 Introduction [MaxInt]

Hello, and welcome to the ultimate Max Payne 2 FAQ/Walkthrough, written by me,
snkupo aka Eirik Mortensen. The guide was originally written for the PAL
Xbox port of the game, but can be used to guide you through the PC
version or the PS2 version as well - the game is the same one no matter what
system you play on, if you look away from the fact that the Playstation 2
version has less detailed graphics than the two counterparts.

You'll be happy to hear that this document does not only tell you how to
cruise through the masterpiece that is Max Payne 2, but it also tells you
about all the hidden easter eggs that can be found in the game. There's lots
of them, and many of them are quite interesting. Of course, I'll also tell you
about all the weapons, controls, and how to master the gameplay. Just check
out the various sections I've splitted the guide up in. It's all there! I hope
you'll find the guide useful, and that you enjoy playing Max's second
adventure. You should also know that I won't tell you when to save your game.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What Happened in Max Payne 1 [MaxOne]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you didn't get to play the first game in the series, you need to check out
this section. It will roughly tell you about the most important events of the
first game, where Max is a young undercover cop with a bottomless need for
revenge. He might be more hard boiled in the sequel, but that's because he
experienced some wicked stuff in the first game. Below, you can read a wrapped
up summary written by myself:

It all started during the Gulf War. At the time, Nicole Horne which was the
leader of the powerful Aesir Corporation, was the leader of an underground
military experiment. The goal was to develop a drug that would improve the
physical abilities of American soldiers, as well as improving their morale.
This experiment went under the name "Project Valhalla", and was supported by
The Inner Circle, an organization that basically pulls the strings and
manipulates the politics as they wish. The Inner Circle has ties all the way
up to the presidential level in the government.

After a while, The Inner Circle realized that Project Valhalla had gone out of
hand, and had to be dropped, as the drug that was being developed gave users
hallucinations, and made them addicted. Project Valhalla was dropped by The
Inner Circle, but Nicole Horne continued the development, and named the drug
"Valkyr". After years in development, Horne started marketing Valkyr as a
narcotic designer drug through the Puchinello Syndicate, a cheap mafia
organization of sorts. Valkyr was now one of the most popular narcotics on the
streets.

Several years after Valkyr had started selling on the streets, Michelle Payne,
which was Max's wife, accidentally saw a document that tied Nicole Horne to
Project Valhalla. This resulted in Horne sending junkies high on Valkyr to the
Payne family's residence to kill them. While Max was away from home, his wife
and his baby child was brutally killed. Max swore revenge, and started on his
macabre adventure through the night, in the midst of the biggest blizzard ever
seen in New York. As Max got deeper and deeper down in everything, Horne set
up Max, and made it look like he shot one of his best friends and companions,
Alex Balder during a bank robbery carried out by the Puchinello Syndicate.

With justice not being on his side, Max started chasing the Puchinello
Syndicate, and stumbles upon a trace that gives him contact with Alfred
Woden, a member of The Inner Circle. He explains everything about Project
Valhalla to Max. Max also gains a new friend, the Russian Mafia member
Vladimir Lem, as this gives him access to lots of firearms. After realizing
more about what has happened since his family's murder, helping Vlad a little,
and taking out lots of Puchinello Mafia members, Max makes his way to the
Aesir Corporation building, and unleashes the biggest massacre ever heard of.
He makes his way to the top of the building, where he meets Mona Sax, which is
working for Horne. However, Mona says that Max is "a nice guy", something that
earns her a bullet from a companion. Mona falls into an elevator, and
disappears. In the end, Max kills Horne at the top of the building while she's
trying to run away in a helicopter. This is where Max Payne 1 ends. Alfred
Woden would later clean Max Payne of his issues with the law.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Controls [MaxCtr]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The controls in Max Payne 2 are customizable through the game's option menu,
but here are the default controls, which I recommend that you use for the best
possible gaming experience.

  Left Analog Stick - Move/Strafe
Right Analog Stick - Manual Aim
  Press Left Analog - Crouch
Press Right Analog - Aim Fast

  A - Jump
  X - Use/Zoom
  B - Bullet Time
  Y - Secondary Attack

  White Button - Eat Painkiller
  Black Button - Reload Weapon
  Right Trigger - Shoot/Primary Attack
  Left Trigger - Shootdodge

  Dpad - Browse Inventory
  Start - Pause
  Back - Main Menu

It is also possible to set the aiming to inverted, enable Auto-Aiming, enable
Auto-Lock, set vibration off and so on. I recommend that you do enable Auto-
Aiming, but turn off Auto-Lock.

You can also turn on 'Bullet Time Combo',
which is a function that activated Bullet Time is you use it while standing
still, and works like a Shootdodge if you use it while running.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Weapons [MaxWpn]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 9mm Pistol
 ==========
Ah, Max's standard sidearm. This is the first weapon you will get your hands
on, and also the weakest one when wielded one at a time. The 9mm Pistol is
really a Beretta 92. It packs decent firepower, but is not enough to go
berserk at several bad guys with. You can dual wield the weapon, which makes
it much more useful. One clip stores 16 bullets. The weapon is pretty fast,
and when dual wielded, a good allrounder if you want to save up ammo for the
more powerful weapons you might have in your inventory. For the best
accuracy at long range, ditch dual wielding.

 Desert Eagle
 ============
A pearl among handguns, the Desert Eagle is very, very powerful, and is so
accurate that is almost gives the Sniper Rifle competition. Well, almost.
Getting ammo for the Desert Eagle is harder than getting ammo for the 9mm
Pistol. Desert Eagles can also be dual wielded. When you do this, you can
take out hordes of enemies attacking - if you've got enough ammo. A very
powerful weapon, and one of my favorites. The only disadvantage is that it is
a very slow weapon. One clip stores 10 bullets.

 Ingram
 =======
Machine Gun that can be dual wielded. The Ingram is the most effective weapon
at close range, when you need to deal with lots of enemies. It fires about
eight bullets per second, and can store 32 bullets in one clip. Watch out, as
ammo is spent really fast when shooting. You'll be out of ammo faster than
you think, but it's good fun while it lasts. The accuracy is not very good at
 long range.

 Pump-Action Shotgun
 ===================
A good weapon if you face one single enemy, but since it is a very slow one,
you will not want to use it when you face several bad guys at once. Stores
7 shells. You will absolutely not want to shootdodge while being equipped
with this weapon. Accuracy is descend.

 Sawed-Off Shotgun
 =================
A very nice weapon if there's just a few enemies around. Shoot at the upper
part of someone's body, and they'll die. This is almost like a law. However,
accuracy is very bad at long range. Extremely bad. And since it only stores
two shells at a time, you won't be using it a lot. A very interesting weapon,
 though.

 Striker aka Jackhammer
 ======================
An automatic shotgun that you won't find many places in the game. This is one
of the best weapons in the game if close combat is your thing. The accuracy
is the same as the Pump-Action Shotgun, but since this one's rate of fire is
much better, you should use it more often than the standard Shotgun.

 MP5
 ====
The best allrounder in the game. The MP5 has a very fast rate of fire, is
extremely accurate, and at the top of this, it has a scope mounted on it. The
MP5 can store xx bullets in one clip, and is extremely powerful. Save it for
 the hard times!

 Kalashnikov
 ===========
What would Max Payne have been without the Kalashnikov? Well, a good game I'm
sure of, but it would have lacked something. The Kalashnikov is a very
powerful weapon, with a pretty fast rate of fire. It is also a decent weapon
when it comes to accuracy. One clip stores 30 bullets. Another good
allrounder, but not as extreme as the MP5.

 M4 Carbine
 ==========
A very accurate weapon that is extremely powerful. A overall better choice
than the Kalashnikov, but not all that different. If it had only had a scope,
it would have been a much better weapon than the MP5.

 Dragunov
 ========
Mona's weapon of choice is a very powerful Sniper Rifle. Very accurate, and
pretty fast for a Sniper Rifle. Has a very good scope, and can also be used
 in close combat.

 Sniper Rifle
 ============
This is a better weapon than the Dragunov if sniping is really what you're
going to do. Multiple levels of zoom, and damn powerful. This weapon usually
kills your target with one bullet, but in return, it's a very slow weapon.

 Grenade
 =======
A handgrenade that will explode a few seconds after you throw it. Bounces off
walls. A very nice thing to do, it to throw grenades around corners when
you're low on health and enemies are nearby.

 Molotov Cocktail
 ===============
Be a rebel, and throw these burning bottles of strong beverage at the bad
guys. The bottle will scatter, and flames will burn your foes to death. Can
 not bounce off walls.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Characters [MaxCha]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the best things in Max Payne is the characters. Each and one of them
play an important role in the storyline. They have all been developed very
carefully, and the result is splendid. Max Payne 2 is every bit as good as the
first game in the series when it comes to the characters and the storyline.
Read below for information regarding the main characters.

 Max Payne
 =========
The main character of the game, Max Payne, has been through a lot the last
years. Once upon a time, he had everything. A perfect life. The American
Dream, as he once called it. At that time, Max was working as an undercover
cop. He also had a lovely wife, and a baby together with her. Unfortunately,
this is just a dream for Max now. He has killed hundreds of people, but has
been cleaned for all of his legal "issues". He's working at the NYPD with his
partner Winterson, with which he has solved several cases, and tracked down a
serial killer. Even though Max is good at his work, he often goes too far,
and puts himself into danger very often. He already considers his life to
have ended, but keeps on working for the NYPD. Max can be described as a
person that can't really exist peacefully with himself. A sufferer. However,
Max has a good friend in the Russian mafia head Vladimir Lem. He's also
attracted to Mona Sax, a woman that plays an important role in this game.

 Mona Sax
 ========
Mona also played a small role in Max Payne 1, as she saved Max from death by
choosing not to kill him when ordered to. In Max Payne 2, Mona contact Max,
only to tell him that he and herself are being targeted by someone. A few
moments later, a sniper almost kills them. Mona is very skilled with weapons,
and has a good eye for Max Payne - Max might take this part of Mona too
 seriously.

 Alfred Woden
 ============
A member of The Inner Circle. Alfred Woden was once one of the most powerful
members of the organization, but lately, he has started loosing control.
Woden is a Senator, and even though not as powerful as before, he possesses
quite some political power. Woden does only have one eyes, and can't walk, so
he's tied to a wheelchair. Woden once had a hot night together with Candy
Dawn, a prostitute that Max killed during his first adventure. Nicole Horne
managed to get Woden and Dawn at tape, and used the tape to make Woden shut
 his lips about Project Valhalla.

 Vladimir Lem
 ============
Vladimir is a high-up member of the Russian mafia. He commands lots of thugs,
and has recently bought the old building Ragnarock Rock to turn it into a
restaurant. Vladimir is one of Max's only friends, even though Max feels that
he can be a little slimy some times. Vladimir was once the student of Alfred
Woden, and is a very characteristic person.

 Valerie Winterson
 =================
Max's partner at the NYPD. She is an excellent detective, and has solved
numerous cases both alone and along with Max. However, Max has never really
liked Winterson, as she seems to complain about Max taking too many risks.
The only relation Winterson has to Max is through work. Winterson has a blind
 son.

 Jim Bravura
 ============
In Max Payne 1, Bravura was a Deputy Chief of the NYPD. This time around,
he's working as Homicide Lieutenant. Bravura is addicted to pills, and seems
to be a very stressed person. He suspects Payne of being involved in the
murder of Sebastian Gate, and in the end, Max really doesn't seem to care
much about Bravura even though he is his boss.

 Vinnie Gognitti
 ==============
Once the right hand of Jack Lupino, a man that Max killed in Max Payne 1,
Vinnie is still alive even though Max shot him in the stomach during his
first adventure. Vinnie is a threat to Vladimir Lem's business, and has a
very annoying personality - Max thinks.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 The Basics [MaxPla]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you've already checked the controls section of my guide, it is time to read
this section. Max Payne 2 is a very stylish third person shooter, and requires
that you are able to keep track of what's happening, and that you are able to
use, and understand the different features in the game. Read below to find out
everything about the gameplay in Max Payne 2.

Max Payne's main way of getting through the levels in the game, is shooting
and killing bad guys. There's lots of different weapons to help you with this,
and you can carry all of them at once - unlike realistic games similar to
Rainbow Six and SWAT. The ammunition is not unlimited however, so try not
wasting it. If you do run out of ammo, use the melee, secondary attack to take
out enemies. There's also throwable weapons like grenades that will explode
some time after you've used them.

The lower left corner of the screens shows you how healthy Max is. If the icon
is completely white, everything is fine. When the icon gets full of red color,
Max dies. To prevent dying, you should collect Painkillers, that will heal
Max. You can find them in bathrooms, drawers, on tables and so on. Max can eat
as many Painkillers as he want to without getting dizzy.

Bullet Time is the most important part of the action in the game. When you
activate it, everything slows down, but you will still be able to aim just as
fast as earlier. This gives you an enormous advantage over the enemies.
However, this is a limited resource. You can see how much you've got left in
the hourglass in the bottom left corner of the screen. When you take out an
enemy, you will earn a little more Bullet Time. Bullet Time also regenerates
slowly. If you take out several enemies at once, the Bullet Time hourglass
will turn yellow, and your advantage will be even bigger than before.

Mr. Payne can also shootdodge. This is a great ability if you encounter only
one enemy, as you can dive into the air in slow motion, and shoot at the same
time. Max can continue shooting after he has landed, until his clip runs out
of ammunition. You can also do a standard dodge without diving in slow motion
by running left, right or back, and then jumping.

If you reload your gun while the Bullet Time hourglass is yellow, you will get
to see Max doing a stylish turnaround while reloading his weapon. There's also
places where the game will turn on slow motion, and focus on the last enemy
being killed while he fl yes backwards after being shot.

 Hints and Tips [MaxHin]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now you know how to play with the various moves and items that the game
features. However, you might want to read up on some hints and tips that I'll
provide you with in this section of the guide.

Never forget to use Bullet Time. This is the best thing to avoid dying.
If you see a bad guy, or more of them, activate Bullet Time, run towards
them with a fast weapon, and shoot at them all. You should be able to
take out several enemies without being hit if you strafe at the same time
as shooting. At the end of the shootout, do a shootdodge while taking out
     the last man standing.

You should always reload your weapons, even if you have only used a few
bullets of your current clip. You'll never know when ten enemies might
pop up in front of you.

Search for Painkillers and weapons everywhere. Good stuff might be hidden
in secret rooms, on tables, inside lockers and so on. Search everywhere!

You might run into characters that are willing to help you. Take
advantage of them, and stay close to them, instead of running away from
them. You'll be surprised, as they can be pretty useful.

Talk to everyone you meet. You might be rewarded, you know.

When shooting at enemies from a distance, select a weapon that is good on
long range, like the Desert Eagle or the Sniper Rifle. Crouch while
shooting to hit your targets easier. You can also crouch behind crates,
barrels and so on to get some cover.

Always aim for the head when you shoot at someone.

Never ignore a TV-show. They are so well made that you absolutely need to
watch them, even though they don't really provide you with anything
     useful.

When you need to drop down somewhere, don't jump.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Game Modes [MaxMod]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's quite a few Game Modes, or difficulty settings in Max Payne 2. Once
you've completed the game on the easiest setting, the rest will be unlocked.
In this section, you can read about every single one of them.

Detective
----------
Detective is the mode that is available when you first start Playing the game.
The difficulty is altered by a self-adjusting system, that monitors how well
you are doing. If you're good at playing, enemies will be hard, but if you're
bad, they'll go easier on you. By completing Detective, you will unlock more
modes.

Hard Boiled
-----------
This on is unlocked by completing the Detective mode. Hard Boiled ditches the
self-adjusting difficulty system, and gives you enemies that don't go easy on
you no matter what.

Dead on Arrival
---------------
Unlocked by completing Hard Boiled. Dead on Arrival stars enemies just as hard
as in Hard Boiled, but you will have a limited number of savegames to spend
per level. In fact, you only get 4 saves per chapter, including prologues.
If you beat the game on this Mode, you will get to see a secret
ending to the game. Absolutely worth it.

New York Minute
----------------
Similar to Time Trial in racing games, New York Minute encourages you to
complete the various levels as fast as possible. Using Bullet Time slows the
timer down, and killing enemies reduces the time you've spent. Graphical
Novels and Cinematics stop the timer. Unlocked by completing the Detective
Mode.

Dead Man Walking
----------------
Surviving is only a dream. You won't live through the night. Dead Man Walking
will test your ability to survive. When you start out, there is one enemy in
the level. As time progresses, more and more enemies will spawn. Don't feel
good if you kill one though, as he will spawn again very soon. Can you take
the horror? This mode is unlocked by completing the Detective Mode.

Jump To Chapter
---------------
Complete the game once, and you can jump to any chapter you want to play.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Frequently Asked Questions [MaxQue]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is there a "Master Cheat" for this game?
A: To unlock all the Modes, press the following buttons during gameplay:

   "X, X, X, A, Left, Right, Left, Right, X, X, X, A, Left, Right, Left,
   Right"

Q: Why does Max look so different in this game?
A: In the first game, Max was modeled after the game's script creator Sam
Lake. In Max Payne 2, Lake was replaced by professional actor Timothy
   Gibbs.

Q: What's the TV Show "Dick Justice" all about?
A: The most frequent show is "Dick Justice", which is a television show
based on Max Payne 1. It kind of parodies and makes fun of what Max did in
the first game. The name Dick Justice is also a wordplay, as Max Payne 1
originally was to be named "Dark Justice". One of the thugs in Max Payne,
also calls his gun Dick Justice.

Q: I see, so what about "Lords and Ladies"?
A: There's also a show named "Lords and Ladies". This show was
also airing during Max Payne 1, and features noble lords and ladies dating
each other. The Lord is often very keen on the lady, but the lady herself
tends to avoid the lord. In almost every single line, the words "My Lord"
   or "My Lady" is mentioned.

Q: Great, now tell me about "Address Unknown", also known as "Pink Flamingo".
A: Sure. This show was also airing during the events in the first game. This
show is a cult series, and provides lots of references to Max Payne, hidden
in over-the-top wackiness. The show is set in a city named Noir York City,
and stars John Mirra as the main character. John is pursued by a serial
killer that goes under his own name. The killer is followed by a Pink
Flamingo, or at least, this is what John sees as reality. John has issues
with his mental health, just like Max Payne. The show is incredibly fun,
wacky and is totally worth "watching".

Q: Tell me more about the song I hear at the end of the game.
A: It was written and performed by 'Poets of the Fall', a Finnish band that
gained popularity after Max Payne 2 was released. I've written down the
lyrics for the song in this FAQ - check the table of contents.

Q: What is that weird spin Max does sometimes?
A: It's a spin Max does when he reloads while his Bullet Time hourglass is
yellow. This move is also useful for dodging bullets.

Q: Can I replay the levels I've played earlier?
A: Yes, complete the game and this feature will have been unlocked under
   'New Game'.

Q: Who is Miika Forssell?
A: Miika was a Finnish fan of the Max Payne series. He died during the
production of Max Payne 2. Remedy dedicated a shrine in this game to Miika.
You can find it in Part 1, Chapter 7.

Q: Who is the coolest person in Max Payne 2?
A: Vladimir Lem. Vladimir is one of the coolest, and best developed characters
I've ever seen. He beats everything! Vladimir is even cooler than, say,
myself. You should pray to god that you'll grow up to be as Vladimir, if
you're still a kid. If you've got a kid, teach him to act like Vladimir.

 Part 1, Prologue [Wal100]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch the graphical novel. Max is hallucinating about Mona, Max wakes up in an
empty hospital room. He's a wreck. He managed to get up of bed, and starts
walking.

Open the nearby cupboard for two painkillers. Get out of the room, and enter
the door to your right once you're in the corridor. Max will ask if anyone's
there, but the only answer he gets are some weird voices coming from inside of
his own head. In this room, run towards the white door at the end, and Max
will hallucinate even more. He sees Mona in a red jacket. Exit through the
white door. In this room, a Cola machine will be placed to the left of where
you entered. It's sponsored by Address Unknown, a wacky TV-show. Now, enter
the door to the right of the 'ICU' sign, and answer the phone that's ringing.
Payne hallucinates, and hears Nicole Horne saying 'Is this the Payne
residence'. You'll now hear a doctor talking. Exit this room, and go a little
left for three painkillers hidden inside a red box at the floor. Exit the room
using the nearby door.

In here, you will see a corpse lying on the floor. You'll pick up a 9mm Pistol
from the floor, and a commando will enter the room. Take him down, and exit
the room using the door the commando came from. A cut-scene where Max sees
Mona and Winterson will start. Exit the room, and watch the drawings on the
windows in front of you, where the Max Payne 1 prologue is explained. Max is a
policeman, he has a family, the family is killed, and Max starts to cry. Now
run to the right, ignore the reception, and watch the episode of Address
Unknown. After this episode, various commercials will air. One of them is for
Vladimir Lem's new restaurant. Well, if you're done watching TV, get into the
elevator that has opened.

Down here, Jim Bravura will encounter you. He thinks you're guilty, and that
you have murdered your partner Winterson. Things suddenly speed up, and
Bravura is shot down by a commando. The elevator you're in falls down, and you
lose your guns. Down here, you'll see Winterson's dead body, and a graphical
novel showing police officers and Mona will start. The level ends.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 1, Chapter 1 - Elevator Doors [Wal101]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch the graphical novel where Max explains what happened after the first
game in the series. Alfred Woden cleaned him of his actions, and made him look
like a hero. Payne never thanked him. You'll also get to know that Payne
transferred to the NYPD, where he is now working as a detective. Some gunshots
have been heard at a warehouse owned by Vladimir Lem, and Max drives there to
check out what's happening. You will hear a woman's voice screaming for help.

Start out by opening the door on the rightmost black van for a painkiller and
some ammo for your 9mm. Behind Max's car, there is an entrance to the
backyard, so run in here as all the other entrances to the building are
locked. You will get to a door. Enter the building, and keep running until you
hear a terrible scream and some gunshooting coming from a secretary's corner.
You'll find out that what was going on was just the show Dick Justice airing
on a TV. Watch it to find out how Dick's venture started - his family got
killed, and Dick decides to make them pay. Well, there is a painkiller in the
drawer near the TV, so take it. Run through the building until you meet a man.

This guy says he's working for the Squeaky Cleaning Company, and says that all
the noise came from the gun workshop upstairs. Payne asks him to follow him
upstairs. Once the man has opened a gate, and says he'll go after you, blow
his brains out, and continue into the next room to find another cleaner that
is armed. Kill him using your 9mm, and watch all the blood on the floor.
Nasty, don't you think? In the lower right part of the room, a Ragnarock sign
can be found. You'll remember it from Max Payne 1. Well, now exit the room
using the gate in the upper left part of the room.

In here, get a painkiller from the cupboard on your right side, and kill two
cleaners in the next room. Continue through the door in the corner, and start
running up the stairs. You'll hear two cleaners planning to get out of here.
Activate Bullet Time once you start getting close to the top, and shoot the
first cleaner. Once at the top, take down the second one. You'll now be in the
gun workshop that the cleaners have been talking about. Walk through the door,
and run left to pick up ammo from the two cupboards. Now listen to the
answering machine, to hear Annie Finn. The one that has left a message is
Vladimir. He says he's sorry he couldn't make it there because something came
up. If you look around, you'll see the big 'Vodka' sign that Vladimir is going
to use for his new restaurant. Now exit the room through the nearby door.

You will get to a dark small room. Continue and you'll hear the woman's voice
again. In the room where you hear the voice, there is a painkiller and some
ammo inside two lockers. Well, continue towards the voice and through a door.
A cut-scene where Annie Finn is being threatened by the cleaners will start.
Annie is killed, and you will have to deal with the two cleaners. Use some
Bullet Time. Annie mentioned that she was working for Vladimir before she was
killed, and the cleaner responded that she wasn't working for anyone anymore.
What do you think this means? Play on!

Collect the Sawn-Off Shotgun on the table, and run out of the room again.
You'll run into two cleaners, so test your new weapon on them. Run back to the
small dark room, and from there head right. Four cleaners will try to kill
you, so crouch behind a crate, and take them all down. You'll find a Pump-
Action Shotgun as well as an Ingram. Police sirens start making noise. Run
through a door, and across a flat stairway. A cut-scene showing Mona Sax
coming out of an elevator, killing three cleaners, and seeing Max will be
show. Mona escapes after saying 'We gotta stop meeting like this'. Try opening
the elevator, and you'll find out that you can't enter yet. So, open the door
to your right, shoot the two cleaners below you, and backtrack to the
elevator, and use it go go downwards. Max realizes that the cleaners are
trying to get away, and that backup has finally arrived. Walk through the open
gate, then right and kill the cleaners you meet. Continue into the next room,
and the cleaners will crash a truck into the wall. Take them out, run to the
right side of the room, and take a quick trip inside the the entrance, and
then run out again, as a stand will be falling down on you, and you'll die if
it hits you. Kill the last cleaners, and exit the room through a door close to
some bodybags lying on the floor.

You'll see a cut-scene where Winterson saves you from being hit by the
escaping car. A graphical novel starts running. Bravura thinks it's too bad
that Annie Finn died, but changes the topic to a murder case where Mona is
suspected. The senator Sebastian Gate has been murdered. Payne keeps his mouth
shut, and doesn't mention that he saw Mona at the warehouse. Winterson gets
the case. Now, a phone rings, and an officer answers what appears to be a call
for Winterson. Her 'boyfriend is calling'. Want to find out more about this
mess Payne has tumbled into? I'm sure you'll want to, so keep on playing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 1, Chapter 2 - A Criminal Mastermind [Wal102]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The graphical novel shows Max driving towards Vodka, the restaurant that
Vladimir is going to open one of these days. Max needs to tell Vladimir about
the murder of Annie Finn, since she was employed by him. Once Max arrives,
Vladimir is being trapped inside the building. Max decides to help Vladimir
out, and uses the backdoor to enter the building.

Start by running to the far right side of the room to collect some painkillers
from a dead man. Then head back and go up the stairs. At the top, activate
Bullet Time and kill the mobsters waiting for you. Walk to the right, and
enter a room with a microphone inside. Use it to tell Vladimir that you're
coming. There is a huge drawing of Captain Baseballbat Boy on the wall, by the
way. Also, on the other wall you can see a diploma proving that Vladimir has
supported the Brooklyn School of the Blind. Well, pick up the Painkillers
that can be found in the lockers in this room, and head up the next set of
stairs. Watch the cut-scene where a Russian named 'Mike the Cowboy' takes out
several mobsters. What a hardass! The asks you if you really are Max Payne,
and of course, you are. If Mike survives the level, you will meet him again
later in the game.

Pick up the ammo that was left by the mobsters, and head up the stairs with
Mike behind you. Up here, watch an episode of Captain Baseballbat Boy. He sure
is good at killing zombies from outer space. He even did a homerun. Well,
enough fun for you, so continue running to the right, and then into a room
with several mobsters in. Use Bullet Time to take them all out. In this room,
you should pick up all the ammo, and some painkillers. Continue running
forward and up some stairs. Open a door and walk inside. Kill the two mobsters
placed straight behind the door, and then the one that appears to your right.
Now, Mike will drop down to the left of the door you came from, so follow him,
and collect all the painkillers you'll run into. There is also a mobster to
the right of the locker with all the painkillers in. Take him out using
something like the Desert Eagle. Now, run before Mike and enter the door to
the left of the painkillers. Shoot the mobster you see in front of you once
you've entered, and then the one to your left.

Wait for Mike to come after you, and then start running down the closest
stairs while shooting enemies that are trying to kill you from below. Two
mobsters will enter from a yellow door close to the bottom, so watch out.
Vladimir is also having a hard time, as you can hear from the huge speakers.
Open up the yellow door, kill the mobsters inside by crouching and using
Bullet Time, and collect the ammo and painkillers from the locker at the end
of the room. Now, there is a brown door in the room that you should open up
Ange walk past. Make sure that you run before Mike, as he might get killed
fast
if he enters first. Activate Bullet Time, take out the mobsters below you, and
then the ones to your left. There is a Shotgun at a table to the left as well.

Now, run over to the opposite side of the room, and go downwards to where the
corpses of the mobsters you just shot lie. Collect their ammo, painkillers,
and continue through a rather dark passage into the next room. Here, you will
be facing quite a showdown. Mike is a great help here. First, shoot all the
mobsters you can see, and then collect the painkillers in front of you. Now
you can crouch behind some furniture in the right corner of the room, and
shoot anything that moves, as long as it isn't Mike you're shooting at. When
you've killed enough mobsters, a cut-scene showing Vinnie Gognitti and his
mobsters, as well as Vladimir will start. Vinnie doesn't like it when he
realizes that you are here, so he sends three mobsters off to kill you. They
will enter through a door. Kill them, and use this door to get to Vladimir.
If you instead choose to go through the other nearby door, you will get to see
lots of stuff from the old Ragnarock.

A cut-scene will show Vinnie escaping, and Vladimir thanking you for saving
him. He could kill you, he says. The following graphical novel lets you know
that Vinnie is trying to kill Vladimir because he's competition on the illegal
weapons market in New York. Vladimir says that Annie Finn was a princess, and
that she was killed for no reason. Max is offered a drink, but doesn't want
one. Well, now that you've met Vladimir, he looks damn cool in this game, am I
right?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1, Chapter 3 - The Depths of My Brain [Wal103]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A graphical novel makes it clear that Max has trouble sleeping at night.
You'll see a picture of his wife, with Max's wedding ring close to it. On the
TV, Address unknown is airing. You can hear the main character John talking
about having entered a parallel reality - Noir York City. You can also hear
the words 'The Flesh of Fallen Angels', which refers to Jack Lupino and Max
Payne 1. Lupino had gone mad, destroyed by Valkyr. Now, Max stands up, as if
he's dreaming.

In your room, you can see pictures of Max and his family, and pictures
displaying 'Hero Cops' Max Payne and Alex Balder. If you try to turn off the
television, there will be no reaction. Well, walk out of the room and to the
left. A drawing of Mona will suddenly appear from the other side of the exit
door. Run into it, and continue running forwards, then right past all the
crates. Follow the corridor down the stairs and into a morgue. Walk to the
right side of the room, and watch Mona's dead body roll out. Whoa, now she
will appear behind you, alive and all. If you touch her, she will moan
Max's name. Answer the phone in the left part of the room. You will hear
Vladimir talking. Suddenly, you'll find yourself outside, and a sign will
display Max Payne, and the text 'everyone I touch dies'. You will be cornered
by the police. They'll shoot you.

The next thing that happens, is that you're being heard by Winterson and
Bravura. Winterson will tell you that you've got a phonecall. Now, they'll
shoot at you. Shoot back. Max finally wakes when someone knocks on his door.
Max gets his gun, and opens up.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1, Chapter 4 - No 'us' in this [Wal104]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mona enters the room, and explains that she, and Max, are being targeted by
someone. A moment after, Max is almost killed by a sniper. Mona escapes.

Run into the room to the left, and make a phonecall to Winterson. Now get the
painkiller on the right side of the bed, pick up the ammo in the locker that
you can find in the bathroom, and then exit using the bathroom door. Now, walk
out to the corridor using the most solid looking door. You can see that Mona
has killed quite a few cleaners. Well, head left, and then left again, to see
an old lady shooting a cleaner. Talk to her, and she will give you a shotgun.
Steal the painkiller from one of her drawers, and exit her room. Jump out the
open window to your right, and jump from one ledge to the other one. Ignore
the black car, and get inside the window close to the last ledge as soon as
possible, as you'll want to avoid the cleaners coming from the car.

In this room, there is a phone, but you can't use it for anything good. Enter
the door to the left. If you turn off the TV, the old man will be awakened,
but you don't need to do this. Jump out of the window in the old man's room,
get into a new corridor, and kill all the cleaners there. Go left and talk to
the lady dressed in red. She will give you painkillers if you wait for her to
stop talking, as she will unlock her bathroom where the pills can be found. Go
into her stove, get into the door on the right, and jump out of the window.
Shoot the cleaner below you, and jump onto the stairway to your left, walk up,
and enter the room the sniper at the start of the level was shooting from.

In here, you can see that someone has been watching Max for weeks, as there's
lots of data on him here. Pick up the Sniper Rifle from the floor, and listen
to the recording device on the table. One of the calls recorded features Max
calling a Phone-Sex line, just wanting to talk to someone. If you look into
the scope close to the window, you will see a cut-scene where Max's room blows
up. Well, get out of the room, pick up a painkiller in the photo-room to the
left, and then exit through the other door outside of the photo-room.

Here, walk until you hear a someone saying 'oh my god'. Kill the cleaners
coming from upstairs and run upstairs, all the way to floor 7 (it says 7 on
the wall). Get into the elevator, go all the way down, and be fast and shoot
all the cleaners you meet, as they are trying to kill a man down here. The
Ingram is a good choice in this situation. Well, follow the man to where he
sits down and pick up a shotgun. Now follow the signs in the ceiling to the
basement. Once you're at the end of the stairs, there's some painkillers on
the right. Ok, talk to the man singing on 'Late Goodbye' to get the code for
the 7th floor - '667, neighbor of the beast'. Now go back to the elevator
again, and kill the cleaners you meet on your way for a Kalashnikov. Once
you've taken the elevator all the way up, use the numpad close to the door to
open it. Walk left, and kill three cleaners. Enter the room they were coming
from. In the bathroom, you will find four painkillers, and in the stove, a
dead woman will be 'watching' Address Unknown. Now, outside the bathroom,
there is another door. Enter and kill a cleaner. Before jumping out of a new
window, collect the ammo from the drawers.

Equip the Desert Eagle and kill any cleaners that might appear below you, and
head left once outside the window. Follow the ledge all the way. Jump over it
when you meet gaps, and shoot the cleaner that will attack from an open
window. You will eventually make your way to a open window that you should
use to get back into the building. Pick up a painkiller found on top of a
drawer, and exit the room.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 1, Chapter 5 - A Sign of Her Passage [Wal105]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, now you're one step closer to Mona, aren't you? You lucky Detective!

Well, run straight forward through a white door. Kill the cleaners that are
waiting for you, but watch out for their grenades. One of them will drop a
painkiller. Run all the way up as long as you can and get the Kalashnikov ammo
from all of the crates. Now run down again until you hear a man screaming. Run
into the wooden piece that is blocking the door, and let this bum follow you
further down the stairs. He used to be a police officer, after all. You will
get to some smaller stairs once you're done with the bigger ones. At the
bottom, go through the 'EXIT' door, and talk to the prostitute. Turn around
and walk down the corridor and kill three cleaners at the far end.

Enter the basement by using the door that the last cleaners came from. At the
bottom of the basement, use the valve there to turn of the gas to stop a fire
longer up in the building. With the bum and the prostitute still following,
head upwards again, and kill three cleaners on your way up. Now, go back to
the floor where you first met the bum when he was trapped behind a door. At
the end of the corridor, go to the left into a room that has been destroyed by
fire. If you go right once you're in here, you can get two painkillers. Well,
jump out of the leftmost window, equip the Kalashnikov, and shoot the cleaners
that will appear below you. Use the gap to walk as far as you can, and more
cleaners will appear. Kill them all, and jump onto the stairway at the end of
the ledge. Use it to go all the way to the top, onto another ledge, and then
jump across a gap to yet another ledge.

Now, jump onto a new stairway. It will collapse. Be careful, and drop down to
a new stairway to the right, and when this one collapses, drop down to one on
the left. At the bottom, you will meet lots of cleaners. Dual Ingrams. Pang,
pang, boom!

A graphical novel will shot Bravura, going mad over what he says is a
kindergarten of people going berserk and killing each other. He takes pills to
cool himself down. Max thinks about what really happened, and the fact that
Vladimir told him that Vinnie Gognitti was behind all this. Well, back at the
office, Max sees that Mona has tried to call him. Winterson catches Max while
calling back, and tells him to not do anything stupid. Max gets Mona's home
address.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 1, Chapter 6 - A Linear Sequence of Scares [Wal106]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max arrives at the address Mona gave him. In fact, Mona is living in an
abandoned theme park made by the people behind the cult television series
Address Unknown. Mona has her freaky was, yes, yes she certainly has.

Walk past the slopes and you'll see a sign saying 'Welcome to Noir York City'.
Continue onto the road. To the left, a girl made of paper looks like she's
bleeding to death, under the letters 'The Flesh of Fallen Angels'. This might
refer to Lisa Puchinello, Mona's sister. Continue walking on the road, past
inverted letters saying 'Mirrors are more fun than television', walk past a
paper girl getting off-headed by a murderer, and answer the phone. A
artificial voice will tell 'John' to watch out for the murderer in the
television series. Go into a cage, it will take you to 'The Pink Bird Mental
Institute'. Walk until you pass a bathroom with the letters 'Murderer' on the
floor, and into a new cage that will take you upwards. Continue walking. You
will get to a room with spinning floors. Go towards 'Schizo Street'. Answer
the phone, and progress through the black spinning room with all the stars.
Now walk left and go behind the scenes.

If you enter the first door on your right hand, you can play around with the
games engine. There's balls, tires, a balancing piece of wood and so on.
Nothing big though. Well, get out again and continue running. Go up the
stairs, keep running forward and jump onto the roof to your right. Jump inside
the window. In here, you can see a Dick Justice poster, a photograph of Mona
and Lisa, and a Lords and Ladies show on the TV. In the kitchen at the far
left, there is no food in the fridge, but some apples and a painkiller on the
table. Walk into the next room, and Max realizes that this is where Mona
lives. Steal Mona's MP5's, ammo and Painkillers that lie scattered around. If
you look at the wall near the weights, there is a great easter egg in the form
of a poster where Kenneth Yeung is mentioned. Yeung is the creator of a Kung
Fu mod for Max Payne 1. Well, go into the bathroom to meet Mona. Now, watch
Mona's back when she gets dressed. Or, pretend like you're doing that.

In the graphical novel, Max asks Mona about exactly who is trying to kill
them. Mona says that The Inner Circle wants everyone who knows about them
dead; she has a contact inside. Max thinks she means Alfred Woden. Mona does
not, and offers to take Max to her contact.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1, Chapter 7 - The Million Dollar Question [Wal107]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A graphical novel shows Max and Mona driving to meet Mona's insider contact.
However, when they arrive at the correct location, the cleaners have also
arrived, and have killed off the security guards. Mona gives Max a microphone
and a headphones so that they can stay in touch while Max goes upstairs, and
Mona controls the elevators.

While going upwards, Max asks Mona about how come she's still alive, after
taking a bullet in the first game. Mona says that the bullet might still be
there. Well, now you've arrived, and the elevator opens. Go forward, use a
weapon's shot to show the bad guys that you're here, and some
cleaners will attack from the left. Shoot them down, and enter the first room
on your right hand after having faced the cleaners. Inside this room, there's
lots of blood on the floor, and some cleaners are standing around. Kill them
off. Mona will tell you that several Inner Circle members like in this
building. Go inside the bathroom to find a skinny guy lying dead in the bath.
This is not Corcoran, the man you are looking for. Well, take the painkillers
from the medicinal cupboard and exit the room from where you entered. Walk all
the way to the other side, and try to open the door. You will hear a girl
having sex with someone. She is without a doubt making things sound 'hotter'
than they really are. Well, turn around and go to the opposite side of the
room again, but this time, try the door to the left of the one you used last
time.

This door is locked, and Mona tells you to go back and enter the skinny
guy's room again. Well, listen to her and do so. Walk out on the balcony,
then left past a fence, and into the room you can see through the window.
Note that it is possible to do this directly, but there was a certain thing
you wanted to listen to, wasn't there? Anyways, Max will tell Mona that
he's in. Go upstairs, kill a bucketload of cleaners using Ingrams, steal
the painkillers in the bathroom, and enter the bedroom to find Corcoran
dead. Max sees a picture of The Inner Circle on the drawer in the bedroom,
but has to hurry back.

Still being upstairs, take the door that leads out of the room and to the
right. A cleaner will attack, so take him down. Now you're attacked by lots of
cleaners coming from the room to your right. Shoot them all to death, and then
run down the stairs to the left of where all the cleaners were shot down. Down
here, a cleaner will be playing 'A Late Goodbye' on the piano. Listen, then
kill him and his friends, and send them to heaven by playing your own tune on
the piano. Before going out on the balcony, you might want to try shooting at
the balls on the poolboard. Once on the balcony, go left, shoot the two
cleaners and drop down the the balcony they lie on.

Enter a new room through the white door. Shoot the cleaners you can see
quickly, and head to the kitchen to your right for some cover while taking out
the rest. Note that there is a cleaner in the kitchen that you will need to
kill before taking cover. When they are all dead, exit the room by going
straight forward from the kitchen, kill three cleaners, and enter the door to
the left of the dead cleaners. Go past the stairs and into a bathroom to get
four painkillers, then head down the stairs.

Mona will tell you to go right, but instead go forward to watch an episode of
Address Unknown, about John entering the club named 'The Pink Flamingo', and
getting chased away by men in clean, white uniforms. Well, now to what Mona
told you to do. A cleaner will attack you, but after he's dead Mona will tell
you that she's out of ideas. Well, enter the room the cleaner was guarding,
kill the two cleaners in here, and then... Mona will be attacked by cleaners.
Max's contact with Mona is broken.

Jump out of the open window, press the button to go downwards, and jump all
the way down, while watching out for grenades that are being dropped down
at you. At the bottom you will see a man being blown out of a window. If
you kill the cleaner inside, but run past the window and lean against the
wall, you can get into a shrine at the other side of the corner. This is a
shrine dedicated to Miika Forssell. Now go back and enter the window, and
collect the painkillers on the table. Exit the room, kill some cleaners,
and watch the hardass cleaner Kaufman, which is the one in command here,
enter from an elevator along with some subordinates. Equip the Kalashnikov
or the Ingrams, or the MP5 if you feel like. Activate Bullet Time, and
shoot Kaufman and all the other nearby cleaners from behind the wall you
are standing close to. Headshots will make this easier than you think. Some
cleaners will also attack from behind, so watch out for them. Once Kaufman
is dead, an elevator will open, and a cleaner will attack. Now, you can
either go into the elevator to end the level, or go back into the room you
came into using the window, and turn on the TV for an easter egg featuring
GTA-like graphics.

At the end, a cut-scene will show Winterson, along with NYPD officers. They
have arrested Mona, and Winterson asks Max about what the heck he has been
doing here. The million dollar question. Congratulations, you are now through
with Part 1 of Max Payne 2. If hope you've enjoyed the game so far.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 2, Prologue [Wal108]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The graphical novel shows a mad Bravura. Payne tries to explain that what
happened just recently, and Winterson's case are connected to each other, as
the cleaners were involved in both of them. Bravura doesn't want to listen,
eats some pills, and gives you a desk job.

Walk over to Max's desk. It's located straight forward, then the second one on
the left hand. Winterson's phone will ring. Max will try to answer, but the
one calling hangs up. The officer nearby will tell you that Winterson has a
blind kid and kicked out her husband some time ago. At the nearby table, you
can see that there is a small poster from 'Brooklyn School of The Blind'.

Now, if you listen to the man sitting in a conversation with a police officer
at the other side of the office, you'll hear the best crime ever made. At
least the funnies one. Well, now enter the interrogation room that you can
find close to the officer that told you about Winterson's kid. Talk to the man
inside, and then go back to your desk to find Winterson leaking information
about you. Now walk into the REC room to watch and episode of Lords and
Ladies. You can find the room close to Bravura's office. After this, open the
nearby doors, and head down the stairs, and then down to the lockup. Get to
the prison cells. Mona is in the one closest to the left. Before you reach her
cell, watch the bum puking all over the floor in one of the cells. Mona will
tell you to call Alfred Woden. Leave, and start going back. Borrow the phone
right outside the lockup. After you've left a message at Woden's answering
machine, a bomb will explode. Watch the cut-scene where cleaners attack the
station, and Mona escapes from her cell. Now, get to the door near Mona's
cell, and kill the cleaners on your way. Clean the parking lot of bad guys,
and run out through the main entrance.

A graphical novel shows Vladimir driving by. He picks up Max and gives him a
ride. In the back of his car, he has a Captain Baseballbat Boy costume for
Vinnie Gognitti. A Trojan horse, as he calls it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 2, Chapter 1 - The Things That I Want [Wal109]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll meet up with Mona, and make out with her. Unfortunately, the scene is
interrupted by some cleaners that have followed you.

Shoot and kill the two cleaners in front of you behind the fence. Turn around,
and kill two other cleaners that are running in the stairs to your left.
Instead of going up the stairs right away, jump on the crate in front of you
and then forward to reach some Kalashnikovs. Now run up the stairs and into
the first room you see. Pull the lever in here, pick up the painkillers and
then shoot two cleaners through the window. Go back, and head further up the
stairs, all the way to the top. Enter the room, and kill the cleaners below
you. Go to the right part of the room, through a hidden door, and pull the
lever to make the huge syringe break the wall below you. Shoot and kill any
cleaners in sight when looking at the syringe, and head through the other door
in the room you're standing in. Kill all the cleaners you meet, and run down
the stairs. At the bottom, turn around and run until you see a door to exit
through.

A cut-scene shows Mona shooting a cleaner with her sniper. Take out the rest
of them, and wait for more of them to arrive. Run through the gate the new
cleaners came through, and kill the cleaner you meet in the room with the
paper girl doll. Out on the street again, Mona will shoot at the cleaners
using an Ingram. Kill the remaining ones, and a door will open in the fake
garage for you to run through. Equip the Kalashnikov if you've got ammo left,
and start shooting the cleaners that you can see. The first one is on top of a
circle, and the rest are pretty far away. Just don't run forwards too quick,
as there's some nasty explosions waiting for you if you're not careful. Once
the cleaners are dead, head through the door at the far end of the room, kill
a cleaner, and watch the scene where Max gets into one of the cleaners' car.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 2, Chapter 2 - In The Middle of Something [Wal110]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Get back into the van and pick up some painkillers and some ammo. Walk to the
right and out of the parking lot and kill two cleaners. Head up the stairs,
enter the door to your left, then walk up the stairs in the next room, kill
two cleaners and listen to Mona on the radio. Head into another room after
you've killed the two cleaners, and blow up the explosives while standing at a
nice distance. This will open the elevator's path. Drop down in the elevator,
and go through two doors - both on your right side. Now you are outside again.

Shoot the man on the top of the small building, or as an alternative, shoot at
the explosives in front of you. Take down the two cleaners that are guarding
the area from the ground, and then head into the small building the first
cleaner was guarding, and then walk up the stairs for some ammo and some
painkillers. Go down again, then right through a door to kill two other
cleaners. If you go right from here, you can revisit the parking lot for some
painkillers, and overhear a conversation. If you go forward instead, you'll
continue making progress. Assuming you went straight forward, you should get
to a room where there is a path formed like a square. Kill all the cleaners in
this area. Inside the first room on your right hand if you chose to start out
left on the square-path (read that slowly, will you), there are four
painkillers.

In the next room on the left hand, there is a television airing Lords and
Ladies, as well as one painkiller. Now, if you think of the path outside of
the room as a square, you should use the door at the top of the square to
exit. Just take out the cleaners as you go. Make your way up two stages, but
watch out for the gaps that you'll need to jump past. In this room, there's
two cleaners to your left. Well, go left, and then down a corridor to shoot
another cleaner. He'll fall through a gap when he's dead. Enter the room to
the right of where this cleaner was shooting from, and go right through the
room. Here, a cleaner is hiding behind a crate, and two other are just around
the corner. They might throw grenades at you, so watch out. Kill them off, and
you'll hear some voices from behind the white door to the left of the corner.
Go through this door, walk into the hole in the wall, and kill the four
cleaners in the next room. This was where the voices were really coming from,
I just fooled you. Anyways, there's two doors that you can walk through. Take
the one to the right first to find lots of ammo behind one of the office
walls. Then take the door to the left, but watch out for the gap in front of
it.

Max will contact Mona regarding all the explosives and arms he just ran into.
Max says these guys are professional, but Mona doesn't think it looks that way
from 'where she's standing'.

Collect all the MP5 ammo and painkillers in this room, and walk through a door
to start making your way upwards. Once you're up at the next floor, go through
a door to the right. Shoot at the explosives to blow them up, and then jump
over the gap. Some cleaners will shoot at you from below, so take them out
using your Desert Eagle. Now walk through the door you can see at your side of
the gap. Get into the open elevator, jump on some ammo crates, and you'll get
to the next floor. Walk through the door on your left, shoot at the explosives
to destroy the 'bridge', and jump to your left and then jump onto the remains
of the bridge to get to another door. Inside this room, three commandos are
waiting, so be careful. Make your way up to the next floor using the stairs,
and you'll see that the cleaners and the commandos are the same guys. Walk
even further up to another floor, and kill the cleaner that's standing behind
the door. Walk to the right over another bridge, and equip the Dual Ingrams,
as the next room has plenty of bad guys. Kill them all, steal their
painkillers from a crate, and go through the door nearby. You'll get to a room
with lots of bodybags, and a graphical novel will start.

Max has found the room where the cleaners hide all the people they've killed.
The air stinks. Max tells Mona to call the cops, but she tells him to go to
hell, as she's a fugitive.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 2, Chapter 3 - Blowing Up [Wal111]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some cleaners will spot Max and start shooting at him. However, when they
realize that they hit the explosives, they escape as fast as they can. Max
manages to avoid the explosion, and Mona asks him about what's going on.
Max replies, and tells her that the building is blowing up.

Walk straight forward, and collect the painkillers from the red box on the
floor. Go right in the corridor, pass some explosive barrels, and get into
the door on your right. A cleaner will shout 'Payne!', but he'll be killed
by an explosion. Head through the hole in the wall, and shoot at the
explosives that you will find close to a crack in the wall here. Stay at a
good distance when doing this. You've just made a new hole in the wall, so
use it to get further ahead. Be careful through, as you'll have to walk on
some metal planks, and into a new room to your left. Don't fall down. Make
your way through a corridor, but don't walk too fast as there's some
explosions in front of you. At the end when the fire blocks the path, drop
down, turn around, and run until you get to a room with two cleaners. Stay
to the right while shooting at them, as the ceiling will collapse at the
left side of the room. Head through the door, shoot a cleaner in the
corridor, and make your way all the way through the burning corridor.

The room you'll get to next has two cleaners and a box with painkillers.
Once you've killed and collected, look down the hole in the floor. Kill the
cleaners down here, and drop down yourself. Since there's a huge number of
explosives down here, you should not drop down before most, or all of the
cleaners have been shot. Drop down to a lower floor once again, walk
through a door, and you'll hear a man screaming 'I'm burning'. Around the
corner to the left, you can shoot him. Well, go around the right corner,
run forwards, and through the hole that you'll see on the left. In this
room, don't be too fast, but make your way to the other side of the room
using the path that is not burning in the middle of the room. There's some
furniture you'll have to watch out for, so don't go too fast. At the end,
you'll see a cut- scene where Max jumps out of the building and falls down
while Mona's asking him about what's going on. Max gets trapped under a
construction plate.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 2, Chapter 4 - Routing Her Synapses [Wal112]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Use the door on your left, shoot the bad guy at the top of the stairs, and
head through the door that's next to the one at the top. In here, use the
Dragunov to shoot a cleaners that's targeting you from the floor above you,
there's three of them, and run through the opening in this room, and then make
your way to the top. Up here, four cleaners will attack, so take them down.

You'll get to a room with a cleaner and a yellow construction lift. Use it
to go one floor down. Here, you will come to a long corridor with cleaners
guarding the area. Run down the corridor, take cover if you feel like, and
take down the attacking cleaners. Before going out of this room, snag the
painkillers close to all the construction blocks. Exit the room to your
right, head up a set of stairs, and shoot the bad guy behind you. Take
cover behind the nearby crate, and equip the Dragunov to make killing the
cleaners in front of you easy. Make your way to the top, and into a huge
room. First, take out all the cleaners you see, and then hide in the dark
room you can find in the corner of the room. Lots of commandos will enter
the room, so take them out by using Bullet Time and some good cover. The
dark room is a very good place to take cover. Once all the commandos are
down, collect the Painkillers from a red box at the floor, and then use the
nearby door to get out of this room. In the next room, there are no enemies,
but Max will talk to you and tell you that these guys are professionals. Go
into the next room, kill the six cleaners here, and jump down to a lower floor
to complete the level.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 2, Chapter 5 - Out of The Window [Wal112]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Listen to Max and Mona's little debate, and then collect the MP5 and ammo on
the floor. Turn around and wait for a cleaner to attack from above. Get out of
the small square of blocks that you're standing in, and head right. You'll see
a construction terrace. Walk outside on it, and shoot the cleaner you can see
at another terrace using the Dragunov. Head back, and go through the nearby
door. In here, there will be cleaners and commandos above you, and in front of
you on the floor. Kill the ones on the floor first without entering the room -
just open the door and kill them, and then enter the room to take out the ones
above you. Now walk up to where the bad guys where shooting at you from above
and get the painkillers there. When entering the next room, you will hear an
explosion. Continue running and you'll see Max jumping out of the building and
falling down. Several bad guys will see him and run towards him. Now, a bad
guy will kick in the door on your right. Kill him and run right until you get
to the ledge at the end. Here, equip the MP5 or the Dragunov, and kill all the
bad guys running towards Max. Max will get a grip of himself and start running
to the right. Give him cover, and kill all the bad guys that's left in the
area. Now, you'll have to watch the white building placed in the left part of
the area. This is where most of the new bad guys will appear. Just use Bullet
Time to get a good overview, and shoot anything that moves besides Max, of
course. A bad guy or two will also start shooting from the middle of the
area. Max will try to open a door, but he can't get through. Shoot all the
enemies you can see, but since you won't be able to hit the ones behind the
building, you will have to be a good girl and head back into where you can
from, through two doors on you left, and then kill the commandos that will
attack.

In the room where the two commandos attack, there is a construction terrace.
Go out on it, and kill the bad guys that are shooting at Max from behind the
white building. Max will run a little, so cover him. When he stops, run back
into where you came from, then left. Kill two cleaners, and watch the door at
the end of the room blow up. Run through the door, kill all the bad guys you
see, and pick up some painkillers. You will eventually make your way to a new
terrace. Make sure that all the nearby commandos and cleaners are dead before
you start shooting the bad guys that are giving Max a hard time down in the
courtyard. Now, run up the stairs on your right, and Max will start moving as
well. Head into the building, and drop down through an opening in the floor to
complete the level.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 2, Chapter 6 - The Genius of The Hole [Wal114]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shoot the thug in front of you to make him fall down. Collect the Dragunov
that he dropped, and start shooting at the explosives near the building down
to your left. Take out the remaining bad guys, and Max will run and try to
open a door. It's locked. Head back to where you came from, go all the way
right, and kill the commandos. Two new commandos will come through the door
when they hear you as well. Kill them, and pick up the M4 Carbines that they
drop. Go through the door, and out on the terrace. Shoot the enemies that are
located down on the ground to your left. Max will start talking to you. Head
up the nearby stairs, and into the building again. Now, at the left side of
this room, there is a terrace. Ignore the terrace, and go through the door in
this room. Kill all the bad guys that attack you. Continue running, drop down
to the left once you meet two bad guys, kill them, and enter the building
again. Run over a bridge, and music will start playing.

Kill all the commandos you meet, and run all the way down the construction
planks, while taking down bad guys. This is what you'll be doing for a while
now. Take down everyone you meet, and run downwards. Do this until you're at
the bottom of a long stairway. You'll find yourself down in the courtyard.
Shoot the bad guys down on the ground, and then take down the ones shooting at
you from above. At the far left of the courtyard, enter a red lift. Now, watch
the graphical novel. Poor Winterson, poor Max, lucky Mona. Ok, you're done
with the second part of the game. The best is still to come. Unbelievable!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 3, Prologue [Wal115]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It all starts out at the hospital, in the usual wacky way Max sees the world
when he's been wrecked down. Max chose Mona over his job. Max imagines Mona
standing over him, smiling like a devil. Mona is moaning, and calls for Max.
She wants him to follow her. Max gets up of bed, and starts the chase.

Get out of the room and start running right through the corridor. Follow it,
and it will suddenly look much older and broken down. Max realizes that this
is a line of prison cells, and that different parts of himself are trapped in
the various cells. One is the Paranoid Max, one is the Insane Max, the third
one is Mad Max (not Mel Gibson, though), and the last one is the Schizophrenic
Max. When you've passed all the cells you will hear Mona moaning. She is
taking a shower. If you shootdodge, you can see her naked from behind. The
surroundings quickly change. Run through the corridor that is falling apart,
and you'll the the letters MonA saX change into MAX. Walk right, and you'll
see the event where Winterson was shot on the TV. Mona tells you that
Winterson is one of 'them'.

Run up the stairs, and you'll meet a dying Bravura. Listen to his words, and
continue. Listen to the tape-recorder, and run up the stairs on your left or
right. You'll meet Winterson and Mona. They'll kill you after the phone rings
and Vladimir starts talking. Remember that this is all Max's imagination.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 3, Chapter 1 - Too Stubborn To Die [Wal116]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max is at the hospital, but this time he's a little more sane than in the
prologue. He's watching Winterson's dead body. He thought things couldn't get
any worse. All the way along until he finds a matchbox with the letters
'VODKA' in Winterson's pocket. Commandos have arrived at the hospital, and one
of them is standing outside, just waiting to kill you off. You're unarmed.
Before doing something serious, check out the blackboard - it shows you that
Winterson was 42 years old.

Pick up the four painkillers in the medicinal cupboard behind you. Now, run
through the door that the Commando is waiting outside of to make him fall down
on the floor. Start running into the big door on your left. The commando will
chase you while shouting that you're 'a stupid fuck'. Run upwards using the
stairs until you get to the second door. Open up and get inside. Run left, and
inside the surgery with the white door. You'll get to a dead policeman. Walk
to the right in this room, and into the door saying 'Recovery'.
You'll get to an office area. Walk between all the office walls, as it's very
dark there. A cleaner and a commando will start looking for you. The cleaner
guards the door, and the commando starts looking. Hide in the dark until a
security guard runs into the area. He gets killed by the cleaner.

Pick up the gun that the security guard dropped, and shoot the commando and
the cleaner to death for their sins. If you haven't done so already, there is
a painkiller on one of the desks in the dark that you can pick up. There is
another one in one of the lockers as well. Now exit the room through the door
the security guard used before he died.

Open up and walk into the small white door on your left. Inside, there's ammo
and a painkiller. Walk to the right, towards the door you can see at the right
side of the room, and a man will be blown towards you with commandos coming
after him. Activate Bullet Time and give them some headshots. Collect all
their Kalashnikovs, and all the ammo from the lockers. Run out the door in
front of you, and watch an episode of Address Unknown. After the episode is
done, turn around and walk towards the 'We Care' poster. Turn left and shoot
the Commandos. Enter the first door on your right hand, and collect the four
painkillers from the medicinal cupboard. Go out of this room again, and
continue down the corridor.

Several commandos will be waiting for you at the end of the corridor, close to
the room with all the blue balls on the left side. Kill them all using the
Kalashnikov, and go through the door at the end, close to a painkiller poster.
You might want to blow up the gas containers here, but then again, you don't
need to. In the room to your left, there is a commando, and a painkiller
inside a green locker. Go through the door, and watch Lords and Ladies on the
TV to your right once you've entered the next room. There is a small door
saying 'Exit'. Equip a good weapon. MP5, Colt or Kalashnikov, and open up the
door. Run all the way down the stairs, and take out everyone in your way.
The total number of commandos in the stairs is about eight. At the bottom,
there is a parking lot. A police officer will be shot. Equip the MP5 and use
the scope to take down the commandos in the parking lot. A new one will enter
through a door on the left side. Run towards the door, and a graphical novel
will start.

The novel shows Max, as he drives out of the city. He's headed for Alfred
Woden's place. Woden explains everything. The man has cancer, he is starting
to loose power within The Inner Circle, and at the top of that, a renegade
faction has been giving him a hard time. Who is behind all this? Vladimir Lem,
not Vinnie Gognitti like Vladimir made Max think. The cleaners are Vladimir's
men. If Vladimir gets things like he wants them, Vinnie Gognitti will die, and
then, he'll come for Woden himself. Things just got worse, didn't they?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 3, Chapter 2 - On a Crash Course [Wal117]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Payback time. Max finds his way to the restaurant Vladimir owns. If you've
followed this walkthrough, Mike the Cowboy will hopefully have survived last
time you met him, because if he did, he will be taunting you over the speakers
during this level.

Well, equip the MP5 and hide behind the wall to your left. The thugs will be
watching an episode of Captain Baseballbat Boy. Watch it together with them
from behind the wall, and then start taking them down one after the another.
Headshots are advised. Mike will start speaking, telling everyone to get their
weapons and kill Payne. Head towards the television, pick up all the ammo that
the thugs dropped, and walk to the right past the bar, and into a door behind
you. There's lots of ammo for the M4 Carbine here, so pick it up, and go back.
You will also find the Striker in here, so you'll be a happy man now.
In the bar, you can also find a few painkillers. If you walk past the bar, but
don't turn around like you recently did, you will see a door to your right. Go
inside, and kill the thugs.

You will now find yourself inside a kitchen. Run to the opposite side of the
kitchen and pick up some painkillers. To your left, there will be a door.
Enter the door, and take everyone inside down. There's a mob above you that
you should concentrate on first. Now walk up the stairs, and enter the
rightmost door at the other side of the room. Several thugs will attack, so be
prepared. In the next room, there's some ammo for your M4 Carbine in the left
corner. One you've got the ammo, go back and start running up the stairs
located close to where you entered the room.

At the top, a thug is hiding behind one of the boxes. Kill him, and proceed
through a door. Here, two thugs will be shooting at you from a room on your
left side. Kill them, and take the painkillers close to them. Now, enter
through yet another door. There will be an uniform standing raised like a man
here. Ignore it and run to the opposite side of the room. Take down two men. A
thug will now enter the door from behind you, and blow up the explosives. A
opening in the wall will be made. Use it to get to the room with all the
stairs. Shoot all the enemies in the room using MP5. Use the stairs to get to
the bottom of the room, and go through the door that has opened down here.

You will get to a room with two thugs in the opposite side of where you
entered. Once they are dead, open the door that you will see, and several
thugs will attack. Kill them and run down the stairs. At the bottom, go
through a door, kill the thugs, and pick up the painkillers in a cupboard on
the wall. There will be cleaner cars here, so no doubt about Vladimir being
guilty. Well, run through the door to your right after having watched Lords
and Ladies.

Head up the stairs, kill the thug in the middle of them, and listen to Mike
taunting you, saying that he's waiting for you. Kill the mobs in the room at
the top of the stairs, and run left up another set of stairs. Kill the two
thugs guarding the room up here, and enter the nearby door to find Mike and
another thugs speaking into the microphone. Shoot them in the head before they
notice anything. Now, listen to the answering machine found on the desk in
this room.

A graphical novel will explain that Winterson had called Vladimir, and told
him that she would kill both Mona and Max at the construction site. Winterson
had a relationship to Vladimir. She had also let Vladimir meet her son. This
gets deeper and deeper, doesn't it?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 3, Chapter 3 - A Mob-War [Wal118]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max heads for Gognitti's place using a cleaner van. He's stopped by Gognitti's
men, and crashes. He gets on his feet, and is now ready to kick some ass.
Unfortunately for Payne, the Commandos have also arrived.

Make your way to the room with the stairs. Open up the green door at the
bottom and shoot two commandos. Head up the stairs and kill the commandos
there. Walk even further up the stairs and you'll see a crack in the wall. Run
into it to break the wall. Open a door, walk inside a new door on your left,
and then watch an episode of Dick Justice before walking through yet another
door on your left side. You'll see a sign saying 'Vincent's Sweet Deals on
Wheels'. Enter the building using an opening to your right. There's some
enemies at the top of the stairs, so take them down, and then run down the
stairs. You will meet more bad guys, so shoot them to death, and enter through
the open door to your left. There's some planks here that you can use as a
bridge to get to the other side of the street. However, kill the enemies down
in the street before you cross.

You will get to a new set of stairs. Walk all the way up, and watch the dirty
movie while standing behind the mafia members. In the movie, the same sound as
the ones you heard inside the room in the building where Corcoran was killed.
Kill the bad guys, and run one floor down the stairs after having collected
some painkillers from the nearby bathroom. In this room, you should go to the
right, and out on some planks you can see through a hole in the wall. There's
two bad guys here, so be careful. Walk over the planks and into the next room
for a cut-scene where some mafia members think Max is their backup. Follow
them, and help them kill the commandos down at the street. Watch the walls, as
lots of commandos will be jumping down from them. The MP5 is a good choice.
Now, just after the street goes to the left, get behind your 'friends' and
shoot them all to death, as another mafia member will appear and blow your
cover. Well, run left, kill the mafia member that appears, and exit using the
door that's close to the sign saying 'All Trucks Keep Right'. In here, a car
with commandos will appear. Kill all the commandos, as well as the mafia
members, to complete the stage.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 3, Chapter 4 - Dearest of All My Friends [Wal119]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll finally meet Vinnie. Vladimir has set him up, and managed to get him
into a huge Captain Baseballbat Boy costume. If he tries to take it off, he
will explode. Max decides to help Vinnie, as Vinnie promises to lead him to
Vladimir. Meanwhile, the building is being surrounded by commandos, and
Vinnie's mafia members seem to have been reduced considerably.

First, shoot the commandos that are trying to kill you from outside of the
windows behind you. Then, open all the lockers in the room to snag some
painkillers. Also, before doing anything else, head into the room with the big
Kalashnikov poster. Shoot the lock at one of the cupboards to find a Striker
and lots of ammo. There's also weapons inside the normal cupboard in this
room, and some M4 Carbines in the nearby storeroom. Head back to the room
where you started, equip the M4 Carbine and jump out of the window. Use Bullet
Time to easily take out all the commandos that drop down from the huge wall,
until they stop appearing. Head back into the room where Vinnie is waiting.

Follow Vinnie into a new room, and kill the commandos that jump in from the
window. Vinnie will realize that he can't get through the exit door, as the
bomb will blow up. Snag the painkillers from the nearby locker, and then kill
the commandos that once again have jumped in from the window. Some commandos
will also appear behind you. Follow Vinnie into a new room. Let him take the
elevator, pick up the painkillers from a medicinal cupboard, and wait for
commandos to appear from both left and right sides. Kill them, and then go up
using the stairs. Meet Vinnie here, and follow him into his stove. Lots of
commandos will enter the room from behind you. Kill them all. You'll see that
Vinnie is a collector that has about everything regarding Captain Baseballbat
Boy. Well, continue into the living room and watch Captain Baseballbat Boy
episode 169. There's some painkillers in a cupboard in the living room. Walk
into Vinnie's bedroom and listen to the answering machine. One message is from
the godfather. He tells Vinnie that he should never have started the war with
the Russians. The second message was left by a girl that Vinnie beat up when
she tried to 'spank' him. The last message is from Mona, warning Vinnie and
telling him that Vladimir is trying to get him.

Walk out to the balcony, and kill all the commandos below you. If you can't
see any commandos, shoot straight forward after having gotten to the balcony,
so that the wall gets blown away. Jump down, and
a car will arrive. Kill all the commandos inside it and follow Vinnie. Another
car will arrive, and commandos will be appearing on top of the walls as well.
Use the MP5 to take them all down. Shoot the ones at top of the walls before
taking out the others. Now Vinnie will open a garage. Run up the stairs, and
press the button up here to take Vinnie along with you. Go through the hole in
the wall. Let Vinnie run first, and wait for lots of commandos to appear. Just
stand around, and activate Bullet Time when they arrive. Kill them all, and
then follow Vinnie to his car.

A graphical novel will show Payne and Vinnie searching for Mona. They drive to
the theme park where Mona lives. Vladimir is waiting for them, and he doesn't
sound like he's going to give you candy. Vladimir leaves you in a inferno of
fire to die, but Mona comes to the rescue.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 3, Chapter 5 - A Losing Game [Wal120]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Run down the stairs, jump from the stairs and down to the paper doll on the
floor, and then run right and wait for the wall in front of you to fall down.
From here, jump down, run towards the red paper car, and then quickly to the
left in order to avoid an explosion. Jump over another dark colored paper car,
and wait here until the nearby wall explodes. Run through the exploded wall,
past the flamingo with the burning eye, and the wall to your left will fall
down. A huge pole of tree that supported the wall will fall down as well. Use
it to get up on the big container, and down to the other side of the flames.
Run through the hole where a doll with a knife will fly out from, and you'll
hear voices talking about 'The Flesh of Fallen Angels'.

Now run into the corridor with the red light. A huge round pole will soon
start rolling, so run left towards it, and then behind it before it starts
rolling. Now run after the rolling pole, collect some painkillers from a
medicinal cupboard, and press the fire emergency button to make water start
flowing from the ceiling. You'll now get to a lot of electronic generators.
Use the door on your left, watch out for falling crates, and press the button
you'll get to. Go back to the generators, and up the nearby stairs. Just don't
freak out because the light disappears; it will be back in a second. At the
top of the stairs, run forward to see what remains of Vinnie. A little further
ahead, you will find Max lying in a pool of blood.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 3, Chapter 6 - There Are No Happy Endings [Wal121]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a graphical novel, you'll see how Vladimir shot Max because Max would never
settle and live the way things are. And, he did kill Winterson.

An officer will greet you at the start. Go meet Bravura at a murder scene.
Suddenly, Bravura is lying down in a new room, dying. Run into the lineup
room, and chase the Max that you meet. Along the way, you can read the text on
the wall 'She had dyed her hair red', and 'The flesh of fallen angels'. The
cleaner is singing 'A Late Goodbye'. The other Max will shout that he has been
freed, and shoot towards you. Follow him. In the next room there is a
television. Vinnie is begging for his life, and you can see a Captain
Baseballbat Boy figure close to the TV. Also, on the TV you can see Vladimir,
talking about playing a little game with Max.

Continue running until you get to the last door in the corridor. Enter here to
hear Vladimir talking from a television. On the wall, there's letters saying
'V for Vlad'. In Max Payne 1, V means Valkyr. In the labyrinth of doors, walk
straight forward, left, then keep going forward. Mona will appear behind Max.
Max tries to kill her, but is out of ammo.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Part 3, Chapter 7 - Love Hurts [Wal122]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you arrive at the manor, Max tries to sneak in, but is spotted. He drops
down from where he's hanging, and takes cover behind a car.

Well, start by activating Bullet Time, and take out the two cleaners running
towards you. Mona has made a run for it and disappeared. Take down the two
commandos on the balcony. When things have cooled down a little, open the door
on the van that you were taking cover behind to find some painkillers. Now you
can enter the manor itself. Open the main door, but be sure to have Bullet
Time activated, as there's two commandos here. Use a quick weapon to send
them straight to hell. Now try open up the door on the top of the little
stairway. Some commandos will to blow up the room and make the ceiling
fall down. You can survive by first standing in one of the edges of the room,
and then, after the middle part of the ceiling has fallen down, run to the
middle of the room to avoid any other falling parts. The door will now open,
and a bad guy will shoot at you. Kill him, enter through the door, and take
out his mate. You can play the piano in this room if you fell like.

Now go through the glass door in this room, and take out two bad guys here.
Start shooting at a bad guy on the balcony, and Mona will enter the area and
kill off the rest. Max tells Mona to secure the second floor, and continues on
the first floor himself. Some windows will open, and two commandos will shoot
at you. Take cover behind the fountain, and shoot back. Get into the corridor
they were shooting from once they are dead. To the right of the biggest door
in the corridor, there is a smaller door that you can open. In this room, snag
the painkillers from the cupboard, and watch an amazing episode of Lords and
Ladies. Now exit this room through a nearby door.

You will now find yourself in a library. Start by taking out the commandos
down at the same floor as you, and then shoot at the ones above you. You'll
need a fast weapon here, like the M4 Carbine or the Ingrams. While shooting at
the bad guys above, try not standing in the middle of the room, but away from
the shelves in one of the corners. Mona will start helping Max after a while.
When they're done killing, Max will tell Mona to look for Vladimir or Woden.
Two bad guys will kick open a door, so kill them as fast as you can. Proceed
through this door, and shoot the commandos you meet. There are some cupboards
in this corridor, where you can find some painkillers.

In the next room, you should take cover behind a block, then shoot the
commando that will attack from the right. Another bad guy will appear on the
balcony to your left now, so shoot him. There is also a commando on the left
side of the room. Mona will appear, and start shooting. Several enemies will
enter through a door. Kill them, and walk inside this door. There is a bad guy
waiting for you in the stairs, and another bad guy at the top will throw a
grenade. Kill them both and avoid the grenade. At the top of the stairs, a
commando is also waiting. Now go into the nearby room and kill two bad guys.
Check the screen in this room to find out that Woden's bodyguards have
betrayed him. Woden is still safe, but Vladimir has arrived.

Now collect the painkillers from the lockers in this room, and continue into
the next one to see a Address Unknown episode. To the left, there is a new
door. Use it. Shoot the two commandos that you run into. When you get outside,
run down and take out all the commandos that were shooting at you, and then
enter the building at the other side of where you came from. You will meet
Mona. She is at the other side of the room. Max will tell her to try and get
to Woden that hides in his panic room. Run left, kill the commandos you meet,
both up on the floor you are on and below, until a cut-scene where Mona and
Max enters a door appears. Mona knows how to use the secret lock. A graphical
novel will show Mona hitting Max's head and telling him to stop all this, and
that she is the one that should clean up. This is love, Max thinks. Suddenly,
Vladimir enters the room and shoots Mona. Woden tells Vladimir to stop, as he
has also suddenly appeared.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 3, Chapter 8 - That Old Familiar Feeling [Wal123]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things are getting messy, don't you think? Vladimir shoots Woden, Max attacks
Vladimir, and they both fall through the floor. Down here, Vladimir gives Max
a solid kick, and escapes. Max however, was hiding the Desert Eagle that
Vladimir dropped.

Shoot and kill the suit in front of you. Pick up his weapon and continue
running. A container will fall down behind you. Shoot and kill another suit to
trigger the countdown to an explosion. Go back to the container, shut the
door, and wait for the big bang. Collect the painkillers that are inside the
container and then go out of it again. A wall has been blown up, so drop down
and kill the man down here. Someone will drop a bottle of explosives down, be
quick and continue running. In the next room, kill two bad guys and pick up
lots of Kalashnikov ammo from the crates. Continue running. Go up the stairs,
and watch some explosives destroy a part. Jump over the gap that was made.
Vladimir will ask you how you like the fireworks. Of course you like them, so
continue running and get into the door at the top of the stairs. Two bad guys
will be waiting in this corridor. Under the next set of stairs, there's lots
of crates. An enemy is hiding under them, so kill him and run up the stairs.
There is a door here. When you've entered, two grenades will fly at you.
Activate Bullet Time, run up the stairs, kill two enemies, then run further
and kill another two enemies. At the top, Vladimir curses you from the other
side of a bullet-proof glass wall. The wall will open up. Continue into the
next room and kill the two suits. Pick up all the ammo and painkillers, and
listen to Woden's answering machine to hear a message from Mona, and a pretty
psychotic one from Vladimir. Turn on the TV to find out that Bravura survived
after all.

Now, enter the elevator. At the top, kill two bad guys that attack from the
front and the left, and then a commando that attacks from the upper right part
of the room. One of them drops a painkiller. Get into the door and watch the
stairs explode. Press the button to bring the lift down to you. Vladimir will
shoot at you, and press the button close to him to bring the lift back, so
press your button once more when this happens. Use Bullet Time to avoid
Vladimir's shots. When you get close to the top, Vladimir will escape and two
commandos will attack. Now, the final battle will start.

First, use the MP5 or a similar weapon to shoot at the supporting units that
are holding Vladimir's 'floor' up. When you've shot three of them, Vladimir
will fall down. Now, do the same with the supporting units of the huge metal
object that is hanging above Vladimir. Use Bullet Time at this part, and make
sure you don't stand still several seconds at once, as the explosives that
Vladimir throw will explode quite fast. When you've shot down all four
supporting units, the metal object will fall down, but Vladimir will dodge the
falling object. Now, just serve Vladimir some headshots, and he'll be
defeated, and fall down only to crush his skull on the floor. Watch the ending
novel, and listen to 'A Late Goodbye'. Congratulations, you've completed Max
Payne 2. Now go for a harder difficulty setting.

Easter Eggs In Part 1 [Eas001]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

=================================================
Prologue
=================================================

Is This the Payne Residence?
----------------------------
In the room you get to after the scene where Max kissed Mona, you
will hear the voice of Nicole Horne saying 'Is This the Payne
Residence' if you use the phone inside the ICU-reception.

A Sad Detective
----------------
In the corridor after you've gotten your hands on a gun, there
are some drawings on the windows. They show Max as a policeman,
they show that he had a nice family, and they show that the family
got murdered. Max cries in the final drawing.

Vladimir's Vodka
------------------
In the room with the elevator you are supposed to use, you can see
Vladimir in a commercial for his new restaurant Vodka. This
commercial can be seen later in the game as well after different
TV-series.

=================================================
Elevator Doors
=================================================

Payne is no Fool
-----------------
If you kill the first cleaner before he leads you into a trap, Max
will mention that he wasn't fooled.

Sign of Ragnarock
------------------
You can find the Ragnarock sign in the room after you've killed
the two first cleaners. The Ragnarock is the building that has
been transformed into Vladimir's restaurant Vodka. Max visited it
during Max Payne 1.

We Gotta Stop Meeting Like This
---------------------------------
Just like in Max Payne 1, Mona says 'We gotta stop meeting like
this, before she disappears using an elevator. This is the first
time you meet Mona in the game.

=================================================
A Criminal Mastermind
=================================================

Captain Vladbat Boy
--------------------
In Vladimir's office, a huge drawing of Captain Baseballbat Boy
can be found on his wall. This is most likely a plan that Vladimir
has set up, and later uses on Vinnie Gognitti.

Vladimir, Friend of the Blind
-------------------------------
In his office, Vladimir has a diploma from Brooklyn School of the
Blind. Vladimir has most likely donated money to them.

Mike the Cowboy
-----------------
If you manage to help Mike survive the whole level, he will appear
later in the game, in Part 3, Chapter 2. He will taunt Max using
the big speakers. You will be able to kill him at the end of this
level.

Ragnarock's Death
-------------------
In the room where you're being shot at by lots of mobs hiding
above you, more accurately described at the final room, there is a
door on the left that leads you to lots of stuff being used in the
old Ragnarock.

=================================================
The Depths of My Brain
=================================================

Max Midas, the Murderer
------------------------
In the sequence where Max is being 'arrested' by the NYPD, there
is a huge sign displaying Max, and the words
'Everyone I touch Dies', as well as the letters 'SADIM'. SADIM is
MIDAS backwards. King Midas should be well known for most of you.

My Television, it freezes!
-------------------------
Try turning off your television. It will freeze, and Max will say
'That's odd'.

Max's Stuff
-------------
You can find Max's old wedding ring, pictures of his family, of
Alex Balder, and a 'Late Goodbye' CD in Max's room. The pictures
of Max bear the face of Timothy Gibbs, super-imposed onto the old
pictures starring Sam Lake.

=================================================
No 'Us' in This
=================================================

Call the Police
----------------
You can call Winterson from your apartment. If you don't call her,
you can do so using a phone later in the level. You'd better tell
her what has happened!

I Spy on Myself
----------------
In the sniper's room, there is a scope. Watch it to see two
cleaners being unlucky and setting Max's apartment on fire.

I'm Familiar with .....That Stuff
---------------------------------
Listen to the taping device in the Sniper's room. You can hear Max
talking to Winterson, Bravura, and then you can hear him talking
to a girl on a sex-line. Max was lonely, I guess.

Portable Goodbye
-----------------
The man cleaning up graffiti in the basement is singing, and
listening to 'A Late Goodbye'.

It's a me, Mario
-----------------
In the room where a dead woman is 'watching' Address Unknown,
there is a open Window nearby. This is on the 7th floor, and you
need to go there to complete the level. Anyway, jump out on the
ledge and go a little to the left. There is a 'M' sign on the
wall. Press the use button three times while looking at it. When
you get to a gap, flames will appear. The best easter egg in the
game.

=================================================
A Sign of Her Passage
=================================================

The Athlete Max
-----------------
Remember the final area where you jump out of a burning room?
Good. Well, jump out of the room and onto the ledge. Go to the far
side of the area, and up the stairway. Up here, there is a people
that is preventing you from using the ledge to continue walking
on. If you jump around this pipe, then jump over a gap, and
finally Shootdodge over the last gap, you will find Molotov
Cocktails, painkillers, Sniper ammo and so on.

=================================================
A Linear Sequence of Scares
=================================================

The Flesh of Fallen Angels
--------------------------
Once on the main 'road', a paper doll will be lying to your right,
near the text 'The Flesh of Fallen Angels'. This is a line of
words that Jack Lupino used in Max Payne 1.

Red Hair
---------
After going up with the second cage, you can see some words on the
wall behind the giant needle. The text says 'She had dyed her hair
red'. This is also a quote from the first game in the series.

Two Sisters, One Dead
----------------------
After coming through the window of Mona's room, you can see a
photograph of Mona and her sister Lisa.

Remedy Likes Modifications
---------------------------
To the left on Mona's weights, there is a poster featuring the
movie 'The Dragon'. The actor is named Kenneth Yeung, and is the
creator of the Kung Fu mod that was once very popular. This mod is
used with Max Payne 1.

I Sing in the Shower
---------------------
Wait outside the bathroom while Mona is showering to hear her
sing a part of 'Late Goodbye'.

=================================================
The Million Dollar Question
=================================================

Stay Away From My Cameras
--------------------------
If you shoot at one of the cameras in the level, Mona will tell
you to stop.

Oh, Yeah, Mmm.....
-------------------
Once you've gotten out of the elevator at the start, go left and
try opening the closest door. You will hear a girl, most likely a
hooker, having sex with someone.

A Late Cleaner
---------------
A cleaner will be playing 'A Late Goodbye' on the piano in this
level. You can play the original Max Payne theme on this piano as
well.

Dedicated to Miika
------------------
After having dropped all the way down the ledges and watching a man getting
blow out of a window, shoot the cleaner that is inside the window, but do not
enter through it. Instead, keep going and lean against the wall, go around the
corner and enter the room here. This is a shrine dedicated to Miika Forssell,
a Max Payne fan that died during Max Payne 2's production.

We Like GTA
------------
Well, I don't but you can see an Easter Egg dedicated to GTA by killing
Kaufman and his subordinates, and then backtracking to the room that you
entered using the window. Turn on the TV to see the cut-scene featuring GTA
graphics.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After answering to Winterson's call, an officer will tell you that Winterson
has a blind kid. Close to Winterson's desk you can also find a small poster
from 'Brooklyn School of the Blind'.

In one picture, you can see half of her left breast uncovered, and in another
picture, you can see through her dress.

=================================================
In The Middle of Something
=================================================

Hope He's Still Here
---------------------
After you've cleaned the area outside that has a small building with some
explosives close to it, you can backtrack to the parking lot by going into the
door on your left, instead of the one in front of you. You will hear some bad
guys that think you're still in the building. One of them hopes that you are.

=================================================
Blowing Up
=================================================

Great Balls on Fire
-------------------
Close to the end of the level, after you've dropped down two floors using some

=================================================
Prologue
=================================================

Insane

and then buried them in the backyard. Remember the man at the start of the
prologue in Part 2 of the game? I'm sure you do. Draw similarities.

Schizophrenic
--------------
This Max says 'I've been switched, I didn't use to look like this'. This is a
reference to the fact that i this game, Max is acted by Timothy Gibbs rather
than Sam Lake.

Soft Porn

At the end of the cells, Mona is showering. Do a Shootdodge to see how she
looks like from behind, without clothes.

kill him. If he died when you last met, he won't be there.

=================================================

 - The 'American's Avenger' commercial's target audience, is men that are
seeking revenge for their dead families.

 - Vladimir has his own commercial where he talks about his new restaurant.

 - Vladimir has received a diploma for helping out The Brooklyn School For
The Blind. This school also has its own commercial.

 - "We gotta stop meeting like this" is a quote Mona says in both Max Payne
games. In both situations, she disappears using an elevator.

 - The Deliverator is the name of the car that Max and Vinnie Gognitti escape
in at the end of a level. It is also the name of a rocket car found
   in Remedy's game "Death Rally".

 - Jim Bravura survived the assault early in the game. This is revealed by
a television report that can be seen at the final level in Woden's office.

 - Both Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2 start and end with the death of a woman.
Max Payne 1 starts with the death of Michelle Payne, and ends with the
death of Nicole Horne. Max Payne 2 starts with the death of Annie Finn
being killed by the cleaners, and ends with the death of Mona Sax. However,
Mona survives if you complete the game on the "Dead on Arrival" setting.

 - Instead of containing references to Norse Mythology like Max Payne 1 did,
Max Payne 2 refers a lot to Paradise Lost by John Milton.

 - The Painkillers are really named "Interfectum", as seen in Part 1,
   Prologue.

 - The hospital in the game is named Memorial hospital.

 - Try comparing Max Payne as a character with Marvel's "The Punisher". Watch
the movie released in 2004, and you'll find many similarities.

 - Timothy Gibbs usually play roles in soap operas.

 - Four of the founding members of developer Remedy, were originally members
of the demoscene group named Future Crew. However, Remedy has nothing to do
   with the now defunct group.

now closed. Suddenly one day, all employees were stopped by security guards
when they tried to enter their offices.

 - The ending song being played when you've completed the game, is played by
the Finnish band "Poets of the Fall". The band's popularity skyrocketed
after Max Payne 2 was released. Some time later, the band released a
single that stayed for a very long time at the Finnish top 10 singles list.

 - Because Remedy could allow themselves to spend more money on Max Payne 2,
they hired professional actors to replace the characters seen in the
graphical novels in the game. Timothy Gibbs replaced writer Sam Lake as Max
   Payne himself.

 - Rockstar games has registered the URL www.addressunknown.tv on the
internet. This URL can be seen on the promotional posters found in the
Address Unknown Theme Park in the game. As of August 2006, the URL is still

and we keep driving into the night
it's a late goodbye, such a late goodbye
and we keep driving into the night
it's a late goodbye

your breath hot upon my cheeck, and we crossed, that line
you made me strong when I was feeling weak, and we crossed, that one time
screaming stop signs, staring wild eyes, keep on flashing, flashing by

and we keep driving into the night
it's a late goodbye, such a late goodbye
and we keep driving into the night
it's a late goodbye

The devil grins
