will have to sneak past the two guards to
get it. Be sure to get it before following Cicero or the Senator will make
getting to it that much harder.
- Next to the first crate as you walk toward Cicero, there is a path inside the
hedge. Crouch and follow it to the back to find a coin.
- On the side of the building Cicero enters, in an alcove. You'll have to
climb up to it.
> Senate Hall West
Walk down the hall a little ways and go to the door on the south side closest
to you.
Coin Locations
- In the room where you first start, in front of the first set of seats.
- In the room where you first start, behind the podium.
> Senate Hall South
Go to the room off to the east (to the left of where you enter) and grab the
toga from the closet on the right side (open it) upon entering the room. Go
around the west side when you follow Cicero or else he will see you. In either
room, to the north or south of his meeting room, climb the bookcase (south room
only) and listen to his conversation through the air duct. Go back to the
Senate Hall West after the cutscene.
Coin Locations
- Check the closet of the room to the south of Cicero's meeting place.
- On top of the bookcase (climb it) in the room to the south of Cicero's
meeting place.
> Senate Hall West
Follow Cicero, but keep your distance. In fact, don't even stay in the same
hall as him. He cannot get ahead of you so don't worry about keeping up with
him. Grab one of the jugs in the room off to the side and use it to take the
pacing guard's helmet and armor. Walk to the room that Cicero entered.
Coin Locations
- Knock out the guard with the helmet in the room with the three guards (gold).
Getting the Gold Coin
You must strike the pacing guard with a jug and drag his body to the room in
the north and hide it. Grab the other jug and go to the corner right before
you turn to go down the hall next to the room with the three guards. The guard
with the helmet has the Gold Coin. In order to get it, stand in the corner and
whistle. Two of the guards will come to check out the sound. The one with the
helmet will stay behind if you let him see you in the distance (hide the jug).
Wait until the other guard returns to the room - back down the hall just enough
to where the guard with helmet will turn around and go back to the room with
his buddies. Walk as fast as you can and strike him from behind. IMMEDIATELY
take the Gold Coin from his body and run back to the other room with the
unconscious guard since the other guards will enter the hall. If you do this
quick enough, they will not see you.
> Hall of Pompey
Walk toward the meeting room on the left.

CITY ARENA -- Round IV -- Team Battle
o-----------------o
Gold - 25,000
Silver - 15,000
Bronze - 10,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Break all the opposing team's stone statues before the time limit expires
and before they destroy your team's statues.
For this round you will have to work as a team with a fellow gladiator and
break the statues of the opposing team. You are required to break three red
statues. If you cut off any of the enemies' arms during this battle then that
is automatic defeat, since they are required to pull levers. Take advantage of
this to quickly dispose of surrounding enemies once you get ahold of a big
weapon.
Start the battle with whichever weapon of your choosing. Approach the smaller
gladiator on your team and get him to follow you by pressing O near him. Climb
up the ladder and go across the platform to the next ladder. By the time you
reach the bottom of the next ladder, the other team should be approaching the
ladder that you just got of. Knock them around a little while your partner
runs over to the switch. When the gate around the statue lowers, start
pounding away on it. After it is destroyed appeal to the crowd and they might
throw a bigger weapon to you. If they throw a Halberd that is great, but if
they throw a Maul, that is perfect! The Maul can take out a statue in two hits
if you hit it with two charged overhead (X) strikes. Climb up the next ladder
and walk to the end of the platform next to the ladder at the end. Your
partner should automatically climb down the ladder and tend to the switch at
the bottom. If the other team starts to climb the ladder then knock them back
down as they reach the top. Destroy the statue when the gate lowers and get
down the ladder. Run toward the back, and your partner should head toward the
last switch. Fight off the other gladiators as best you can and destroy the
last statue once the gate lowers. If your opponents stay right on top of you,
move around the statue so that their attacks might just help to destroy their
own statue for you.
Gold Ranking Strategy
Start without a weapon and appeal to the crowd at the beginning and they should
throw you one. Use the same strategy as above, but change your weapon once you
have performed enough Salvo moves with your current weapon. Be sure to knock
the enemies off the ladders as they try to climb them. You may have to take a
break from destroying the statues to focus on defeating your foes in order to
boost your Salvos. The good part about fighting them is that they tend to
focus on getting by you instead of fighting back. Appeal to the crowd often
and they should keep you supplied with weapons.
CITY ARENA -- Round V -- Siege
o-----------------o
Gold - 65,000
Silver - 35,000
Bronze - 20,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Break into the enemy fortress and defeat the leader.
There is a catapult that you can use off to the side to break the gate or fire
at an enemy. I would recommend choosing the Gladius to start off with. At the
beginning, run up to the mud pool and grab the hidden rock in the middle. Make
your way to the catapult and launch a rock at the gate. Grab another rock from
the mud pool on the left and walk up to the big guy with the Halberd and throw
it at him. This will make him drop his Halberd. Grab the Halberd and chop off
his arms. Grab one of the rocks and make your way back to the catapult once
again and try to hit the archer at the top. Dispose of the gladiator to the
right as well and make your way through the gate. One of the first two
gladiators will have the key to the locked gate off to the side. Defeat him
and use the key that he drops on the keyhole on the side of the wall beside the
gate to unlock it. There is a piece of meat lying on the ground on the other
side. Soon some gladiators with Spears will come through the door after you.
This is where things can get ugly. Try to steal one of their Spears or throw a
rock at them to make them drop it. Keep the Spears away from them and defeat
them quickly. Use a straggling gladiator as a shield if you must.
Climb the ladder and defeat the female gladiator if you haven't gotten rid of
her yet. If she has run out of arrows she will try to climb down the ladder
and retrieve a weapon. Try to block her off from the ladder. Climb down the
ladder on the other side and a gladiator with a Spear will be blocking your
path. He always tries to throw his Spear at you. Grab the Spear from the
ground after he throws it and finish him off with it. At the top of the next
ladder will be the leader. This is not an ordinary female gladiator - she will
hardly ever tire or weaken. Chopping off her arm will not really do any good
as she will only use a one-handed weapon anyway and her kicks are her most
deadly attacks. Be careful about attacking her when she is on the ground since
she will sometimes do a spinning kick as she gets up. If she tries to run and
get a weapon from near the beginning, wait for her to come back and knock her
off the ladder as she makes her way back toward you.
Gold Ranking Strategy
This is a hard one to get a gold ranking in. You will have to perform every
Salvo you can think of for a gold on this one. Since the weapons are limited
to a Halberd, Gladius, and Spear for the most part, that can be a little hard.
If you manage to chop off a head with the Halberd at any time, then by all
means, pick it up and appeal to the crowd with it. Start the battle with
either the bow or with no weapon. If you start with the bow, then get on the
left side of the fortress and shoot the big guy near the gate until you run
out. Grab the rock from the middle mud pool and throw it at him and grab his
Halberd when he drops it. Cut off an arm and stomp him while he's on the
ground. Hit him with some rocks a few more times to gain another Salvo. After
he's gone, carry a rock to the catapult and destroy the gate. Try to find
another rock and aim for the archer up above and launch the rock at her. When
the gladiators with Spears enter the arena, try to weaken one of the other
gladiators and use him as a human shield. Steal one of the Spears and weaken
the gladiators. Try to finish each one of them off with something different.
Throw a weapon, suplex, stab them with a Gladius, or cut them half with a
Halberd. Make sure to do at least one Tornado Maximus with the Halberd as
well. Knock either the archer or the leader off of a ladder while they climb
up or down for an extra Salvo. If you do not have over 50,000 Salvos by the
time you climb the first ladder, you will have a very difficult time achieving
a gold ranking in this battle. Stun the leader at the end and drag her to the
ladder (put your back to the ladder) and suplex her off for a good bit of
points. Last but not least, throw a weapon at the audience.
CITY ARENA -- Round VI -- Boss Battle
o-----------------o
Gold - 10,000
Silver - 6,000
Bronze - 4,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Defeat Barca.
===============================================================================
Boss - BARCA
Recommended Weapon: Your choice (the Magnus Sword will pulverize him if you can
get it from the audience).
Exclusive Salvos
(thanks to KaraPitchou for the additional info on Salvo #154)
-- Goal!! (#151) - Destroy a pillar by having Barca kick a rock toward it.
Hide behind a pillar as he runs toward a rock so he will kick it at the
pillar.
-- Stone's Throw Away (#152) - To get this one, Barca must throw a rock toward
you and destroy a pillar. If he doesn't grab one, toss a rock to him.
Stand in front of the pillar then dodge to the side quickly or stand behind
the pillar.
-- The End of Pompei (#153) - All the pillars in the arena must be destroyed.
It's best to lead him toward them and let him destroy each pillar.
-- Rock-Solid Dodge (#154) - Dodge a rock kicked by Barca. Dodge the rock by
stepping to the side using the left analog and it will eventually give you
credit for it. *UPDATE* Stay really close to him as he kicks the rock then
step to the side and this will work every time. The closer you are, the
better.
-- The Old Switcheroo (#155) - Make him lay his weapon down or knock it out of
his hand and grab it off the ground. The best way to do this is to throw a
rock toward him and grab his weapon when he drops his axe to catch the rock.
You can knock it out of his hand by throwing weapons at him, but he doesn't
drop it too often this way. Make sure to do this near the beginning of the
battle, before he breaks his axe.
He will usually start the battle by running to the nearest rock on the ground
and will proceed to kick it toward you. Keep running or step to the side to
avoid this. It is best to let him finish his kicking frenzy before bothering
to attack him. You can pick up a rock and hit him with it, but he must be in
the middle of one of his attacks or you must interrupt one of his rock kicks.
It's best to try for at least one rock hit on him to boost your salvos.
For this battle you need to utilize, what I like to call, the "step-in, step-
out" technique that you used in the first battle. Barca will try to swipe you
with his axe each time you get in close to him and will take a few seconds to
recover from each swing - that is your cue to combo him or smack him with a
charged hit. Target him and get in close. The moment you see him readying his
attack, step out, and hit him as he recovers. A normal two hit combo, charged
attack, or charged combo attack will work nicely. Watch out for his ram attack
while attacking him. As soon as he kneels down to start the ram, release your
targeting and run to the side to avoid the attack. If you ever need to break a
statue for a weapon during the fight, stand behind the statue and let him
destroy it while he tries to hit you. This will help to break his weapon
faster and keep you from doing too much work.
When his weapon is broken, he will ram the nearest pillar and use the pillar to
attack you. While he is equipped with the pillar he will have much more reach
when compared to the axe. The pillar swing is unblockable so you will have to
avoid it. The same method still applies to this part of the battle, but you
will have to be much more careful because he steps in slightly right before
each swing to increase the already long reach of the pillar. He has an
overhead attack, which he will rarely do usually after a pillar swing or if you
get too close to him. Each two hit attack or charged attack that you get on
him while he recovers from a swing will cause him to drop the pillar. If you
can manage to get ahold of a Magnus Sword during the second part of this battle
you can really tear him up with charged swings at just about any time. When he
has 25% of his second to last bar left and is nearing his final bar, you can
take advantage of this, and get behind him as he staggers and perform a suplex.
This can be done any time that you can manage to get behind him when his life
it low. The suplex will take about 25% of his life, and the crowd will love
you for it!
Gold Ranking Strategy
It is incredibly easy to get a gold ranking on this round without even really
trying. Start without a weapon and grab a rock and toss it to him. Grab his
weapon when he drops it. Hit him a few times with it and throw the weapon at
him. Pick up another rock and try to time it so that you throw it right before
he kicks a rock and it will hit him. Destroy all four pillars by doing it
yourself or having him do it for you. Appeal to the crowd after enough Salvos
have been achieved and they should throw you a Magnus Sword. He easily falls
prey to Magnus Sword attacks so show no mercy in hitting him. Make sure to
suplex him when he is low in life to boost your Salvos greatly.

-- TAVERN AREA --
> In Front of the Tavern
As you start, you will notice a citizen in the back will trip over a banana
peeling. Hey, that sounds like a good idea! Pick up the banana peel and take
it with you just in case. The Tavern is in the center of the map, but the guy
at the front door will not let you in and a swarm of bees guard the back door.
There is a fellow Roman trying, ever so graciously, to deliver honey to the
tavern through the back door, but the bees stop him from entering. The strange
thing is that he keeps attempting it and will not use the front door. Watch
the way he walks to the door and place that banana peel in his path next to the
door (D-pad right). He will trip on the banana peel and drop the honey pot.
The bees will fly away from the Tavern entrance to get the honey. Problem
solved! If you accidentally cause him to slip too early, wake him up and he
will go to get another honey pot.
Coin Locations
- Behind a counter in the far west.
- Near the center of the map, to the left of a torch.
> Tavern
Open the door and walk into the seating area. After the cutscene, crouch and
walk up to the booth in front of you. Stay right against the booth and let it
guide you around the corner to the kitchen. Keep an eye on the waitress in the
back while sneaking and make sure that she is not facing the booth.
This part can be a little tricky if you do it the correct way or the other way.
Pick up the rat in the kitchen and go back to the area right beside the booth
that you circled to get into the kitchen. You can get pretty close to the
table (while standing) without the Senators seeing you. Use the R2 button to
aim and wait for the waitress to walk over to the lone Senator's table in the
distance. Toss the rat at her, and she will get scared and run off. Don't
worry, even if she runs into you, she will not notice you. Go back to the
kitchen and look behind the counter. There is a crawlspace under the counter
that you can crawl under. Follow that path (stay up against the counter) and
you will reach Marcus' table. The only time you have to worry about the
bartender's point of vision is right when you enter the counter area from the
kitchen and while you sneak around the other side of the counter. He cannot
see you from the kitchen at all.
Alternate way
You can easily wait for the waitress to walk away from the counter on her way
to either Senator's table and walk directly by her. The camera angle is
unfriendly once the counter is reached however, so it is best to watch her from
the kitchen. You will likely miss out on the rest of the overheard
conversation this way though since you will have to rush.
Coin Locations
- Right next to the booth that the Senators are sitting at when you first enter
the seating area. It will be to the left of the booth on the side that you
start from.
- As you crawl out from under the bar counter it will be to your right.

-- TRAINING FACILITY --
> Gladiator's Dorm
Go to Sextus' Room to start the next set of arena rounds. If you talk to Dama,
show him the courtesy of remembering his name. The "Average" rounds of the
Underground Arena battles are now unlocked.
NORTHERN ARENA -- Round I -- Rescue
o-----------------o
Gold - 35,000
Silver - 25,000
Bronze - 15,000
o-----------------o
1) Rescue the prisoner.
2) Escort the prisoner back to the entrance safely.
For this round, you will have to find a male hostage, free him from his cage,
and lead him back to the beginning. When starting this battle, be sure to
choose the Maul. At the start, lure the little guy toward you so you don't
have to deal with the blades while defeating him. After he is taken out, use
the Maul charged overhead smash (X) to take out each of the rotating blades.
It should only take one hit. Go through the door and defeat the next
gladiator. There are two pieces of meat in the area behind him. Through the
next doorway there are two more gladiators. One of them has a Maul. Try to
beat both of them without using the Maul. Leave the Maul in the area where
that gladiator that equipped it was standing. Go up either ladder and take
care of the two gladiators with the slings. The gladiator next to the cage has
the key. Defeat him and unlock the cage. You will need to talk to the hostage
to get him to follow you. Once you go to leave, a big gladiator and several
normal size gladiators will come through the door in the back. Pick up that
Maul that I told you to set down earlier and break all of their arms. They
will try to go after the hostage, but you should be able to take them down
quickly if you wound them badly. Go back toward the door that leads to the
beginning and several small enemies will ambush you. Take them out with
whatever weapons you have left and get back to the beginning.
Gold Ranking Strategy
Be sure to pick the Maul to start out with. After defeating the small enemy,
destroy the rotating blades just like above. Pick up a rock and carry it into
the next room and toss it at the gladiator. Try to weaken him and kill him
with a throat cut from a dagger. Go back and get the Maul and continue
normally. Use the Mace at the top of the platform to bash a head in for some
more Salvos. You should be able to get just enough points without trying too
hard. Toss all the weapons into the crowd once all the enemies are gone to
gain some extra Salvos near the end.
NORTHERN ARENA -- Round II -- Elimination
o-----------------o
Gold - 70,000
Silver - 40,000
Bronze - 25,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Defeat all of your opponents in each room.
This round can be a pain if this is your first time through, but if you can
manage to get just the right weapons from the audience it shouldn't be too bad.
Choose to start the battle with the Morning Star. The gladiator at the
beginning will pose little threat. In the room to the southwest (look at your
map), you will face a smaller enemy and a big gladiator. You will have a
choice of two rooms for this arena, but you will have to beat the contents of
both. I would highly recommend starting with the southwest room first since it
is the most deadly room. This room contains a spike trap, which the enemies
can knock you into for a one-hit instant death. DO NOT stand in between the
spike pits. Try to always have your back to a wall. Focus on the smaller
gladiators at first since they will follow you more quickly. Run around the
area and lead them away from the bigger gladiators. Hopefully the audience
will throw you a Magnus Sword, which will let you take out the big guys with
ease. There is a piece of meat in the middle of the room. Once you have
defeated all of your opponents in this room grab the meat along with a weapon
and head for the next room.
In the other room you will fight two smaller enemies, two normal size enemies,
and two bigger enemies. Try to take out the small enemies first since they
will annoy you the whole time if you try to attack the bigger guys before them.
The small enemies should fall rather quick depending on the weapon you are
using.
Gold Ranking Strategy
Start off with the Morning Star. Just like the arena battles before, you will
have to take out the enemies in several ways to boost your Salvos. The good
thing about this round is that the audience and gladiators will bring in
several varieties of weapons so you can do tons of moves to boost your points.
Be sure to use human shields and throw items to the crowd to really get your
points up. Always kill in different ways and appeal to the audience with
heads. The Magnus Sword will help you greatly as well.
NORTHERN ARENA -- Round III -- Battle Royale
o-----------------o
Gold - 20,000
Silver - 12,000
Bronze - 7,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Kill all of your opponents.
2) Get at least 5,000 Salvos.
Your opponents will basically kill each other in this round, which can be good
and bad. Empty barrels and barrels full of oil are spread throughout the area
along with a few torches. It is not required to set an enemy on fire - you can
easily get the required Salvos by killing your enemies in other ways. Start
the match out with a Gladius and a Torch. It's a little risky to go for the
barrels as the other gladiators will easily grab your weapons. If you can
manage to find an opponent with a torch, toss the barrel toward him for an
instant barbecue if the barrel contains oil. When you throw a barrel, if it
makes a oil puddle on the ground, you can run up to the oil puddle and wave the
torch next to it to make it burst into flames. Sometimes your opponents will
actually run through the flames and catch on fire. If you manage to get ahold
of a big weapon, use it to wound all the gladiators. After wounding them
badly, you can go for some creative kills to boost your Salvos.
Gold Ranking Strategy
Start out with the Gladius and the Torch. Right when the battle starts, run to
the barrel to Agrippa's left and throw it at the female gladiator. Use your
Torch to quickly set her on fire and attack her as she burns. Try to kill all
the enemies in a variety of ways with the different weapons spread across the
arena and you shouldn't have any problem. The enemies like to kill each other
quickly so try not to let an opponent steal a kill from you. Search for
gladiators that carry torches when you pick up the barrels.

Objective: Follow Marcus and Cassius
Walk past the Senators and go down the stairs.
> Insulae
Walk down the street to the left. At the second intersection there will be a
bandit off to the right side. Find a banana peel. There is one in the tall
building and the smaller building. There is a crate next to the smaller
building that you can hide in as well. Stand in the street midways in between
the intersection and the crate, place the banana peel there, and whistle. Hide
inside the crate, and the bandit will trip on the banana peel when he comes to
check out the noise. Steal his clothes and hide his body in the tall building.
You can easily take out the other bandit down the street the same exact way.
For the pacing bandit down the street, you can easily just lay a banana peel in
his path to take care of him. Grab his mask, you will need it. Approach the
two bandits at the end and do not respond to his question - choose "..." and he
will let you pass. Walk down the path to end this part.
Getting the Gold Fortune Coin
The final bandit that guards the route will have the Gold Fortune Coin. In
order to get it you will have to take out many of the bandits in the area,
especially the one next to him - whistle and lead him out to a banana peel.
For the bandit guarding the route, grab a jug before you talk to him. Keep it
concealed behind your back as you answer him. Answer him correctly and walk
down the other path backwards while facing him. After he tells you to "Wait!",
he will get back to his post. Sneak up behind him and strike him to get the
Gold Coin. He will not move from his post, so you cannot use a banana peel.
Coin Locations
- On the second floor hall of the tall building in the north of the map.
- Go down the walkway under the middle building and it will be to the right as
you exit the walkway.
- On your way around the corner after passing the final bandit, it will be at
the end of the walkway to the right.

NORTHERN ARENA -- Round IV -- Team Battle

Silver - 20,000
Bronze - 10,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Break all the opposing team's stone statues before the time limit expires
and before they destroy your team's statues.
For this statue-breaking round, appeal to the crowd often and you might just
get a Halberd. If you do, and the opposing team is in your sight, run up to
them and chop off their arms to slow down their team's progression a little.
Choose to start out with whichever weapon you want, and have the big guy follow
you at the beginning. Climb the ladder and start with the statue on the right.
The little red gladiator from the opposing team may interrupt but concentrate
on taking the statue down. Defeat the little gladiator after destroying the
statue. After the little gladiator is beaten, run toward the statue in the
middle up the ramp. Try to break it quickly, then run back down the ramp and
go the opposite way. You will eventually run into the next statue. While
breaking this one, keep an eye on the ladder behind you - if see any enemy
climbing it then knock him back down. After taking out that statue climb down
the ladder to the enemy team's side. There is a Gladius in the back behind the
archways below the platform. Take out the statue quickly and don't worry as
much about the enemies.
Gold Rank Strategy
This is a hard round to get a gold ranking in. A little bit of luck is
involved with this one. Make sure to start without a weapon. Appeal to the
crowd at the beginning to boost your Salvos to about 1,600. Grab a Gladius
from one of the sides (below the archway or around the side of the ladder) and
get up the ladder quickly. Run straight ahead and the team should be running
toward the middle statue. Follow them and fight them. Stay right on top of
them and try to keep them from breaking that statue. Use one of them as a
shield if you to. After you kill them, you should be able to appeal to the
crowd for a Halberd. Use the Halberd to chop off the next two enemies arms as
they try to reach the middle statue. Be sure to throw one of the arms to the
audience. Go over to the statue right next to the ladder that leads to their
side and knock them back down as they try to climb up. Knock them back down
with an arm if one lands on the ground next to you. Go ahead and start
breaking the opposing teams statues as quickly as you can. Try to use a
Gladius and save the Halberd for the other team. The audience should throw you
another Halberd if you do well once your current one it exhausted. When you go
to break the final statue on the enemy's side, try to defeat as many enemies as
you can when they rush out of the doorway to guard their statues. Only one
will enter the arena at a time, so you can easily defeat them. Make sure to
watch the time and look for the number of statues your team has left. Start
breaking the enemy statue once the clock reaches 40 seconds.

Requirements:
1) Get at least 20,000 Salvo Points.
2) Kill more enemies than your rival in the time slot provided.
Simply put, this arena battle is incredibly fun! In order to win you will have
to achieve the required Salvo amount and get more kills than your rival in the
process. You and your rival cannot hit each other during this battle so focus
only on the enemies (or your prey). Start with the Scimitar and use charge
attacks to start chopping arms off of enemies. Deliberately steal kills from
your rival if you see her beating up on another gladiator. Make extra use of
the traps spread around the area if you see an enemy underneath them. Strike
the gong on either of the four sides to send the masher down on top of some
unlucky soul. You can also use the traps to stop your opponent if you see her
underneath one. Be careful when running underneath each trap - it can mash you
as well if an enemy hits it. If you do well enough, and appeal to the audience
they will throw you a Magnus which will greatly improve your success. The
moment you see that Magnus Sword, be sure to rush and get it before anyone
else. Use a charged X, X combo to amputate both limbs on an enemy instantly.
Gold Ranking Strategy
Basically do everything that I have listed above. Start with the Scimitar, and
go for the enemies' arms and heads. The Magnus Sword and Scimitar will be your
best friend for this battle. Anytime you chop off a head, be sure to pick it
up and appeal to the crowd with it. Beat your enemies with an arm, throw their
arms or heads into the audience, stomp on them while they yell in agony from
severed body parts, suplex them, chop them in half...be a real animal, or a
true Berserker!

Requirements:
1) Kill all of your opponents.
For the first part of this battle do not use any of the catapults or items in
the boxes. Take out the other gladiators as you normally would and prepare for
a boss fight.
===============================================================================
Boss - VALCROSS ARCANUS
Recommended Weapon: Spear
Exclusive Salvos
-- Rock On (#156) - Attack a stone pillar with a catapult.
-- For the Birds (#157) - Destroy 10 birds during the battle.
-- Sniper Shot (#158) - Hit Arcanus while she is on top of a pillar. Target
and throw a weapon at her. A rock from a catapult will not count.
-- Rock Smasher (#159) - Destroy a stone pillar during the fight. Use the
catapults.
-- World Class Rock Smasher (#160) - Destroy all the stone pillars during the
fight. Again, use the catapults.
-- Tag Team Ultimas (#162) - Hit Arcanus while Claudia is hitting her. It's
best to hit her on the ground after Claudia knocks her down.
-- Splitting Headache (#163) - Destroy Arcanus' helmet. Do this before Claudia
does it. Use a Maul overhead strike if the audience throws it to you.
-- Fried Chicken (#164) - Get ahold of one of Arcanus' bows and shoot a dead
vulture while it is on the ground in a pool of flammable liquid. Kill a
vulture and then make it to where another vulture drops a barrel on the dead
one, then shoot the dead vulture with a flame arrow.
Be sure to keep an eye on the vultures during this entire battle once the
actual boss battle starts. Sometimes they will carry barrels and rocks toward
you and try to drop them on you. The liquid inside the barrels is flammable so
if Arcanus shoots you after you have been hit you will catch on fire. The best
time to take down the vultures is when they prepare to attack you and Claudia.
A Gladius will work ok, but a Maul will really work wonders for taking out the
vultures. Claudia will help you out during this entire battle. Don't worry
about protecting her since she is immortal for the time being.
At the beginning of the battle, Arcanus will jump around the area and shoot
arrows at you. If you are quick enough you can get a few hits in before she
starts with the pillar hopping. Soon she will jump to the pillars and will
fire arrows down upon you. Sometimes the arrows will cause the ground to burst
into flames if the vultures have dropped some oil nearby. While she is on top
of the pillars fight off any vultures that are attacking you, and make your way
to a catapult. Put a rock on the catapult and target her for some major
damage. If you have problems while trying to hit her then just take out the
pillars, and this will make the battle much easier. If you can manage to knock
the bow out of her hands during the battle, you can grab it and use for
yourself. While she is on the ground you can basically hack and slash her as
much as you like, but be sure to look out for the vultures and her arrows. If
she gets dizzy or kneels over you can suplex her. Add a little insult to injury
for the final hit by throwing a Spear or Gladius at her to impale her.
Gold Ranking Strategy
Unlike the last boss battle you will need to get many of your Salvos points
from the actual Salvos list exclusive to this boss battle. Start out with
either no weapon or the Spear. Try to get as many Salvos moves as you can on
your first three opponents since you want be able to get some of them later.
The best thing to do is get ahold of the Maul that one gladiator has and break
some arms and heads. When the actual boss fight begins you will need to start
performing many of the exclusive boss Salvos moves. Don't be in a hurry to
destroy the pillars since you will run the risk of Claudia breaking Arcanus'
helmet before you. Use the catapult to destroy only a few pillars, and to hit
her at least one time. Use the Maul's overhead smash when the audience throws
it to you for your best chance at breaking her helmet. Destroy as many
vultures as you can and throw a weapon at Arcanus while she is on a pillar to
boost your Salvos. Be sure to stomp on her if Claudia knocks her to the ground
for the Tag Team Ultimas Salvo. Throw a rose to the crowd or at Arcanus
(appeal to the audience with it first) and throw a weapon into the crowd for
some more Salvos. End the battle by doing at least one suplex to her and throw
something at her for the last hit if you haven't done it already with one of
the first three gladiators.

attention. Quickly run back to the save room and let the guard pass by you
outside. You might be able to get both of them to come into the room if you
whistle close enough. Walk fast around the corner and into the hall when he
(or they) passes (or pass) by. Climb on top of the wall to the side when you
enter the hall if the guard is still patrolling it. Try to stay behind a
pillar while above the patrolling guard or fall down to the pillar and lean
against it as he goes by. Do not expose yourself in any way to his face or he
will see you even up high. If he sees you, try to stand behind a pillar to
shield yourself from his vision and to let the alert gauge drop. Enter the
door on the right near the middle of the hall.
Coin Locations
- In the room with the save point, it is in the back, behind a crate.
- When you climb on top of the stone wall in the hall, it will be near the
doorway where the first guard was patrolling.
- On the stone wall past the room that you need to go into in the hall. It
really doesn't matter whether you get this when you reenter with the toga or
not, because the guard will still see you either way - he will not come after
you though.
> Bath
Walk behind the first maid and follow her around the bath. When she goes
around the corner, hide behind the crate and wait for the second made to walk
by the doorway in the back. When she turns around, walk through the doorway,
pick up the jug and strike the Senator. Grab his toga and leave the room.
Coin Locations
- Next to the crate.
- In the room with the Senator, by the two pots.
- Knock out the guard on the east side of the room (gold).
Getting the Gold Fortune Coin
To get this one, you will have to leave the room after you get the Senator's
toga. Reenter the room and grab the jug from the room with the Senator. Sneak
the jug by the maids and walk up to the guard's side, strike him, and quickly
take the gold coin from him. If they see you before you strike him, run out of
the room quickly, then go back inside.
> Guard's Anteroom
Tell the guard that you were just heading for the bath, if he asks. Go through
the door in the back and walk up to the guard in front of the door. He will
step aside and let you enter.
> Antonius' Garden
Walk to the double doors on the left side and open them.
Coin Locations
While outside Decius' Room, throw a frog at the maid, then let her run off.
Walk by the guards and you will find six coins total in Decius' Room. One on
the small table, three on the desk, and two at the foot of his bed.
> Antonius' Estate 2F
Walk up the stairs.

now available in the Underground Arena.
CIRCUS MAXIMUS -- Round I -- 1st Race
o-----------------o
Gold - 11,000
Silver - 8,000
Bronze - 5,000
o-----------------o
Exclusive Race Salvos:
-- Fender Bender (#181) - Force an opponent's chariot into a wall during a
race. Use L1 or R1.
-- Drive-thru (#182) - Pick up a weapon from a slave on the track during a
chariot race.
-- Street Sweeper (#183) - Pick up a weapon from the ground during a chariot
race. Basically, pick up a weapon from a dead slave.
-- Moving Violation (#184) - Hit an opponent with a weapon during a chariot
race.
-- Dead on Arrival (#185) - Kill an enemy with a weapon during a chariot race.
-- Collateral Damage (#186) - Run over and kill a slave on the track during a
chariot race.
-- Totaled (#187) - Destroy an enemy's chariot by smashing him into walls
during a chariot race. Use R1 or L1.
-- Speed Zone (#188) - Complete a lap within a predetermined time limit.
-- Leader of the Pack (#189) - Pass the VIP seating section while in the lead
during a chariot race. The VIP section is at the finish line.
-- Room To Breathe (#190) - Open up a large amount of space between yourself
and the nearest competitor when in the lead of a chariot race.
-- Pole Position (#191) - Go from last place to first in a chariot race.
-- Genocide (#192) - Completely destroy each and every opponent during a
chariot race.
This first race is basically a practice race to get you familiar with the
controls for the later races. To win, you must either kill your opponents or
win first place in the race. Snap at the horse with your whip using the X
button to make him go faster. The horse's stamina gauge, shown in the top left
corner will drain as you press the X button, but it will keep recharging
throughout the whole race. Do not make a sharp turn when you reach the turns
or it will slow you down heavily - stay near the wall and gradually turn.
Battles are unavoidable since most of the time, whenever an opponent is beside
you he will take a swipe at you. Pick up weapons that the slaves on the track
carry and this will greatly improve your chances in a battle. To pick up a
weapon drive by the slave on the right or left and he will hand to you. It's
risky to stay with the axe all the time, because you will need to get close in
order to use it and that will cause you to damage the wheels on your chariot
when doing so. If your chariot sustains too much damage on either wheel you
will automatically loose.
Gold Ranking Strategy
For these races, in order to gain a gold rank, you will need to perform as many
different Salvos as you can. All the Salvos obtainable in a race are listed
above. Pick off your opponents one by one to start things off. Ram at least
one opponent into the wall during the race. Be sure to leave at least one of
them alive. Try to keep ahead of the last opponent to boost your Salvos.
Also, be sure to pick up a weapon from a slave and hit one on purpose (pick up
a weapon from his dead body the next lap if you can). Once you have gotten
near the required amount, defeat the last opponent and that should boost your
Salvos enough for a Gold Rank.
CIRCUS MAXIMUS -- Round II -- 2nd Race
o-----------------o
Gold - 13,000
Silver - 10,000
Bronze - 7,000
o-----------------o
The main difference between the first race and this one is that the course has
two narrow parts. Be sure to look for them when engaging in a battle. The
number of laps has increased to four for this race.

-- ANTONIUS' ESTATE --
> Antonius' Estate 2F
Objective: Find Maecenas
Up the stairs you will notice a guard posted at the doorway off to the right.
Go down the corridor to the right and walk to the back entrance of the room.
Stay by the wall for the moment and allow the maid to enter the room and then
leave. Walk over to the maid's dress near the area where she was and put it
on. Grab a wine flask from the table and leave the room. The guards or maids
will not notice whether you carry a wine flask or not. Walk down the long hall
that the maid walks in and out of (you can run down the side corridor). Pass
by the guards and they will tell you that you do not look like the usual maid
that comes there so you cannot enter. Walk further down the hall and enter the
room at the end. Don't mess with the guard. On the right side of the room
grab the bandanna from the floor and put it on. Now your disguise is complete!
Go back to the door with the two guards and they will now let you enter.
Coin Locations
- In the back of the draperies that shelter the two wine flask.
- To the left of the bandanna.
- Knock out the guard (left guard) that lets you in the room with Antonius
(gold).
Getting the Gold Fortune Coin
The guard (left guard) that you talk to in order to gain access to the room
with Maecenas is the one that has the Gold Coin. It's a good idea to take out
the guard in the room with the maid bandanna before attempting this. Stand in
the hall outside the room with the maid bandanna and whistle to get the
attention of the guards - only one will come. He will stop and stare at you
when he walks around the corner. Walk toward the lone guard still at his post
to get out of the suspicious guard's view, then go back around the corner and
strike him once he turns around. The guard that has the coin can be struck
with a wine flask at any time from the side, after he has allowed you access.
Getting the Gold Fortune Coin (alternate)
Walk directly up to the left guard as he lets you in without striking any other
guard whatsoever - strike him on the left side (his right), IMMEDIATELY take
the coin, dodge the slash of the other guard, and go into the room. This is
very risky, but it works!
-- FOLLOW MAECENAS --
> Antonius Estate 2F
Objective: Keep Maecenas in your site and do not loose him.
During this segment you will have to tail Maecenas throughout the various rooms
and hallways that he enters. The tail gauge on the top right-hand side of the
screen will tell you if you are about to lose him or not. If the gauge
completely runs down then the mission is a failure. You must have Maecenas in
Octavianus' field of vision to recharge it. If Maecenas sees you then the
mission will be a failure as well. If a normal Senator or guard sees you, you
can still redeem yourself by hiding. There is a checkpoint after every
cutscene thankfully, so things never do get totally out of hand while following
him.
To start things off, follow Maecenas until you get to the hall with all the
doors. DO NOT go into the hall just yet. Wait for the first Senator that
appears to go into the room on the right (stay by the wall as he comes down the
hall) and wait for the second Senator to come through the door in the back and
then circle back to the same door. You are free to go after that, but run!
The first Senator will exit through the back door in a few moments. Duck in a
room if you think the Senator is about to see you (the second room would be the
best). The first Senator will leave from the first room and travel down the
hall to the third room, so stepping into the second room will allow you to
bypass him. Either way walk toward the end of the hall.
Coin Locations
- Inside the room through the door of where you start. Look in front of the
desk.
- In the second room on the right in the long hall with the doors. Walk
straight ahead from the entrance.
CUTSCENE
After the cutscene, go into the third room right beside you so the maid will
not see you. Look at the map (Select), and when she goes by, exit the room and
walk down the corridor to keep up with Maecenas. As you reach the next door
another cutscene will play.
CUTSCENE
Wait for the Senator to the left to go down the hall in front of you, then
follow Maecenas down the hall. As you reach the corner, you will have to step
against the wall to the left to avoid the next Senators line of vision as he
walks down the hall. After he has his back to you, enter the room where
Maecenas is.
CUTSCENE
Before following Maecenas out of the room, grab the toga from behind the
Senator on the right side of the room. Walk out of the room. The guard will
question your business there as he walks around the corner. Go into the room
Maecenas enters to end this part.
Coin Locations
- Inside the room to the right after the second checkpoint cutscene. Walk
straight ahead after entering.
- Inside the room that the guard is directly across from. Wait until after the
third cutscene when you have the toga before attempting this.

CIRCUS MAXIMUS -- Round III -- 3rd Race
o-----------------o
Gold - 15,000
Silver - 12,000
Bronze - 9,000
o-----------------o
The whole course is basically narrow on this race so you will need to watch the
tracks even closer when engaging in a battle. This race is five laps. With
the increase in the number of opponents you are racing against it is vital that
you get a better weapon from a slave. Try not to fight too much with your
opponents until you pick up a weapon with a longer reach or you will run the
risk of destroying your chariot quickly.
Gold Ranking Strategy
See Round I.
CIRCUS MAXIMUS -- Round IV -- Last Race
o-----------------o
Gold - 15,000
Silver - 11,000
Bronze - 7,000
o-----------------o
===============================================================================
Boss - VALCROSS NARCLASTESE
Recommended Weapon - Trident or Whip
The requirement for this race is that you defeat Narclastese by attacking him,
not that you beat him in the race. Do not attack him much until you get a
better weapon. He has small blades on his chariot's wheels that will make
mincemeat out of your wheels. Pick up a Whip or Trident from a slave, then go
after him. The Trident seems to work the best for hitting him since it is
faster than his whip. Be sure to keep your distance, but try to stay right
across from him. If you let him get ahead of you, he will throw firebombs on
the ground. The firebombs can make this race incredibly frustrating at times
since they will slow you down greatly. Move to the sides to dodge them and
keep up with him. If you run off and leave him during the battle, purposely
slow down by not whipping the horse or actually stop the horse altogether.
Gold Ranking Strategy
This is hard and will take quite a few tries. Risk it and hit him with your
axe a couple of times to wear his life down quickly. After hitting him about
three times with any weapon, be sure to ram him off to the side since you are
already right next to him. You will have to get Leader of the Pack at least
two or three times, and will need to perform plenty of other Salvo Moves as
well. Grab a weapon from a slave, run over the next one, pick up a weapon from
a dead slave, ram Narclastese's chariot into a wall, get a good distance
between him when you're in the lead a few times - you will have to do all of
this while wearing him down. One Fender Bender Salvo will almost always give
you a Room To Breathe Salvo as long as you do not crash along with him. If he
is next to the left wall as you make a turn, ram him and you will almost always
get a Fender Bender. If you wear him down quickly, do not defeat him until you
reach near the gold ranking since Genocide will not raise your points by much.
You will need about 11,000 Salvos before defeating him to achieve a Gold Rank.

-- PANSA'S HOUSE --
Objective: Find Cicero
Head to the Forum.
Coin Locations
- While facing Pansa, look on the other side of the wall on the pedestal next
to the bed.
- Outside Octavianus' Room, next to the stacked crates.
- Next to the merchant counter, to the left of the entrance to the Storage
Area.
> Storage Area
Coin Locations
- Behind the bricks like before.
- Next to the entrance. You will have to fight the camera a bit.
-- THE FORUM --
Talk to the Roman soldier off to the right. Tell him, "I'd better talk to
Pansa about this." and "Perhaps I should ask his pupil." He will give you a
gold coin and tell you to mention the name "Marius" to the guard at the back
door of the Senate. Head for the Senate House.
Coin Locations
- As you enter it will be in the back, to the right of the woman.
- To the soldier's left.
- Talk to the soldier and answer him correctly (gold).
-- SENATE HOUSE --
> In Front of Senate
Talk to the guard at the door to the left and mention the soldier's name from
earlier. He will give you the SENATE OFFICE KEY and allow you to go inside.
> Front Garden
Walk straight ahead when the guard turns to pace to the right side. Off to the
left you will find an opening in the hedge that will let you crawl through
about half of it without being seen. When you reach the end, be sure to view
your map to make sure no guard is staring your way, and exit. Walk north a
little and you will see another opening in the hedge by a crate that will let
you pass through the other half undetected. Stay low and sneak along the side
of the hedge until you have to go out into the open. Make sure that the pacing
guard has his back to you and the guard at the door is pacing to one of the
sides before you venture out. Keep the guard up ahead in your line of view and
sneak behind the crates to the left side. Don't crouch or walk all the time;
if the coast is clear, run! Pick up a stone. Don't throw the stone at the
guard - yes, it is hilarious, but soon you will run out. Get behind a crate
and throw it off to the right somewhere in front of the guard. When the guard
walks over to check on it. Walk to the door and unlock it with the key you got
earlier.
Coin Locations
- As you enter, it will be to the east, next to the guard's patrolling path.
- After you exit from the second hedge crawlspace turn left at the second
intersection.
- On the side of the building next to the stairs.
> Inner Garden
There are a bunch of ways to do this part. Be sure to constantly stand behind
something and know where the guards are, especially when you reach the guarded
door. One of the best ways to do this is to hop over the fence and grab the
stone to the right. Wait till the guard closest to you walks away and sneak
along the side of the hedge and go straight ahead to the north. Don't go
around the other side just yet. Check to make sure that the guard on the other
side is pacing away from you and make a break for the stone maze in the far
north. The exit to the maze is on the east. As you venture out, make sure
that the guard has his back to you and is traveling west, and that the middle
patrolling guard is walking to the south. Hide behind the bushes in the
northeast and grab a stone if you haven't yet. When the two guards have their
back to you once again in the same manner described above, move over to the
pillars and creep toward the guard near the door. You will have to stay behind
the pillars just enough so when the middle guard paces, he will not see you.
Reach the pillar that is closest to the door that the guard is posted at and
quickly throw a stone near him to distract him. When you throw it, either
throw it far off so that both the middle guard and the door guard walk toward
it or throw it extremely close to the guard near the door. You can stand to
the side of pillar directly to the side of the guard and he will not see you
while throwing the stone. Move toward the door and open it as the guard walks
over to check out the noise.
Either way you do this area, you will still have to hide behind a pillar and
throw a rock to get the guard's attention.
Coin Locations
- On the stone bench in the south (look at the map).
- In the middle pond area in the southwest of that area, behind a tree.
- On the far east side of the stone maze in the north. You will have to lean
against a wall and squeeze through to get to the room.

-- TRAINING FACILITY --
> Gladiators' Dorm
Talk to Sextus in his area to move onward to the next set of rounds. The
"Expert" rounds are now playable in the Underground Arena.
DESERT ARENA -- Round I -- Battle Royale
o-----------------o
Gold - 50,000
Silver - 30,000
Bronze - 20,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Kill all of your opponents.
2) Get at least 15,000 Salvos.
In this round, firetraps are in each sand trap in the arena. Press the switch
at the top of each sand trap to activate the firetrap. This one can be a
little hard to get started out in because of the heavily armored enemies. It's
best to work a bunch of them into the sand traps and then barbecue them
altogether. Lure enemies down into the sand traps and then quickly run up the
side and press the switch. If you see some enemies fighting in the sand traps
then press the switch as well. Be on the lookout for enemies that will do the
same to you however.
Gold Ranking Strategy
Start out without a weapon, then appeal to the crowd immediately. They should
throw you a weapon. Start out by burning many of the enemies with the
firetraps, then switch to killing them in another variety of ways. Try to get
ahold of a big weapon and this one shouldn't be much of a problem. Try luring
a weak enemy down into the middle of a firetrap; hold the R1 button with a
weapon equipped, and if he is weak enough, he will beg for mercy - at that
instant, run up to the switch and press it for a most brutal Salvo move. You
might get Urine Trouble along with Purgatory Cometh Salvos by doing such.
Throw weapons and severed arms (after you beat an enemy with it) into the crowd
as usual to boost your Salvos.
DESERT ARENA -- Round II -- Beast Hunt
o-----------------o
Gold - 20,000
Silver - 10,000
Bronze - 5,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Finish off all the beasts within the required time limit (five minutes).
Three tigers and one gladiator with a Spear will be your opponents for this
round. Start out with whichever weapon of your choosing - they all have their
advantages. The main key for beating this battle is to not let the tigers gang
up on you. They can gang up incredibly easy and take off quite a bit if they
catch you with a bite. If you need to eat some food, be sure to run behind a
wooden board and eat quickly. You will have to use Spears most of the battle
since the audience will keep throwing them in. Go after the tigers first and
then deal with the gladiator. Stop to throw rocks often to take some good
damage from a tiger. Target and throw the rock through a wooden board if you
have to. If the audience throws a Maul, then grab it quickly before the
gladiator gets it.
Gold Rank Strategy
Start the battle with whichever weapon you're comfortable with - I wouldn't
recommend starting with no weapon. Go to the left and pick up the first rock
behind the first board and toss it at a tiger. Try to make the final hit on a
tiger either a rock toss or a charged Spear thrust for some extra Salvos
points. Toss weapons and roses into the audience. If the audience throws a
Maul, use it to break the gladiator's arms and finish him off with it.
DESERT ARENA -- Round III -- Team Battle
o-----------------o
Gold - 30,000
Silver - 15,000
Bronze - 10,000
o-----------------o
Requirements:
1) Break all the opposing team's stone statues before the time limit expires
and before they destroy your team's statues.
Compared to the last Team Battle, this one isn't really too bad. The only hard
aspect is figuring out which switches go with which statues. The switch on the
middle platform will lower the gate for the southwest statue. The switch on
the left platform will lower the gate on the furthest statue to the left on the
tall platform in the back. The left switch at the top of the tall platform
will lower the gate to the statue right across from it. Talk to the small
gladiator on your team and start with the middle switch, w
